Scott Embry’s Wednesday Geraldton Preview Posted on March 26, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LIBERTY DAME has been a bit of a tease over the last 2 seasons since arriving in Geraldton. She’s had 8 starts at the GTC and finished runner-up on give occasions, most recently to Identifier and Gold Vancouver – two horses who look like they’ll win better races than just a maiden/C1/C2 in the country. Drawn a gate, thin maiden and really looks to get her chance. DISCUSS has finished third at both her races so far and she’s been attacking the line well. Just can’t buy a barrier! WOOD CUTTER makes his debut off the back of solid Lark Hill trials and has barrier 1 to his advantage. VALAGO trialled well enough recently behind Copping Points. Numbers: 6 – 11 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – LIBERTY DAME WIN RACE 2 I’M ON is racing really well for Ron Cowl Junior and Joseph See. Big maiden winner (last to first) five starts back and then if you take away the one poor performance behind Wojtek four back then she’s been solid in every start since. $2.20 – $7.50 in a remarkable drift and win scenario at Mingenew and then made a tonne of late ground in an on speed dominated race behind Well Played in a 58+ last start. JURUENA GOLD has been a hard horse to catch throughout his career but since joining Gordon Spowart has raced with a bit more consistency. Distance rise to his liking. MOONIEMIA is trying hard and can use the gate. PURE CHINO was impressive breaking her maiden at Geraldton. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – I’M ON EACHWAY RACE 3 IDENTIFIER trialled like she would be winning at her Midwest Debut and that’s exactly what unfolded as she was able to put 1L on Liberty Dame and extend away for a soft win late over 1200m. Given everything she produced for previous trainer Darren McAuliffe you’d suggest that 1400m will be even more to her liking and from the barrier Troy Turner can have her poised and ready to strike. DAIYAMONDO is in a rich vein of form and looms as a big and legitimate danger. Her last two have been enormous and after the claim she’s dropping weight into a more suitable assignment. BAYHARA went close to knocking off subsequent 3 year old 0MWLY winner Bondi’s Future last start. DENZOE can roll forward to lead. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – IDENTIFIER WIN RACE 4 WELL PLAYED was going from a C2 1200 to a 58+ 1600 in one step last start and came through an impressive winner. Not only was it a step up in grade and up in distance but they changed up her racing pattern and she was able to lead at a strong tempo and prove too gritty for the chasing brigade who all had their chance. Same grade, same weight and they way she’s going she should go close to making it the same result! BE SEATED and HAMMARMILL drops out of 70+ race and most recently the Batavia Sprint. They’re both good enough to be winning this on their day and both should get the runs they need from their respective barriers. MIFF MUFFERED MOOF was electric winning her C1 two back before they had a throw at the stumps in the Batavia. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – WELL PLAYED WIN RACE 5 SAFE HUSTLE (like so many others) has been a wonderful tried horse acquisition for Julia Martin’s highly consistent operation. Was beaten a head in a 70+ two starts back when racing well outside the handicap and then backed it up last start with an honest performance at 58+ level behind Tycoon Demon. Drops back into a C2 and while he’s drawn wide with weight he looks one of the main players. FIRST CONTACT has her first start for Malcolm Mackenzie and the fact he’s engaged Tash Faithfull grabs the attention. JOHNNY ANGEL wasn’t too bad fresh. HOW PRETTY got the job done in a weak maiden at Albany first-up. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – SAFE HUSTLE WIN RACE 6 SORAIS gets 1.5kg and an extra 100m on TYCOON DEMON to try and turn the tables from their last start encounter. Watching the reply of his first-up run and his second-up run it’s easy to sell yourself that he’s more than capable if he gets a decent track into the race from his inside gate. Has come back in career best form. TYCOON DEMON had his debut this season as a 5 year old and has had 7 starts for 3 wins and 3 minors. Incredible campaign and if he can overcome the wide draw he’s every chance of adding to that impressive early CV. SPIRIT MAN came home in a near identical L600 to Sorais last start in the Tycoon Demon race. ASK AN ANGEL is a more than capable mare on her day. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SORAIS WIN RACE 7 UNI QUEEN was hammered in betting last start and almost lead them a merry dance over 1900m. She now steps out to the staying trip and the last time she raced at this distance she won the Walkaway Cup by over 3L in a dominant performance. She could well emerge as one of the better local hopes in the 2024 Geraldton Cup and from the draw she can lead or sit. Versatile and in form. LUKE’S PIERRO got the better of her last start but concedes her 1.5kg here. He’s a real one paced stayer who needs them to turn the speed on. WHAT A PRINCE has gone 1600m to 1200m to 2125m. He’s a marvel and question Barry Newnham at your peril. Horse is good. Very good. HONORFIC rarely runs a bad race. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – UNI QUEEN WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,4 2,3,5,6,8,10 2,3,6 1,4,5 Market Market
