Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on September 6, 2022September 6, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 UNIVERSAL FLAIR was a 7L winner on a Heavy10 at Belmont two starts ago and then was more than respectable behind Baby Paris (beating home Saloon Bar) when racing on a Soft5. With all the rain around in Perth over the last 48 hours and the added bonus of Holly Watson’s 2kg claim this filly gets a great chance to jump, run and kick into the corner. Should be hard to run down. AZENA was the eye catching run in the same race and Tash Faithful returns to the saddle. Will concede Universal Flair a head start but hard to not be impressed with the two runs to date. BALLAYAGE BABE trialled super for her return. MAJOR MAX got no luck on debut when well regarded. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – UNIVERSAL FLAIR WIN RACE 2 CITY ANGEL found the front at Northam on debut and was run down late by Finest Clobber. Was a meeting where the vast majority of winners were down the outside and she should only take benefit fitness wise and from the racing experience. Should bounce to the top again here and take running down. AIDAN’S CHOICE likely lobs one out and one back naturally from the gate and trialled nicely for his return to racing. LAQUETTA’S GIFT was a really nice trial behind talented 3 year old Kosta’s Crown. HERE’S DREAMING ran well in a hot race behind Protégé first-up but the barrier hurts (again). Numbers: 4 – 2 – 9 – 3 Suggested Bet – CITY ANGEL WIN RACE 3 LUCKY LANDING should get a lovely run in a 1000 scamper that has a lot of speed. With Smiling Girl, Fiorucci Mama, Oceanic Rider and Foxy Son likely to jostle for early positions Lucky Landing should be able to park up in behind them and with the cutaway on offer he should get every chance. Goes round eachway and trialled nicely splitting Real Grace and Saintorio. FIORUCCI MAMA had nothing go her way first-up. Love the fact a senior rider goes back on here. OCEANIC RIDER comes back to 1000m for the first time in his life. Interesting to see whether it suits him or not. FINEST CLOBBER won well first-up and we’ll get a sighter into the strength of the form through City Angel in R2. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – LUCKY LANDING EACHWAY RACE 4 CHEERFUL MOMENT should be able to dictate terms to them from the top. Returned to WA at what looked an unsuitable 1200m and ran well when a narrow second to Enticing. The step to 1400m suits and the fact that there’s no real pressure (either Johnny Angel or Private Scene likely to breeze) make him attractive. Expecting Holly Watson to get them rolling form the 800. KEEPER SWEET ran well first-up and now drops nicely back into a C3. Hard to fault her last 6 months. JOHNNY ANGEL is a model of consistency but he does lack a killer blow. FIND YOUR MAN comes back again in trip and is on the quick back-up. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – CHEERFUL MOMENT WIN Same Race Multi – Cheerful Moment (Win) + Keeper Sweet (Top 3) RACE 5 COLD SHIZZLE drops back into a C3 for the first time since he won in this grade at Ascot back in December 2021. Since then he has competed in higher grade, was a 60+ Graduation winner four starts ago beating Multinational (now a 72+ winner) and should land into a prominent position in running. Only query is whether he truly handles the wet surfaces. UNI QUEEN was a really quiet trial under Shaun O’Donnell and should be able to remain within striking distance from the ideal draw. SHE’S GREYSFUL may have needed the run fresh and is better suited out to 1200m. HENCHARD is a query at 1200. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – COLD SHIZZLE WIN RACE 6 RUBY NOIR had nothing go right first-up. She was shunted out three deep from the 800 and then things only got tougher for her from there. She ended up marching into the race before the corner four and five deep and then was entitled to fade out of the race. Thought she held her own last 100m and second-up with a better barrier and the services of an in form Paul Harvey she can go close at an eachway price. FRIAR THE GUN trialled super on a heavy and then ran really well first-up behind Cywer and Brighid. ROMMEL’S JEUNEY will always give a kick off a moderate tempo. HART TRADER broke maiden status in style. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – RUBY NOIR EACHWAY RACE 7 INDOMINUS was a tough watch first-up when travelling boldly behind a wall of horses until late in the race. Got out late and flashed home behind No Change finishing marginally in front of main rival She’s A Sweet Deel. Depending on scratchings could come into gate 5 and should get a nice run midfield with cover. Looks to have come back well. SHE’S A SWEET DEEL is racing like she will need at least 1700m. Takes a lot of winding up at the minute. HE’S A LUCKY LAD was run off his legs first-up. Senior on and a gear change. RUN D’AFFAIRE RUN may really get running with the apprentice on. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – INDOMINUS EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3 1,2,4,5,7 3,4,5,6,8 1,2,3,6,7,8 Market Market
