Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on September 6, 2022September 7, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MISS VASARI has her first start for Michael Lane. Last start in a C5 at Northam she finished a long way back in a big line-up when 5L off Let’s Galahvant (subsequent winner) and Annihilator (subsequent winner). Think she’s more of a sprinting type mare so coming back to 1100m a plus and in the small field she might pack too much firepower late. Nice race for her. MANTELLI hasn’t seen a race of this nature for a long while. Jury out on just how much he really wants to win but this is a great chance for him. PONYO backs up from last Saturday and after the claim can bounce and run. FAMOUS JURNEY has displayed some versatility recently. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – MISS VASARI WIN RACE 2 DR SHULTZ is a 27 start maiden but this is one of his better opportunities since arriving in WA. Fifth behind Beneath The Covers, Mr Megsey and Makin Prophets and then fourth fifth behind Fly Away Home, George Gently and Boy Blue (beating home Mr Megsey and Queen’s Gift). Weak maiden this. MR HOLLYWOOD was far better last start but the race was also decimated late by the scratchings of the favourite and second favourite at the barriers. BLACK FOR CASH was beaten a margin last start but in a hot form race behind Protégé. MISS RONA went close last start. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – DR SHULTZ WIN RACE 3 SALOON BAR was given a chance by most punters of stretching the neck of sharp filly Baby Paris on debut. The race didn’t map well for him, the race didn’t pan out well for him and yet he still finished off well enough to suggest that with a set of shades and some race experience that he’ll take beating. Early scratching from Wednesday to save for this. SHOOTING KONTIKI continues to knock on the door. Finished third behind Mia Gusto and Uncle Gerard, third behind Azena and Nunes, second behind Protégé. Getting closer and closer. HOOHAH HAVANA trialled well and hit the line well on debut. Keep following. SO RAPT is going well. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – SALOON BAR WIN Same Race Multi – Saloon Bar (Top 2) + Shooting Kontiki (Top 3) + Hoohah Havana (Top 4) RACE 4 MANHATTAN STRIP made his debut in a 3 year old 0MWLY behind Just Go, Rupert’s Empire and Aiyza when finishing off hard into fourth after being a bit slow away. Carried 57.5kg against those horses in a midweeker and now drops down to 55.5kg into a weaker race. CJP sticks and while he’s drawn awkwardly he will be winding up down the centre late. IMAGE OF PRO is yet to really find a race where he can roll to the top and control. This might be it. ARAMAT (like all of Jon Jachmann’s) is going super at Northam recently. Getting close to breaking through. RIG A DIG may still be looking for further. Numbers: 10 – 3 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – MANHATTAN STRIP WIN RACE 5 BIGSPIDER trialled super leading into his debut and then absolutely nothing went right. Has trialled super for his return to racing and from the favourable gate he should run a big race. Love the way he travels and thinking he’ll go close first-up. VITALIZE clearly has ability. Her first-up second to Mega Reward (now a C3 winner) was excellent. JONO returned to the grass and ran a ripper behind Protégé and Shooting Kontiki. Expecting that maiden form reference to hold up throughout WA (Multinova Man already a winner). SALLY CAN WAIT was held up at a crucial stage last start. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – BIGSPIDER WIN RACE 6 LEGACY OF TARA did it tough on debut and was too powerful for rivals late. Came through a trial behind Leniency and Trespassing and Sue Olive elects to start her in a C1 rather than head to a 3 year old 0MWLY midweek. Gives the indication she’ll get over ground and yet has tactical speed to hold a position. Like the look of her. PAIGEY’S TURN resumed strongly behind Cywer and Brighid. Get a form reference Wednesday through Friar The Gun. RISKY LYRICS was great first-up when finishing alongside Arcadia Grace and Currimundi. UNIVERSAL VAIN wasn’t a bad run first-up without any luck. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – LEGACY OF TARA WIN RACE 7 ZERO CONSEQUENCE beat Positive Impact four starts ago, finished third to Mr Mt Walker and Catalpa three starts ago (against the pattern), spun the wheels on a Heavy track two starts ago and then finished fifth in a race dominated from the front by Noble Born. Looks like he’ll stay and this race maps out perfectly for him. Should go close. GIN ‘N’ SWANIC was a big winner on a Heavy track at his most recent giving Mack Hall his first winner as a trainer. If he reproduces, he goes close. HIS EMINENCE has been building towards another win and the entire Colin Webster yard are flying. CENSURE is a hard mare to catch but she’s capable. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – ZERO CONSEQUENCE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,3,6,10 1,5,6 1,4,5,7,8,9 2,3,4 Market Market
