Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview

Race 1

THE ROCKET deserves favouritism off his fast finishing second to impressive type Delzee at Northam. Second-up he gets out to a more suitable 1300m, he gains the services of in form senior Chris Parnham and he maps to park in the three deep moving line. Realistically hasn’t had a lot of luck so far his in career with a few handy minors that stand out (third to Rock The Market & Poblano, third to Pure Silver and Naughty Lord). Time to stand up. ALL THE STARS stepped out on debut and led at Pinjarra over 1200m and was only run down late in the race by Unwanted News. Should improve off that performance, should safely get across to at worst park outside the leader and from there should run another honest eachway race. NEWHAVEN PRINCE ran back to back second placings from the breeze in fast run races last prep. WINTER BLOOM ran a cheeky on debut at 200-1.

RACE 2 

TWO UP BOOM ran really well first-up in a high rating 3 year old 0MWLY behind Refemme No Angel and dual subsequent winner Flash Dancer and was accordingly plunged in a maiden second-up when the blinkers went on. Stepped slow, laid inwards against Lucy Fiore as she tried to angle outwards for clear galloping room and still was beaten just under a length. Back out in trip, Pike on, drawn to get all the favours, we go again. ABOUT TURN ran second to Natures Reckoning in a 3 year old 0MWLY first-up last campaign and then finished within 1L of Sky Poet second-up. Jefferson Tsang’s claim can allow them to slide forward and put him into the race. STRUT YOUR STUFF had nothing go right for him first-up behind Gentle Touch, Da Hinchi Belle and Rifleman. Late scratching at Pinjarra and now may sneak right under the radar. SWEET ISSY steadily improved at each run last prep and now finds a new home.

Race 3

POBLANO was caught wide early before being sent forward by Pike to find a position. It’s under-rated just how hard that can be for horses to make a ‘secondary’ run in the home straight when asked to extend and you can see in Pike’s body language that he tries to nurse her for as long as possible in the home straight. Was still beaten under 1L and now with blinkers on for the first time she’ll be out to make amends. DESERT ORA won four on the bounce before heading into a 3 year old Saturday when far from disgraced behind Tidwell, Southern Firetail and Western Miss. Swap the barriers, swap the tip. ARMINO actually wasn’t horrible last start. Not too much of a dissimilar run to Yes I Know who bolted in Saturday. LATE ARRIVAL can come out running in an attempt to find the breeze if they wanted too.

Race 4

BUNDABERG has had throat surgery since the Magic Millions. He’s shown X-Factor from time to time, he races on speed and he tried hard to match motors with a handy enough type at Lark Hill trials in Bosisto where they ran time and cleared out from the chasing brigade. DON’T WINK has some wonderful race form to her name: fourth in a Belgravia Stakes behind King Of Light, Snitzalatte and Mardusa, second to subsequent Saturday winning mare Girls Day Out, 3.5L off Twisted Steel and Hubbles Dragon in a Magic Millions. All reads up super, but her trials have only been fair? BRICINI caused a huge boilover to break maiden status in a 5 horse C1 at 70-1. Was it a flash in the pan or was it the run of a mare who is starting to figure it all out? She’ll get a similar run here parked off the back of a spirited tempo. SNIP OF ROMANCE continues to run big races on speed.

Race 5

GLOBAL TRIP nearly pinched a 1600m C1 two back behind Forgotten Son and then stepped into an 1800 for the first time in his life. He was free wheeling into the home corner but the gauge read empty over the concluding stages and he was swamped. Back in trip, luxurious 1.5kg claim for Holly Nottle and should stroll his way to the top. In front for a long way from there. ROSIE CAN RUN is 60+ and 3x C3 placed. She put the writing on the wall first-up and should be hard to hold out here. HELLO VENETA ran well fresh at 1200m and then was blocked for clear running the entire length of the straight second-up. Has retuned well and the stable is unstoppable. PHAT CHAPS is looking for ground. If only there was a 1600m maiden on Thursday at Northam….

Race 6

SISTER MARY is just a little ripper. Like so many of Paul Jordan’s they have long searching preparations as 2 and 3 year olds and they just seem to get tougher and tougher. After breaking her maiden at 2200m she finished 4L off them in a 54+ and 7.5L off them in a Listed 3 year old event. To most that’s end of prep, but Paul dropped her back in grade, back in distance and she’s back in the winner’s circle. WILD THINGS ran third in an identical version of this race a fortnight ago and she’ll be afforded every chance from a lovely alley. ILGIRO DELMONDO hasn’t fired a shot yet this prep but this is the weakest race she has seen. Expect she’ll find supporters in betting. LUKA MAGIC looks like he’d run another lap. He’ll keep whacking away.

Race 7

SOLO VEGA was huge at her return to racing. She missed the kick, found herself last and came charging down the centre of the track at Pinjarra to miss by a head. Boy Hill threw her into a Breeders Classic, a Challenge Stakes and a Natasha Stakes when last in work, so clearly there’s an opinion of her and if she can reproduce that run, she’ll go very close here at an eachway price. JUST WALTER JOHN is on the 7-day spin, they again swap blinkers for visors and he’ll likely lead uncontested. Just can’t quite find the right set up for him at the moment, but he’s going well. CHOUX SHOE hasn’t had much go her way since the dynamic fresh win.  PURE OBSESSION bounced back to a level of form last start and sneaks back in grade.

Race 8

DELZEE is a nice horse in the making. He led and won his 930m Lark Hill barrier trial but looked very green and raw. On debut he couldn’t reel in speedy subsequent Saturday winner Dawn Dancer and then second-up he was still green and wayward in the straight but he bolted in by 1.5L. Should the runner-up (The Rocket) win the opener the form will only look stronger and hopefully a rail to follow will only see him continue to improve. ACT NON VERBA is a big watch at his WA debut. He is BM78 (~66+) placed and has raced in a Group 2 and a Group 3 in Victoria. Respect. CATCH CARTER fought on for a long time behind Gods Gate and Poblano in a C5 last time out. HEZ GOT THE SAFE drops back into a C3. 7 of his last 9 have been in higher grade and he had genuine excuses first-up in the In Confidence race.
