Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on January 2, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 THEHORSEMAN has contested back to back C3 events since breaking his maiden status at Bunbury three starts back. He finished in between a pair of subsequent winners two starts back in Leading Taddy and Nero King and then last start was forced to cover ground in a race dominated from the front. Back to a C1 and nice use of the Luke Campbell 2kg claim. YALLINGUP GIRL was well supported at her return to racing and ran a solid second behind Pro Latte. She’s drawn barrier 7 of 7 but does have versatility. HOBA WEST lead them up last week but couldn’t sprint with Fashion Stakes in the home straight. Racing well. STREET MASCHINO an improver if leading. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – THEHORSEMAN WIN RACE 2 LACIE ACE trialled nicely at Belmont Park and then was strong in defeat at Ascot first-up when covering plenty of ground. While luckless on Saturday it’s worth remembering that Siberian Siren was $4.80 into $3.60 in betting and so it’s to be expected that punters will trust and follow that form through. Much better drawn and looks one of many chances in an even contest. TAWKIN JIBERISH won impressively on debut down the 1000m straight and looks sharp. Very few win drawn barrier 1 down the straight. BONNY ROCK went well behind Leading Taddy last start and roll forward to find a position close handy. PRINCESS IN RED trialled really well and was scratched from Monday to save for this. Numbers: 9 – 5 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – LACIE ACE WIN RACE 3 MANAVENDRA was ridden rearwards two starts ago and attacked the line in a 66+ behind Yonga Lass, Count The Sessions, Demolish and San Fabrizio, beating home stable mate Manhattan Strip in the process. That has turned into genuine Saturday form and with a senior rider going on and the chance to be ridden quiet again from a wide draw thinking he can improve sharply. Not willing to give up on him after one moderate performance. LA DETTE gets out to 1650m and looks the testing material. Loomed large last start but couldn’t quite get past the kicking leader. ROCK THIS COUNTRY has a woeful Belmont record (0 from 12) but a lot of those are on wet tracks. CHANTEL was solid last start. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – MANAVENDRA WIN RACE 4 ELITE FASHIONS was huge last start in the strongest and key form reference race that also contained Kings Call and Bill Selects. She was forced to cover ground in a maiden where they went 6L faster than average overall and was still there fighting on with 200m to go. We’ve already seen Own The Queen win out of that event and expecting that we’ll see another winner here. Drawn to get a much better run in transit this time around. KINGS CALL found the line well late in that same race. Just wondering whether he’s looking for further? BILL SELECTS is still a maiden after 18 attempts but she’s consistently running well. MYTHICAL DREAM trialled nicely for his debut, especially over 1300m. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – ELITE FASHIONS WIN RACE 5 FELLAFROMDOWNUNDER gives the impression that he’ll appreciate extra ground. Gobbled them up in the final stride over 1690m to break his maiden at Bunbury and then was doing his best work late behind Speak To Me (since second on a Saturday) and subsequent winner Angel’s My Name. Weak race and gets his chance to win another. BELLA EVE never got clear at any stage last start. Prior to that she finished only 1L behind Garman and meets him 4.5kg better at the weights. Keep safe. GARMAN and DEMONSTRATION went head to head last start and there wasn’t much between them in the finish. 2000m maiden wins are always questionable but at least Fioreyes has won out of that race. Numbers: 2 – 10 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – FELLAFROMDOWNUNDER WIN RACE 6 EL PATRON has contested higher graded races at 12 of his 16 career outings. Ultimately he’s only won once in 16 starts so we’re not getting unnecessarily excited but this is one of the more winnable races he’s seen. Coupled with a nice trial, a resurgence in Simon Miller fresh winners (Comic Hero & Givemeonereason both winning first-up last week), a kind map and the booking of Chris Parnham you’d expect he’ll be popular in betting. Almost a case of now or never for him. VILLAGE GIRL was only beaten 2.5L by Harmika and Stormy Tawny last start. She’s well placed and consistently there abouts. SUPPORTIVE went well last week behind Dennis Choux. SNAZZLER comes on quickly second-up. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – EL PATRON WIN RACE 7 BIGDAYONIT makes his own luck out in front and gets rivals uncomfortable and chasing from a fair way out. By race 7 you’ll have a good idea of how the Belmont Park surface is playing and if the leaders are sneaking away on the corner then expect he’ll be meeting with plenty of late betting support. First-up he finished second to the highly promising Esprit Garcon and should only improve into the preparation. SUCCESS PLAY can stalk him from the barrier and keep him within striking distance throughout. Never far from the winner. THOROGOOD is bursting to win a race. Just can’t map him. STAADEN has had an interrupted career but he’s got great ability. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – BIGDAYONIT WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 3,7,8,9 2,3,10 1,2,4,5,6 5,6,7 Market Market
