Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on September 5, 2023September 5, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HAPPY AS LARRY has found his feet and is starting to fulfil the promise he showed early as a 2 year old. Won a 1400m maiden at Belmont leading throughout to win by almost 3L two starts ago and then was far from disgraced behind On Patrol in a 3 year old Saturday 1400 where he simply went too quick for his own good (overall time 6.5L faster than average). Back to midweek company he looks hard to beat. BONDI PLUNGE is still a maiden filly but she gets a 1kg weight swing on Happy As Larry for a 1L defeat last start. Shades go on for the first time. CHOIXWAY (Shuey somehow?) continues to race well. He’ll keep coming. RUSSIAN TO THE BAR ran well on debut. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – HAPPY AS LARRY WIN RACE 2 IDENTIFIER was a really nice trial down the back straight at Lark Hill and the punters didn’t forget to back her at her return to racing ($15 into $6.50). Ran really well in a high-speed maiden behind Hemlock Stone and Five Down when working home nicely into third. This looks a weaker maiden than first-up and she should be going close to breaking through here. THE MIGHTY BUTCH is at start number 14 but he gets through the wet tracks well and he’s run into some handy maiden fields in recent months (Yallingup Girl/Scenery, Lord Vampi/Bring The Bling/Royal Splendour). SCHNOOTS is racing competitively and gets a soft run from the draw. GOD’S GARDEN can be forgiven for one moderate performance. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – IDENTIFIER WIN RACE 3 HEMLOCK STONE sat three deep on debut in a race which has turned into a winner producer (Lord Vampi, Bring The Bling, Royal Splendour and obviously Hemlock Stone himself). Really hit the line full of running over 1400m and was only increasing the margin on the post and through the line. Hopefully Identifier franks that form in Race 2 and out in trip he looks like he’ll only get better. ENCHANTING SOUND drops in grade from a Westspeed Platinum into a C1 and the horse who finished second in the Lucky’s Way race came out and won at Belmont on Saturday (Gift Of The Heart). OCEAN QUEEN has run two honest races since returning and has the cutaway available. DUN WITH THE BLUES has ability but a tricky draw. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – HEMLOCK STONE WIN RACE 4 KING’S FLIRT and CITY ANGEL should land one / two in running and from there they can control this race between them on speed. KING’S FLIRT was only gobbled up late over 1200m and provided she steps cleanly can either lead or box seat with the cutaway in play. Lightly raced mare with some upside. CITY ANGEL burnt across from the outside at her return and was only worn down late by Estimator. Madi Derrick loves putting the accelerator down = right booking. HEAR MY PRAYER was a great trial splitting Paddy’s Flyin’ and Cut The Talk, however, it was a month ago. AROOCHACHA looks destined to do it tough. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – CITY ANGEL EACHWAY RACE 5 BREAD TO FLIRT looks your ideal mid-week, wet track, cutaway horse. She won this track/grade four starts ago on a Soft7 beating subsequent Saturday winner Becalotti and since then she’s been competitive without winning in Saturday company. Comes out of the Costazita race which really should hold up as a form reference. Right place, right time. DIVINE FLIRT looks like getting things cheaply out in front. She’s proven in the wet and she’s a model of consistency. RULING DAME and WANGO AWARD both come through the same race behind highly progressive 4 year old Flash Max. RULING DAME finished off strongly from the back and WANGO AWARD was held up at a crucial stage on straightening. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – BREAD TO FLIRT WIN RACE 6 ENSIGN PULVER is a throw at the stumps in a wide open race with many, many chances and a tonne of different form references. He’s won 3 from 60 so he’s hardly a trustworthy conveyance but he’ll be at least 20-1 on opening and he looks to have returned in really good order. He’s quite versatile but he could slide forward underneath Late Vintage and find himself a position on speed in what looks a messy race that could throw up a result. LONSDALEITE has trialled super on three occasions in WA but is yet to really show up on race day. Gets his chance again from barrier 1. LIEUTENANT DUNBAR was solid behind Cruise To Victory/Dun With The Blues last start. CRUISE TO VICTORY gave Lewis German a flying start in WA and should get every chance from the draw. Numbers: 10 – 6 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – ENSIGN PULVER EACHWAY RACE 7 LORD RANDOLPH backs up off 7 days first-up to second-up which is not normally something to dive into but it was impossible to miss his run last Wednesday when three deep the trip in a fast run race with 60.5kg. Should slide across with Vevinsky and all of Summer Dickson’s are going well. This has to be eachway the field. ELDORADO RIVER tried hard last week when left a sitting duck up the home straight to be run down by Mama Tembu. 7 days later she gets out to 1700m, is drawn to get a near identical run and seems to get through the conditions well. MISS INTENTION is double accepted for Wednesday and Thursday. Hard to hold out in whichever race they start in. MR MT WALKER was annihilated in betting last start and didn’t seem to appreciate the stop/start nature of the race. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet – LORD RANDOLPH EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 6,9 1,3,4,7 FD 2,4,7,9 Market Market
