Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on August 8, 2023August 8, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 KINGS SALUTE is the full brother to All The King’s Men (WA Breeders & Lex Piper Stakes winner) and his recent trial win suggests that he has above average ability. Drawn the outside gate on debut is not an easy task but he has the services of William Pike and how the track will play is a mystery pre-meeting. MOORDITJ BOY can fire straight to the top. He was brave on debut when going for home on straightening. WARRALEA LASS has the cutaway run available and kept coming in her trial. DON’T WAIT FOR LUCK travelled nicely in behind horses at trials. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – KINGS SALUTE WIN RACE 2 HAPPY AS LARRY hits a maiden for the first time in his life as a newly turned 3 year old. Still doing a few things wrong but his 2 year old Saturday and Wednesday form looks as good as any of the older horses recent efforts. Gets the right run from the draw and does have a level of ability. GOD’S GARDEN has worked hard in both runs since resuming. She’s hit the line strongly in both. Just needs a good steer from a really tricky draw. STATE OF FURY worked to the line well enough behind Ancient Guidance on a Saturday last start. Split Almighty Class & Sapphire Street on the line. ILGIRO DELMONDO has put together two sound runs. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 9 – 10 Suggested Bet – HAPPY AS LARRY WIN RACE 3 DESERT NYMPH resumes over 1000m without a trial. She’s a pretty sharp get back sprinter and the rail out 20m with a cutaway should (in theory) suit a mare like her. She can allow the speed to go and then navigate a path through traffic on straightening. She’s only won 1 from 6 but she’s found a lot of bad luck in her short career. Has upside. EMPRESS OF INDIA returned with a narrow second to Rupert’s Empire in a 3 year old 0MWLY. This is a big class drop, but she hasn’t been seen for 6 weeks. That’s the unknown. BELLE’S FANTASY and DEEP POINT both had legitimate excuses in a messy race behind Changing Guard. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 4 – 1 Suggested Bet – DESERT NYMPH WIN RACE 4 FLASH MAX was highly impressive on debut when sitting three and four wide throughout and getting over Hymns Of Eladdair to score. Hymns Of Eladdair got the job done last Thursday in a 3-year-old maiden and franked the form nicely. Rises in grade, rises 2kg in weight and is drawn second from the outside. Not easy to go back to back but he looks progressive. COLLECTIVE similarly was a strong maiden winner last start. The outside was the place to be at Northam but she did let rip with a big turn of acceleration. MAGNIFICENT CARAT can box seat and attack the cutaway zone. ENCHANTING SOUND has been solid in two 3 year old 0MWLY races to start her preparation. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – FLASH MAX WIN RACE 5 GALANCY was too strong for them first-up leading throughout over 1300m in a C1. Never gave up the chase last start when forced to tow the rest of the field up to tear away leader Chad’s Me Dad. Parks up over the speed and is one of many, many chances in a wide open race. CHANGING GUARD was first-up no trial over 1000 and got the job done. This is harder but he’s returned in good order. SABINO is third-up, drawn the cutaway and backing up off 7 days. Keep safe. LORD AUGUSTUS has shades re-attached and ran a solid third behind Galactic Storm and Fluro Neuro two back. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 6 – 10 Suggested Bet – GALANCY EACHWAY RACE 6 COCOON BAY was a nice trial win. There was nothing flash about the time (~6L slower than the Pretty Devine trial same day) but it was more about how she covered the ground and pulled away late. Did dead heat with Vast Art to break her maiden and if she can find a back to follow can go well fresh. PRETTY DEVINE is having her first start in WA. Interestingly all three career wins are when leading but she looked pretty comfortable from off-speed in her trial behind Rockin’ Rupert. Expect her to go well at her first start for Mack Hall. PONYO has a short sprint and needs the right run. 60.5kg an ask for her. DIVINE INANNA rolls along. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – COCOON BAY EACHWAY RACE 7 EMERALD TRADER does everything wrong. He misses the kick, he over-races, and yet he’ll still be very popular (and hard to beat) in this. If Chad’s Me Dad does what she did last start and gets them rolling a fair way from home then that should (hopefully) give him a fighting chance at settling and working his way into the race. Going super. CAVALLO RED got the job done in a 1400m maiden when beating subsequent winner Yallingup Girl and then went close to winning a 3 year old 0MWLY when working home late through traffic into second behind Secret Identity. Races like he’s looking for 1700m. KOLCHINO was a great return to racing. CHAD’S ME DAD gave some serious cheek last start. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – EMERALD TRADER WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,4,5,6,8,9,10 2,3,4,5,6,9,10 1,3,4,5 1,3 Market Market
