Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on August 8, 2023August 8, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 HOT NOVA is undefeated at trials and scratched from Saturday (6 horse field) to save for this. They dodged Ginnivan/Generosity and in hindsight that looks like a really astute move. They also gain the services of William Pike and have a filly who parks herself on top of the speed and looks like a little professional. Think she can make a winning start to her career. FIRE THE GUARD was far from disgraced on debut behind Snippy Which and Esprit Garcon. SIBERIAN SIREN hails from a proven 2/3 year old operation and has trialled well. SPIRITED BAY can come across from a wide gate. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 9 – 10 Suggested Bet – HOT NOVA WIN RACE 2 LORD VAMPI is extremely well placed by Dan & Ben Pearce. On debut over 1300m in a Saturday 2 year old race he faced the breeze and was left a sitting duck for in form winter 2 year old Ancient Guidance. They ran that race 4L faster than average and he did all the work in the breeze. Drops half a kilo into an all age maiden. Looks like one the punters will attack early. HEMLOCK STONE won a recent trial. Rare that William Pike gets off a trail winner from the Grant & Alana Williams stable but with Lord Vampi in the race that’s understandable. BRING THE BLING will pinch a race out in front in the near future. THE MIGHTY BUTCH hasn’t had much luck. Numbers: 9 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – LORD VAMPI WIN RACE 3 RELIABLE QUEEN is no star but she’ll be picking up a maiden soon. Her recent trial was solid over 950m at Lark Hill and from barrier 5 William Pike should give her the gun run. Finished third behind Covert Rose at Belmont over a mile and from the trial may have come back a little sharper. Looks a big day on paper for the Wizard and while this maiden has a bit of depth she should be one of the main hopes. APOGEE has been gelded after three runs in NZ and the trials for Rob Gulberti have been very encouraging. Looks like he’ll kick through to lead. LOOK HERE PUNK was really well found in betting last start and ran a ripper. Stable is flying. FLIRT A LOT has been trialling well for his return. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – RELIABLE QUEEN WIN RACE 4 BORN AND BREAD had nothing go right for her at her return to racing. She was first-up, no trial and missed away, held up at stages in the home straight and in the end was a complete forgive. She has finished second on four occasions behind some handy types and drawn barrier 1 she’ll get every chance. W.Pike rides too – sensing a theme…IDLE TALK has shown ability at trials. Hasn’t quite translated to the races yet but think there’s something there. MY KRYPTONITE ran a ripper fresh behind a handy one in Lieutenant Dunbar. SAFE HUSTLE can fire across from a wide draw. Drops 1.5kg into an all age maiden. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – BORN AND BREAD WIN RACE 5 QUEEN’S GIFT is a long time maiden but her first-up run behind Miss Ava, Indie Ruler and Don’t Trust Judas was strong (considering the run she endured) and now she’s drawn barrier 1 to get every hope. Expecting that to hold up as a form reference and this looks lengths easier. Willing to side up with her at an eachway price. TREASURED QUEEN trialled up well behind Don’t Trust Judas. Pike could have already kicked a couple home by Race 5. VICTORY CHANT lead and kicked on a cold rail last start. Senior rider on second-up. BRAVE CENTURION has shown ability at trials. Like these 3 year olds against the older horses. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 3 – 11 Suggested Bet – QUEEN’S GIFT EACHWAY RACE 6 JIVE KING and that man William Pike looks hard to beat after a grinding effort behind Archer County 3 weeks ago. He’s no star, but he’s a one paced horse who will keep coming. He can slide across from a wide gate and see how many of these truly run out a mile. Last start he beat home impressive subsequent winner Prophet And Power. Big day for Dan & Ben Peace too on paper it seems. ALLEGRO SONATA continues to attack the line. There’s a maiden in her coming up. ZULTANITE has out run her price at all three runs back. WHOS ME DADDY has put in a nice run here and there. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 10 – 2 Suggested Bet – JIVE KING WIN RACE 7 PRINCE I THINK has raced in an Aquanita Stakes, a Belmont Classic, a C3 and now a C1. He’s been racing on top of the speed and he’s been going along well enough to suggest that he’ll be around the mark in this. Only beaten 1.2L by Red Dwarf last Wednesday and he was dropping out of a 66+. PROPHET AND POWER broke his maiden here last Thursday when skipping around at his own leisure. Got away from them at the 600. That seems like his racing style. WICKED COOL is coming up 550m in distance but does have the Starry Heights form. ZANZIBAR is still building into his preparation. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – PRINCE I THINK WIN RACE 8 MILITARY POWER is still learning what racing is all about. Seems to switch on and off in his races and really puts it into neutral when he’s on his own in the home straight. Loved his trial, loved his fresh win and with the use of the Brayden Gaerth claim he can stalk Art Of Sabrage and try to run him down late. 0/5 in the Surveillance colours. 2/2 without them. Brittany 1 – Lochie 0. ART OF SABRAGE has won two races in his career. Both when leading against the fence. Highly doubt he hands up given he seems a different animal in front. WANGO AWARD has her first start in WA. She is a BM64 winner at Packenham and down the straight at Flemington on 4 March finished alongside Wild Belle. That’s good form. TALES OF MANHATTAN gets a soft run. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – MILITARY POWER WIN RACE 9 PROBITY rounds out the day as yet another W.Pike – Dan & Ben Peace combination runner. 9 of his last 10 starts have been in higher grade and he’s the kind of animal who needs to draw low and get a soft run into the race. Four starts ago he won a 66+ 1300 at Belmont Park and the form around Vane Tempest, Top Of The Pops, Sunny Honey, Colossal, Duchess Of Gossip looks outstanding for a race of this nature. FIND YOUR MAN has found his form. If it’s get back, run on down the centre at Northam again then he’ll be very well suited. Flying. WITHOUT REG showed last start he’s not that far off Find Your Man and with 1.5kg in his favour he can turn the tables. COUNT THE SESSIONS is an enigma. Going well but hard to follow. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – PROBITY WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,6 1,2,3 1,2,4 1,2,3 Market Market
