Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on July 11, 2023July 11, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ANCIENT GUIDANCE won impressively this track and grade two starts ago over 1300m. Sat three deep that day and romped in with the handbrake on. Went to a Saturday, sat leader’s back and was far from disgraced when only 2L off Rope Them In, Paris Calling and More Special. Drops back to a mid-week assignment and in a race without any pace at all may well kick through to lead. CHOLLIMA has shown raw ability at trials. Hasn’t had much luck in any of her public appearances yet has looked really sharp. Keep safe. HAPPY AS LARRY comes through the same race as Ancient Guidance. Going well. ZENIQUE raced like he would appreciate 1400m. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – ANCIENT GUIDANCE WIN RACE 2 SCENERY has been really encouraging in his last two runs and he’s now drawn a barrier to get a more economical run in transit. Considering the favourite will likely be deep in the red and has some convictions we’ll look for some value. CAVALLO RED is finding ways to get beat. Fought back hard after looking gone at the 150. Visors for shades, so maybe he’s waiting for them? SECRECY may not have really appreciated the wet track last start. Has tactical speed and a cutaway to use. YALLINGUP QUEEN can take cover and that might be key to her chances. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – SCENERY EACHWAY RACE 3 EMPRESS OF INDIA was resuming for a new stable off a 400m jump out when running into handy sprinter Rupert’s Empire. This race looks very winnable for her and from the draw Holly Watson should land just behind what looks a genuine tempo. Go Go Grommet, Firey Panz, No Whispering and Rocapozzene can all go quick and from barrier 4 there’s options for Empress of India and she should only improve fitness wise second-up. GO GO GROMMET stretches out to 1200m for the first time in his life. The distance is a query and he continues to jump awkwardly. WEAPONIZE can wait for the cutaway run. ENCHANTING SOUND trialled up well enough. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – EMPRESS OF INDIA WIN RACE 4 BRIGHID will sit back and be saved up for one last crack at them. That’s her natural race pattern and there should be a three deep line for her to build into. This looks a tricky little race with a lot of clashing form lines. Always had time for her and she’ll go round eachway. AROOCHACHA and ROCKARIA are both talented 3 year olds but both are straight 1000m winners at Pinjarra. Hard to line them up around the bend, especially from tricky draws. EYESHADOW should land in the right place. She’s going better than numerical form suggest. SYMPHONY IN RED comes back to 1000m. She’ll be strong late. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet – BRIGHID EACHWAY RACE 5 BEAT THE BRO has a woeful Belmont Park record (0 from 17) but he’s also in the form of his life. Two starts ago he beat subsequent Saturday winner Allez Allez and last start he finished off hard in the same race as Pat’s Got Sass over 1300. The way he’s racing he might just be looking for 1700 and from the draw he can enjoy a soft run midfield. Would need to get out to eachway to entertain given his track stats. PAT’S GOT SASS has to run out a strong 1700 but she’s the class runner and is very well placed. MY BOY EDDY should be peaking fourth up. Will need the leaders to stop with his racing pattern. RECALLED was impressive last week at Pinjarra. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – BEAT THE BRO EACHWAY RACE 6 FLASH DUCATI dropped back into a C1 two starts ago for an easy kill and returned to the winners circle. Last start he went back to Saturday racing and was charging to the line behind Outspoken Lad who has since run well at 66+ level. This looks another wonderful opportunity for him from a favourable draw in a race where they’ll roll along behind Surveillance and Heaps Of Moolah. SURVEILLANCE comes through the same race and thought he did a good job to stick on. The overall race time was almost 7L faster than Westspeed average. KIA ORA JEWEL continues to attack the line hard. AMBERGATE ROSE needs to tick the 1700m box. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – FLASH DUCATI WIN RACE 7 BELLE’S FANTASY is up to 1300m and is drawn a gate to enjoy a soft run. There’s not a huge amount of speed and so Austin Galati can have her parked right over the tempo and if she can reproduce her same L600 that saw her finish second behind subsequent winner On The Full she’ll be hard to hold out. ZOOROPA really caught the eye at his return and he’s drawn the cutaway here. MAGNIFICENT CARAT broke his maiden in style and gave the impression he would get further. SPIRIT OF GERRY is improving with racing. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – BELLE’S FANTASY EACHWAY RACE 8 HENRY THE AVIATOR was a nice trial leading into his return to racing and then drew awkwardly in a Saturday 60+ Graduation. Ended up rearwards in a moderately run race and worked to the line strongly. Second-up he drops back into a C3 and after the withdrawal of emergencies could end up coming into barrier 7. Good competitive race this and he’s one of many chances. SUCCESS PLAY is honest and consistent and will settle right over the speed (could even kick through to lead). PENNYS AFIELD gets a drying surface. She’s simply no good in the wet. ALBRIGHT is a lightly raced and well related filly with upside. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – HENRY THE AVIATOR EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,4,5,6 1,2 2,4,5,6,7 1,2,4,6,7,9,10 Market Market
