Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on July 11, 2023July 11, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 INVINCIBLE STRIKE was well commissioned at his return off the back of a quiet trial (in the wrong part of the track). He was no match late for De La Beaute and Magnificent Carat who got the better of him in the concluding stages. Meets De La Beaute here again but is drawn inside of her and should nearly cross down to the fence. Was a much improved Northam rail at the most recent meeting. DE LA BEAUTE continues to run really good races without breaking through. She’s knocking on the door and getting very close. ROMMEO was right place, right time on debut down the outside but still hard to ignore the run. CAPTAIN CROCKET has shown something at trials. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – INVINCIBLE STRIKE WIN RACE 2 ART OF SABRAGE is better than what he showed first-up. Was a good solid barrier trial at Belmont leading into his return when he worked across from a wide gate to park in the breeze but as soon as he got there you could see he was in trouble. Back in grade, drawn to kick through and lead and strikes a very winnable race. Follow up. RENATO showed that the drying surface was exactly what the Doctor ordered last start. He was a sharp improver back on top of the ground. Can go on with it now. MILLIVOY has always been well found in betting and this looks a suitable race for him. Great use of the Mahony claim. BIG CITIES is racing well. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – ART OF SABRAGE WIN RACE 3 CHERRY’S A STAR is a former high price yearling who looks like she’s found a great race in which to break through. Ran a narrow second fresh on a deteriorating soft track and then finished fourth behind Sentimental Belle in a race which was dominated close handy to the speed. Drawn to get every favour. COLLECTIVE trialled nicely and ran well fresh when making great late ground. BOLTCO JACK was scratched from Wednesday to save for this race on Thursday with William Pike to ride. Debut effort was sound in the same race as Collective. GAPSBETWEENTHEEARS rolls along. Numbers: 6 – 9 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – CHERRY’S A STAR WIN RACE 4 OSOPEPPI is clearly a handful. Had one start for Jimmy Grieve when finishing third behind Blue Eyed Girl and Argent Sauvage at 100-1. Battled on strongly on that occasion and now lands at Mitch Pateman’s stable. He’s doing a wonderful job with these new and troublesome horses and that trial form behind Esprit Garcon, Toronado Bull and Cavallo Red should hold up in time. No stars in this either. BIRTHDAY BALLOT has had a fair few cracks at it but this is clearly one of the weakest races she’s seen. Did a fair bit of work last start in a forgive effort. BANKS AVENUE never gave up the chase behind Sentimental Belle. LONESOME DOVE has some ability. Amazingly a half sister to Awesome Rock! Numbers: 10 – 6 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – OSOPEPPI EACHWAY RACE 5 COVENTRY REEF looks hard to hold out over the mile. Has been building towards a win after running back to back minor placings behind Wicked Cool and Black For Cash. Looks like he’ll only get better with both racing and distance. Barrier 10 of 14 not easy to navigate but this race also lacks any real speed. Even luck he goes close. MOSHUKO has shown ability at trials and then hasn’t had much luck on race day. Comes through the same race as Coventry Reef and didn’t see a lot of daylight. ARCHER COUNTY improves at his second WA run. BULLS EYE PERFECT next best. Numbers: 3 – 14 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – COVENTRY REEF WIN RACE 6 SIZZLE ME PATRICK drops out of the premier 3 year old winter feature races back into a C1. Beaten 5.8L Rusty Dreams and Upper Limits in a Belmont Guineas when stepping from 1100 to 1600, beaten 8L Upper Limit and Demolish in an Aquanita Stakes when tramping wide throughout. 2000 back to 1600, Listed company back into a C1. Worth following up. BLACK FOR CASH, GUARD THE GREEK and CHANTEL are all impressive last start maiden winners but they’re all coming up into a tougher race. Looks a relatively even bunch behind Sizzle Me Patrick so in that respect they should measure up and run well. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – SIZZLE ME PATRICK WIN RACE 7 SUPER ROMANI didn’t beat much last start but it was more the manner in which he won. He was on the quick back-up from an Aquanita Stakes (only beaten 3.3L by Upper Limits, Demolish and Santa Brae) on the Saturday into a maiden on the Thursday at Pinjarra and really extended away powerfully from them in the concluding stages when working his way out and around heels. You’d imagine they probably nom for the Belmont Classic but if they run Thursday he should go well. CABLE GUY runs for Austin Galati. Wasn’t disgraced in the Rogan Josh when wildly outside the handicap. This is much more his go. ETOMORP caught the eye late last start. He can stay and will wind-up late. GALARIAN didn’t get much luck last start. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – SUPER ROMANI WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,6,9,10 3,14 3 1,3 Market Market
