Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on June 20, 2023June 20, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WHY ME looks really hard to hold out 7 days after flashing home into a narrow second behind talented colt Red Square over 1000m. Steps out in trip to 1300m, Paul Harvey retains the ride and from barrier 7 of 12 he should be able to land a spot midfield with cover and then present at the right time. Looks to have found a very winnable race and deserves to break through. SONG STORY ran second to Princess Lacillia on debut and is drawn to get the cutaway run again. KRATESIS got chopped out on debut over 1000 and may be better suited drawing wide. PLAYING QUEST has impressed in each trial. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 10 – 7 Suggested Bet – WHY ME WIN RACE 2 COMIC HERO will be extremely popular with punters after a solid debut third behind subsequent Saturday 3 year old quinella Too Dardy and Berbere. He drops from a 3 year old 0MWLY into a set weights maiden, drops half a kilo in weight, Pike rides, drawn well. Ticks all the boxes. Unfortunately, you’d think the price will start with a 1 and the number after the decimal point is likely to be a 5 or a 6. Looks a nice type. TORPEDOMAN is quick but he’s struggling to find a race where he can control and kick into the corner without copping mid-race pressure. QUINDANDINO is first-up no trial off surgery to remove bone chips. Showed ability in both preparations to date. STAR POWER is a long time maiden. She’s got ability but tends to find one or two better each and every time. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – COMIC HERO WIN RACE 3 BONJOY is a sharp filly who looks well placed back into midweek company. She toyed with C3 rivals at her return to racing when displaying a big turn of foot to score. Was thrown into the deep end (for the second time in her career) when contesting the Listed Raconteur Stakes second-up. Finished less than 4L off Vast Art, Rusty Dreams (WAROA Belmont Guineas winner) and Upper Limits. That’s great form for a 3 year old midweeker. DIAMOND COMMAND got to the line strongly second-up against the older horses. She’s drawn the cutaway and if it’s a fast lane she’s dangerous. IMPERIALIZE was in the wrong part of the track at Northam last start. Keep safe at odds. MADAME MAGIC is better than what she showed at Northam. Don’t think she appreciated the Heavy9 conditions. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – BONJOY WIN RACE 4 CHINA SPIRIT is going to need a good steer from Pat Carbery. Excellent return behind Katona in a C3 before holding his own with genuine excuses only 4L off Arid, Upper Limits and Rear Admiral before tramping wide throughout last start when towing subsequent 60+ Graduation winner Noteworthy into the event. That form is franked and a senior rider goes on. It’s the draw that makes things difficult. Would want eachway. RENATO finished off well enough through traffic over 1000m to loom as one of the horses to beat. WITCH STREET is a wet tracker and is going well this campaign. MENINA is racing consistently. Just hasn’t won a race for a long while. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 10 – 11 Suggested Bet – CHINA SPIRIT EACHWAY RACE 5 CHARMING BELLE broke her maiden off an identical day spacing first-up last campaign and then was tested against better quality opposition than what she meets here. She went straight into a 3 year old 62+ when finishing 1L off Beads, Colossal, Cobbanco and Sneaky Chance before finishing third to Magic To Exceed and Multinational in a 60+ Graduation. First time she’s been to a C1 and trialled super without blinkers on. Provided they can make ground she should launch late. SNAZZLER tried hard behind Paddy’s Flyin’ and now regains the services of William Pike. WEAPONIZE broke his maiden impressively over a subsequent winner. ZOUBOLTZ is better than what he produced last start. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – CHARMING BELLE WIN RACE 6 FEARLESS TALK is racing particularly well and always goes round an eachway price. She finished third behind an inform Belgrano Belle before playing up in the gates and being sent back to trials. Last start was over a month between runs and gave a heap of cheek out in front when leading past the 50m before being gunned down on the post by highly progressive filly Duchess Of Gossip. 53.5kg, drawn well, versatile and proven in the wet. Should run another honest eachway race. SWEET TEA finally drops back into a C1. If they’re winning 3 deep with cover she’ll become very popular. Comes out of a winner producing race (Ihts Closing Inn, Tallangatta, Flash Ducati, Universal Flair). Right race for her. MISSILE STORM improves second-up. NO PEER is going along alright. Numbers: 10 – 5 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet – FEARLESS TALK EACHWAY RACE 7 This race simply has too much speed: Olga Louisa, Cliffs Of Comfort, Deep Dive, Prince Ragnar, Sir Snugalot, Final Authority. Hoping it’s LEXINGTON CITY who opts out of that early speed battle and takes cover stalking the leaders. Over the 1000m you’re guaranteed to get a cart into the home straight and from there horses fan along the cutaway and he should get his chance. Brave effort first-up in a 66+ when deep throughout. WEDNESDAY has excellent point to point acceleration. If she can stay in touch with them in the middle stages she’ll be dangerous late. DEEP DIVE drops back in grade and is drawn the cutaway leader’s back. OLGA LOUISA is drawn outside 100 speed horses but she’s extraordinarily quick. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – LEXINGTON CITY EACHWAY RACE 8 BIGDAYONIT may be stretched at the end of 1650 but he should be in front for a long way. Lead them rolling at York three starts ago beating Forlane and then held his own behind Nunes and subsequent winner Sisu Warrior. Proven in the wet, kicks through to lead and dictate and likely jumps an eachway price. SECRET IDENTITY ran through the line strongly last Wednesday and should get a sweet trip midfield. PENNY’S AFIELD is going better than her numerical form suggests, however, is a month between runs with pads going on. CARTANERA was never a chance the way the race was run last start. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – BIGDAYONIT EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,6 1,5,7,10,11 1,2,3,4,5,7,10 2,4,6 Market Market
