Scott Embry’s Wednesday Belmont Preview Posted on January 17, 2023March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BISECTOR ran them into the ground at Ascot first-up over 1100m. She simply bolted in the middle stages and that’s where she won the race. The overall race time was 4.5L faster than maiden average and she simply pinched a break on them before the corner. Comes back to 1000m and looks like leading comfortably again. Holly Watson rides these horses well and she gets a wonderful chance to go back to back. PENNIES GALORE is likely to take the trail from barrier 1 and stalk her every move. SOFIA’S SYMPHONY wasn’t asked for much at trials without blinkers and made good late ground. JEANELLA won well at Geraldton first-up but didn’t beat much. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – BISECTOR WIN RACE 2 LIEUTENANT DUNBAR has been stiff to run into the likes of Costazita, King’s Wench and Valsassina at his last two outings. Most recently in a 3 year old 0MWLY he carried 58.5kg after the apprentice claim and finished second to subsequent Saturday winner Valsassina and now drops 2kg into a set weights maiden and gains the services of Brad Parnham. From the draw he has options and while this looks a decent maiden he still should get every chance. SPIRIT MAN kicked for home fresh and looked like he was going to do enough until he got tired in the last 50m and was swamped left, right and centre. Improves and looms as the danger. BUDGERIGAR trialled really well and maps to enjoy a gun run. DIVINE INANNA never gave up the chase behind Bisector first-up but may get posted from the wide draw? Numbers: 4 – 5 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet – LIEUTENANT DUNBAR WIN RACE 3 KING’S WENCH ran into impressive debut winner Costazita first-up off the back of an impressive trial win. At her second start she hit the Pinjarra Scarpside (a track that has been so far notoriously hard to make ground on) and sat three deep throughout and proved strong for sharp subsequent winner Renato. Rises 200m, rises 2kg but strikes a moderate C1 which doesn’t look to have any stars. Great chance to put two together. ENGLISH BAY has her first start for Grant & Alana Williams for Bookmaking duo Peter & Scott McCormack. Her first trial under William Pike was impressive and then she was solid again under Paul Harvey. SOLID GOLD hit a real flat spot at the 600 at Ascot and was ultimately gunned down by Three Eze. Query on that form. SECRET DEPLOY looks a shade of his 3 year old self. Hasn’t shown up at the races or trials recently. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – KING’S WENCH WIN RACE 4 PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC is the obvious class dropper after parking deep throughout in a 3-year-old 1100 fresh at Ascot. Paul Harvey on, back to a C1, plenty to like except the price and the speed drawn underneath him. Did sit off-speed one day at Belmont when finishing 2L off Revitup and Jeanella. Under $3 for a horse who may have to park deep throughout is a risky investment but he looks the class runner. CUT THE TALK resumed first-up, no trial down the 1000m straight at Pinjarra when winning by over a length. There’s a stack of speed in this and he can opt out and park just in behind. Nice return to racing. STRIKE resumes for a new yard and wasn’t asked for an effort at trials. HIGH PRECISION a blow out chance. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet – PLAYTHATFUNKYMUSIC WIN RACE 5 HOLA MAREA had fours runs last preparation, won first-up over 1300m beating handy galloper Ciscojoe, went straight to 1400m second-up and was only 1L off War Gem and Mosquito, third-up won a C1 beating Oly’s Choice and then finished the preparation 1.75L off Brave Venture, Cold Shizzle and Extra Secret. Good winning form for a C3 1200 and he trialled without visors and trialled well. Hard to beat. BRIGHID found the 1000m too sharp fresh. Far better suited at 1200, drops 2.5kg and gets the right run midfield with cover. MILITARY BEAT can park leader’s back and gets a soft run. AMBERGATE ROSE is proven in this grade and comes back to 1200m. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – HOLA MAREA WIN RACE 6 SEBERATE hasn’t won a race for 760 days but if he’s going to pinch one this is it. First-up finished 2.5L off Hardly Ever, Real Danger and My Dilemma, second-up finished 1.7L off undefeated filly Rear Admiral and Rebelzone (plunged and luckless on Saturday), beating home subsequent winners Amber Highway and Baby Blues. Drawn to enjoy the run of the race. SATURN BLACK is going super but the draw means she’s likely to have to drag back and concede him a fair head start. LUCY DA GREY is the other form galloper, coming out of races at Geraldton where she’s been competitive with handy types like Eliminate and Ask An Angel. VALLEY OF QUEENS an improver (if jumping). Numbers: 2 – 9 – 8 – 10 Suggested Bet – SEBERATE WIN RACE 7 BLEECKER STREET comes through the winner producing 3 year old 1400m behind Feels Playful. That race produced Defiant Diorite last Wednesday ($6 into $3.60) and Saloon Bar on Saturday ($4.60 into $2.50) who both duly saluted. Bleecker Street was held up repeatedly in the home straight and looked to be travelling as well as anything with nowhere to go. Steps to 1600m, comes back into a C3 where he carries only half a kilo more and is drawn to get a nice run midfield. EMERALD TRADER looms as a big danger. Hard to not be impressed with the way he’s going and the way he’s constantly attacking the line. Starting to put it all together. ROCKSTAR STATUS can lead or take cover on Heaps Of Moolah. ZOOROPA looks progressive but the draw is very awkward. Numbers: 7 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – BLEECKER STREET WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,6 1,5 2,8,9 2,5,7 Market Market
