Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on December 17, 2024December 17, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SHMOOV MOOVA was extremely impressive at the trials leading into his debut where he went around an easing $2.80 favourite in a Saturday 3 Year Old Plate. Didn’t seem to appreciate the Heavy track and yet still made a late run (and an unsuccessful protest) against handy type Mean Machine and beat home subsequent winner Keep Ita Mystery. Recent trial was very quiet and expect him to go close at his return. Shop early. NICCIMOTA was touted as a genuine threat to Wind And The Lion on debut as a 2 year old. She’s quick. GOD SHE’S SASSY looked really good in her 930m Lark Hill trial back in June. RULESQUE next best. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 9 – 2 Selection: SHMOOV MOOVA WIN RACE 2 SUNSHINE TAFE is only the winner of a Kalgoorlie maiden but her ability is far better than that. In her two runs back this campaign she has raced without a lot of luck and this looks the most suitable race she has seen so far. Just needs to find the right back to follow from a tricky draw. SUPIDO EXPRESS found the 1000 far too short first-up and Mitch Pateman goes straight to 1200 and straight to blinkers. BANG FOR BUCK didn’t have much room to move late on debut. HOUSEWIFE improves. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 4 – 7 Selection: SUNSHINE TAFE EACHWAY RACE 3 OISIN made an impression on debut. He was $7 into $3.90 in the last 20 minutes of betting and was able to get the job done from three deep cover in a tradesman style win. Get the feeling he will only improve with racing and he might have a bit of upside and versatility about him. Worth following. PLAY THE BLUFF drops back into a C1 and has blinkers on first time. He’s always had a bit of a following. CEILI has always shown ability and was able to take full advantage of the on-speed Bunbury surface last start. IM CRAFTY has X-Factor. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 6 – 1 Selection: OISIN WIN RACE 4 LIFEISBUTADREAM is a lightly raced mare with an imposing strike rate. After breaking her maiden at $1.40 she went straight into a C3 and won again before heading to a Saturday 60+ Graduation when far from disgraced only 2.8L off Rockin Rupert. Considering how that galloper has gone in the last few months and the recent trial of this mare she’ll have fans regardless of the tricky alley. PLATO OR PLOMO has been going really well in harder races than this recently and 1000m is his go. CLOSE AT HAND defied a huge drift to win on debut but didn’t race at the same level after. ROCKING GEM could lead this. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 8 Selection: LIFEISBUTADREAM WIN RACE 5 SANTA BRAE looks ready to win one. He tried hard behind emerging lower grade stayer True Player at Bunbury and then ran really well considering he was back in distance to finish third to now 60+ Graduation winner Prophet And Power. Right form, right grade, right draw, right race. QUEEN NARDI wins last start if she went straight. Racing like she wants 2000+. LORD RANDOLPH is very hard to catch but racing well enough if he turns up. ZACKARIAH BEAU is an 11 year old but he’s still showing plenty of zest for racing. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 2 Selection: SANTA BRAE WIN RACE 6 SENTIMENTAL HERO put the writing on the wall in the Luckygray Stakes with a huge runner-up performance behind key rival Diamond Scene. At his first attempt at a staying trip he was sent to the top by Lucy Fiore and simply dominated them. Skipped the Towton Cup and is a big chance of winning the ATA on his way through to the Perth Cup. DIAMOND SCENE looked the winner in the ATA but couldn’t quite get past a gritty Playhouse Patron. ROYAL TORONADO is flying and will measure up at this level. IOWA can roll forward in a race where few others will want to. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 12 – 6 Selection: SENTIMENTAL HERO WIN RACE 7 NOBELLITY has had two runs for new trainer Renee Forrest and they’ve both been super. Third at 150-1 behind highly impressive subsequent winner Norich and then was too quick for them at Belmont this distance/grade. Given SP profile we’ll likely get double figures again. SHOOTING SPIRIT won very well fresh and then encountered some traffic second-up before flashing late. He’s come back in excellent order. LONSDALEITE has a negative racing pattern but both runs this prep have been eyecatching. GOLD VANCOUVER was only 1L off All Play. Numbers: 9 – 7 – 4 – 8 Selection: NOBELLITY EACHWAY Quaddie 1,2,4,8 1,3,4 1,2,12 1,4,7,8 Market Market
