Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on May 11, 2021May 11, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 RENEGADE RULER has improved between 1 & 2L at each of his last 3 starts. If he continues on that natural improvement curve, he’ll be hard to beat in this 1800m maiden. Two starts ago finished 3.5L off winners Big Screen, Gee Force and Piccola Signora before running a solid second last start. Three deep with cover building into the race from the 800 looks a nice position for him. VANMAN is likely to be in that 3-deep line with him. We all know these Cerise and White runners get better with trip. SUBJUGATOR an improver at odds. BUCKEYE BULLET is versatile. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – RENEGADE RULER WIN RACE 2 ALBUKTURI is the most intriguing runner of the meeting. Always a difficult decision to side with or against these Gangemi runners first-up in WA but he showed enough in his recent trial and returns to racing as a Gelding. Gets the right run from the draw and strikes a very winnable C1. MAY KEEP HIM is a long time C1 but all the runs in Geraldton at the end of his Ash Maley days were good enough to figure at odds. MISCHIEVOUS DIVA wasn’t knocked around in a recent trial and has always shown ability. I’M EUGNE trialled up nicely and can lead or box seat from the draw. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – ALBUKTURI WIN RACE 3 APPLE SCHNAPPS is no star but should be afforded every chance from the soft draw. Looks a race between himself and the debutante and with race fitness on his side he’ll get the nod narrowly. WRITTEN MATTER couldn’t have found a weaker C1 in which to make his debut. Fully extended at his recent trial but was impressive. Would love to see JJ Noske kick one home as a warm up for Rocky on Saturday. KARLI’S KARMA was untouched in her recent trial. Bars are a big red flag. JAY DEE can come across from out wide and nearly find the fence. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – APPLE SCHNAPPS WIN RACE 4 TIMELY OUTBURST did what she had to do first-up when returning in a lowly C1 event. Looks the kind of filly who will appreciate a more genuinely run 1000m scamper and gets those conditions here. Likely to again roll forward to the breeze and can remain undefeated as she heads for Saturday races. MATERIAL WITNESS is the obvious testing material on paper. Might have only won 2 races in Albany but has clocked all the best sections at each meeting. JANAURA is well placed into this C3 and can run a cheeky race at her return. SMART PRINCESS found herself in the wrong part of the track first-up. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – TIMELY OUTBURST WIN RACE 5 TRI FOR US is looking to notch her third straight victory after tasting defeat by a nose on debut. Versatile filly who can sit parked right behind the speed and looks hard to beat again. Gave the C3 fillies and mares a lesson last week and while this is harder, she looks super progressive. SON SON is no slouch and his effort in the wet last week can’t be underestimated. Comes across from the wide gate and should relish getting back out to 1400m. BRAGWELL drops out of a hot Saturday race back into a midweeker. Going well and drawn ideally. PERFECT GEM won a Northam maiden first-up and strikes a tough field of 3 year olds. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – TRI FOR US WIN RACE 6 LONEHAND LARRY was dominant at his Hayden Ballantyne debut when winning an 1100m maiden running away from them by over a length. Went straight from maiden company into a 60+ Graduation and ran a ripper. Looks a 1400/1600m horse and drops back to a C1. After the claim carries the same weight in a 50+ as he did last start in a 60+. MIGHTINESS has completed the standard Bob Peters internal transfer from Grant & Alana Williams to Adam Durrant who goes back to basics pulling the gear off. REGAL DIVIDEND was a nightmare in the yard last week. Backs up and gets back on top of the ground. WINNIE’S WINE may finally get conditions to suit. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – LONEHAND LARRY WIN RACE 7 SPEEDBIRD is looking to win three on the trot and if the day turns out to be three deep cover, winding up down the middle it will only enhance her chances. Has to carry 59kg here but she’s been letting down powerfully since dominating moderate opposition at Geraldton on Cup Day. Improving filly. SAID NO ONE EVER did a mountain of work last start. He should be able to amble forward to breeze here. CHILI IS HOT burst onto the scene winning two from two. This preparation has been found plenty of traffic. LORD LONSDALE hasn’t quite lived up to expectations so far this preparation but this is a nice race for him. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – SPEEDBIRD WIN RACE 8 GUNS OF NAVARONE has raced in higher grade than this ever since winning a 60+ in September 2019. Ran second placings to Plutocracy, Mervyn and Hoboken in 72+ and 78+ grade when racing 42 days between runs and Neville Parnham follows that game-plan here with a freshen and a drop in grade. If they’re making ground, he’s a live chance at double figures. BEFFUNJAR is well placed back into a C3. Trialled up very sharply and is drawn a gate to get a soft run midfield. SUPER EX broke the track record at Northam and gets important weight relief with the stable apprentice back on. ISLAND MISSILE maps to get the right run and goes well fresh. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – GUNS OF NAVARONE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,3,4 1 1,2,4,5,8 1,2,3,4,5,6,9,10 Market Market
