Scott Embry’s Wednesday Ascot Preview Posted on October 14, 2025October 15, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FRIAR’S LEGACY ran third to Country God first-up last preparation in a 2 year old mid-weeker before winning a 3 year old maiden over 1200 (when clocking the fastest L200 after leading) and finished his preparation on a Saturday when heavily commissioned to beat Country God. Soft trial leading his return and should land into a prominent spot in running. THINK PINK DAZE was very impressive on debut and immediately tipped out, indicating that Team Williams plan to aim her up at some of the carnival features. DANCE ON SON fought on well on debut and should only improve. ETERNALLY YOURS still looks very new and green but there’s a motor there. Numbers: 1 – 9 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – FRIAR’S LEGACY WIN RACE 2 LONG SERVICE LEAF was crunched in betting on debut off the back of a strong trial and the money landed. He was chasing from a fair way out over the 1000m which gives the impression he’ll be far better suited at a more forgiving 1200 second-up and have confidence that both him, and the second placed filly Conchetta’s Dream are well above average. This is a weaker race on paper and so he’ll go around very short. PUBLICISE was $12 into $5.50 on debut on a Saturday. Didn’t step and didn’t fire a shot, but respect the volume of support. ZALI’S GIFT ran third to Baby Pearl on debut at Bunbury and then was wide throughout when beaten a margin behind Mardusa. JIMMY ANGEL has been thereabouts all campaign. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – LONG SERVICE LEAF WIN RACE 3 BUTHELEZI went around at big prices in his initial campaign but they were 2 year old Saturdays where he raced horses with far more ability and future than what he meets here and he now returns off a soft trial at 1500m which is naturally a task, but he’s bred to stay and is drawn to get an economical passage. EFFORTLESSLY really caught the eye on debut from a mile off them behind Spank Appeal and then ran a solid second to stablemate Holler Nuff who looks quite progressive. 3kg claimer to CJP. Looks very winnable. TOSCANO put in a ripper first-up and then two flat runs before bouncing back at his last two with minors to Heeza Phoenix (now a Saturday winner) and Social Affair. MASMELO like Toscano has to overcome a nightmare draw but ran well fresh. Numbers: 10 – 15 – 1 – 16 Suggested Bet – BUTHELEZI EACHWAY RACE 4 ELITE BEAU should be able to track up along the fence line in a fast run 1000m behind the speedy filly Spicy Thang and prove too classy for his opponents. Think if he was to win this he would be a genuine contender in the Belgravia Stakes 10 days later (if that’s the programming in mind) and his two 950m trials at Lark Hill have been sharp. Nice horse. PROMISING was scratched to avoid a heavy track recently so wouldn’t read anything into the gap between trials and race day. She’s got the gate speed to overcome the wide barrier. SPICY THANG only knows one way and with only 51.5kg will be in front for a long way. XENTARO has been given a month after his last start in a 3 year old Saturday when only beaten 1.7L and that’s after riding a few bumps in the home straight. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet – ELITE BEAU WIN RACE 5 STARTLING STAR was enormous three back when three deep the trip and then she broke her maiden over 1600m in what has turned into a serious winner producer (Old Mate Henry x2, Exquisite Taste, Miss Veuve, Guns Away, and quite possibly Zoomachino Thursday at Northam). Went to a C1 last start and only managed to run fourth behind Capable Angel but maybe didn’t love the 7 day back-up and was slightly held up on straightening. Happy to go again. DANDYS GEM beat her home in that event and has had the staying run under her belt since. Should nearly lead this? AUTHORATIVE took 21 starts to break his maiden but it’s amazing how many go back to back after taking an eternity. OPAL TANGO is better than what she produced a month ago. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – STARTLING STAR WIN RACE 6 SOCIAL AFFAIR has been a model of consistency throughout her career, in fact she’s only missed d the money twice and they’ve both been when running fourth. She’s got a bit of tactical speed (in a race devoid of pace) and that should ensure she takes full advantage of her barrier. Always goes around eachway and this looks quite a thin C1. MUST BE NICE has some X-Factor. Was only a Geraldton maiden win but the last furlong was really impressive. Tends to miss the kick so barrier is irrelevant to him. ZIPPY ZANY ran second to Spank Appeal and then second to Hoba West in her last two. She’s knocking on the door. ACROSS GENERATIONS showed plenty early but hasn’t quite lived up to expectation just yet. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – SOCIAL AFFAIR EACHWAY RACE 7 FINE STAR looks to have found a very nice starting point to her Burgess Queen – Champion Fillies preparation. She’s fresh at 1200m, is drawn to get a lovely stalking run and technically she’s a class dropper as well. 3 year old 0MWLY are handicapped 54+ and the C1 races are 50+, after the 3 year old allowance she’s in brilliantly with 57.5kg and this looks her race. SUPIDO EXPRESS resumed in a C3 and held his own when beaten less than a length by Three Grand. If Pat Carbery gets across without burning too much early fuel he’s the danger. KIMBERLEY CURRENCY was only 3.7L off Black Ora in a Saturday before heading to Geraldton and finishing runner up to Hewilldous. HEDAWOOD will need to be good under 60.5kg from the outside draw. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – FINE STAR WIN RACE 8 ASTRO WORLD has only had two starts for Michael Grantham, a monster run first-up at 1200m on a day at Pinjarra where it was near impossible to make any ground at all and then an extremely disappointing run second-up at a mile as a beaten $2.20 favourite. Was spelled after that and looks the progressive horse in the race who is capable of working her way through the grades. GREAT EDITION is holding form brilliantly. He can lead these, or park outside of Talk TO Wyn and control. Either way he’s right there. SUMMER’S LEGACY is not the kind of horse who can afford to be held up in the home straight like she was fresh. TOURETTO will need a big ride from Chanel Cooper considering he’ll be likely back and in traffic. Numbers: 11 – 4 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – ASTRO WORLD WIN Market Market
