Scott Embry’s Tuesday Albany Preview Posted on December 24, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 WIN TO RETIRE has put the writing on the wall at her last two outings. She finished third behind Thehorseman (since run second in a C3) and third behind Hoba West after being well supported in betting and battling on well from the breeze. Provincial maiden to a country maiden and Paul Roberts horses have been running well in Albany. Looks a grea trace for her to break through. BEST OF THE GODS is drawn awkwardly again. Trial was good behind The Spruiker and then covered ground fresh. PRIX D’AMOUR showed glimpses early but hasn’t shown much recently. ROMMEO has been getting too far back in recent runs in big fields. FIGHT IN FLIGHT was alright first-up behind Song Story and Playing Rio. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 6 – 10 Suggested Bet – WIN TO RETIRE WIN RACE 2 PILBARA SONG scratched from the $50,000 maiden at Ascot on Saturday to attack this instead on Boxing Day. Massive effort up the ‘wrong’ side of the Pinjarra straight. Only two starts prior did finish third behind dual subsequent winner Magnaburma. NANARUP is still accepted in that same race. This is clearly easier and his first-up third behind The Rush would be good enough to win this. ROCKIN’ THE SILKS was solid behind Hans Christian at his first outing for Steve Wolfe in Albany. He’s no star but he’ll be winning one of these sooner rather than later. GOOD SONG has speed to come across from the wide gate. Numbers: 2 – 8 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – PILBARA SONG WIN RACE 3 ULTIMATE STYLE was able to win first-up over 1200m in a 70+ and should only be better suited second-up at 1500m. This is a nice stepping stone for him to continue his way up the country ratings before ultimately heading back to town. Should sit right up over the speed here and prove very hard to beat. ANNIHILATOR broke a long run of outs last start when getting past Looks in the final 200. There’s not much between him and ROCK OF KAHA whose winning run came to an end last start when he finished sixth. ELITE FIGHTER has raced in town at his last two. Third in the Regional Championship Final was super. Numbers: 3 – 5 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – ULTIMATE STYLE WIN RACE 4 THE ROAN RANGER won his second race at start number 40 and it was in absolute style. He’s the kind of horse who has the ability to string a few together. It’s just a matter of reproducing the run. THE ROAN RANGER and DIVINE MERCY both won same track, same distance, same day and the C1 gallopers went much quicker (~16L). DIVINE MERCY won the 58+ 1934 last start and likely gets the same run. Considering he was momentarily held up on straightening you could argue that he wins that race by further and looms the obvious danger. MAGNABURMA has won three from four this time in and was brave with 60.5kg last start. ROYAL CHOISIR next best. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – THE ROAN RANGER WIN RACE 5 YES OF COURSE was in front for 1599m last start when nailed on the post by Magnaburma. He drops back another 100m and he should be in front for almost the entirety again. He’s getting fitter and fitter and closer and closer to breaking through for a deserved win. PRANCING IN MILAN got to the line well behind Imposing Brook in a race that was dominated from the top. BOBSLED met with wild support at his first start for Paul Hunter. Settled off speed and ran quite well. STAR IN TIME can hold a spot and the Rebecca Bayliss team are flying. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – YES OF COURSE WIN RACE 6 LUCKY LANDING went around on the second line of betting in a 58+ behind Millivoy last start. He ran a solid second and all three runs this preparation have been in higher grade (C3, 58+, 58+). He now drops back into a C2 and the Michael Lane stable is unstoppable at the minute. Gets every chance from barrier 1 to lead or box seat and go very close. DODGE’EM lead and won on a Soft7 when last in work. If he’s ready to go and the money comes his way then it could well be game on. CIAO LUNA won a 3 year old maiden and a C1 at Belmont last preparation. Her best is good enough. DOES HE KNOW was excellent last start, just an awkward barrier to contend with. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – LUCKY LANDING WIN RACE 7 STARAUTHORESS nearly wins the Regional Championship Final with a clear crack at them. Looked to be bolting behind heels but just never got out at any stage. He’s in good order and maps to get the right run. LOOKS stepped out to 1500m last start and just didn’t quite run it out (final stride). Back to 1240m means that he’ll be in front for a long, long way. KOHLI had a brilliant preparation last campaign and is yet to miss the Top Two from six outings at the Albany Race Club. His recent trial win was really strong, winning by 4L and getting through his gears in the later stages under a hold. 63.5kg is a real leveller though. VONSNIP won well last start. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – STARAUTHORESS WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,4 1,5 1,2,3 1,2,6 Market Market
