Scott Embry’s Thursday York Preview Posted on May 17, 2022May 19, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CRUCIAL METAL hasn’t had any luck at trials and yet has still hit the line well enough to suggest that on debut in a maiden handicap she’ll take beating. She’s a 2 year old filly taking on the older horses which means that she gets in with only 55kg and gets considerable weight on the majority of her rivals. Like the placement, unique. AL TINA heads to Keith Reeves after Michael Lane was unable to win one with her. She was rarely far from the action and she’ll have admirers here. TIGER MOVE promised to break through on numerous occasions last preparation. Just needs to stay with them early. DIMINUTIVE JEWEL trialled well leading into his debut. Numbers: 11 – 4 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – CRUCIAL METAL WIN RACE 2 UNCOMPROMISED was an alarming drifter first-up and ran accordingly. Willing to follow up at least once more considering the trial was sound. Comes from an open maiden into a maiden handicap and from the draw Pat Carbery should have him poised and ready to strike. Won’t get one much weaker than this in the provincial area. SNIPS ROCK will be charging late. She has raced in far better maidens than what she meets here and has hit the line well on all three occasions considering the way those races were run. JACKEMJAMES wasn’t bad first-up and should only improve for the outing. SECRET LAIR has been there abouts all campaign. Numbers: 4 – 9 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – UNCOMPROMISED WIN RACE 3 KANDAKA was beaten in a C2 at Kalgoorlie last start. Not normally a form reference you would be following but willing to make an exception to the rule for a few reasons: 1) the race was run 5L faster than average with the leader’s never coming up for air at any stage; and 2) senior rider goes back on. Drawn to get the run of the race and stalk a genuine tempo behind Frosty Belle. First-up win was strong. FROSTY BELLE is the likely leader and if she is ridden in the same manner as she was last start at Geraldton there’s no reason why she can’t lead and win again. BELOVED STAR comes from a maiden into a country ratings race and goes round top weight with 59.5kg. Interesting to see how the market reacts to him. SILVER BO is going well. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – KANDAKA WIN RACE 4 ZIP YOUR LIPS toyed with them at Albany first-up when plunged in betting. He was nominated for last Sunday but withdrawn with a minor issue. This is a nice assignment for him and it could be a big day for CJP and Adam Durrant. From the draw he should enjoy a lovely run one out and one back and looks hard to hold out late even with the big weight. AL MAHALO can bounce back in this. Nice little drop in grade for him compared to what he has competed in recently. OXBRIDGE has hit form and is holding it nicely. Should get every chance from the draw. SILVER BUGG gets last crack at them. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – ZIP YOUR LIPS WIN RACE 5 NORICH is going really well for the new stable. The win two starts ago was strong when doing it on top of the speed throughout in a race where the leader folded up noticeably on straightening and then last start was peeling late ground off a relatively talented leader in Famous Jurney. This is easier on paper and he should go well again. DOUBLE DEMERITS hasn’t been seen at the races for 46 days and gets back, however, he has shown ability from time to time and does drop considerable weight here. LUCY DA GREY is going super and seems to love these tighter tracks. I’M EUGENE was terrible first-up. Not sure what’s going wrong with him. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – NORICH WIN RACE 6 IANS SPECIAL gives Karen Kersley a genuine look in at a race to race double here. Both of her horses were in the same race last start behind Famous Jurney and with any luck Norich will make the form look good after Race 5 on Thursday. IAN’S SPECIAL gave cheek first-up behind Lucy Da Grey and Nodustonme in a 52+ and then last start was competitive from a long way back in a C3. Going well enough to figure here. SOLDER broke through at the end of last preparation in a Geraldton maiden but had shown a turn of foot in her races and trials. SAX ON QUE is on the quick back-up from Sunday and seems to go well on the short spin around. SPIRIT AND FIRE will find a race eventually when able to lead without pressure. Numbers: 8 – 11 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – IANS SPECIAL EACHWAY RACE 7 PERI PERI PARA looks just about ready. The run three starts ago was encouraging at York this track and distance. The run two starts ago was great behind Mystical Babe and Frequent Friar and then last start was strong in betting but failed to handle track conditions. This looks a nice race for him on paper. INTERSTATE is an interesting runner in this field. On paper hasn’t fired a shot so far this campaign but they have been in far better races than what he meets here. His last start he lead them in a 78+ and only finished 8L off God Has Chosen, Watch Me Dance, Media Baron & Co. Not impossible. EGG WHITE is building into the campaign. He’ll need to get moving at the right time. ABELDANE is going along alright and will pinch one eventually for new connections. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – PERI PERI PARA WIN RACE 8 STAR OF ROSIE only won a York maiden on debut but she did it with some style. She then went to Belmont and had a few barrier issues and has been back to trials on a few occasions. Fingers crossed they’ve been able to get through her issues because she looks to have genuine upside and a turn of foot. Winner on debut at York over 1200m and looks hard to beat at start number two in a York 1300. Just needs to go into the gates and then stay out of trouble. Like her as a filly. REGUARDLESS has been hit and miss but at her best she’s pretty handy. FIRE ANT hasn’t won for an eternity but some of her runs in defeat have been huge. METALLIC QUEEN didn’t get much luck last start. Enter Shaun O’Donnell. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 5 – 11 Suggested Bet – STAR OF ROSIE WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,6 1,5,7,8,11 1,2,4,7,9 3 Market Market
