Scott Embry’s Thursday York Preview Posted on May 13, 2026May 13, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CROWS led and won a 1300m maiden at Northam last preparation and then did a lot wrong at her subsequent outings before heading for a spell. Both trials this time around have been quite solid and from the inside draw she’ll get every chance in what looks an extremely thin race. WHO SAZ YES contested a 56+ at Lark Hill and made good ground from the back of the field in a leader dominated contest. Last win was a 46+ 1300 at York – same track/distance/grade (same jock too). MANTA RAY BAY is having his 9th run of the prep but continues to go well in this grade at Narrogin/York. STATE OF FURY won a C3 1200 fresh last preparation and Mack Hall has a knack with these older tried types. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – CROWS WIN RACE 2 YALDA NIGHT nearly won a 46+ 1720 two back for Holly Nottle and then ran second to Kleva Conned in a C1 1800 six days later at Ascot. Senior rider on, back into a maiden handicap and has been in ‘career best’ this prep. GOLD ENIGMA has been knocking on the door all preparation and gest another look in here. Beaten a head by Heavenly Rapture at 1800m at Pinjarra, split Universal Impact and subsequent maiden and C1 winner Midnight Star at 1800m at Ascot and didn’t look suited dropping back in distance last start. Queries: she’s having her 7th run of the prep and might have nearly had enough? She flopped at York four back as a beaten even money fav. MACHO ARQUERO and OBSCENTINO are both through the same 2200m maiden at Northam which turned into a real grinding slog. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – YALDA NIGHT WIN RACE 3 PHOTOSYNTHESIS finished 2L off Le Fem Le Choix and subsequent winners Bonditram, Jimmy Angel and Effortlessly on debut at 1200m at Ascot. At her second run she had a set of shades added and led at 1300m before fading late being Prince of Dala (races in a C1 at Pinjarra on Wednesday). Much easier assignment here into a maiden handicap and has shown enough to suggest she’s one of the main players. HIMIZU ran really well fresh off an 80 day gap between runs at Pinjarra splitting Mysterious Fortune and subsequent winner Free To Fly. The Basset Hound / My Danny Boy form race has 5L on anything in this line-up. Can bounce back. BANGALONG had genuine excuses in the Photosynthesis race last start. CELEBRITY ANGEL needs a scratching to get a run but this is suitable for her. Numbers: 11 – 9 – 8 – 12 Suggested Bet – PHOTOSYNTHESIS WIN RACE 4 FOREVER ELITE was a really quiet barrier trial at Lark Hill (on both occasions) behind Truly Loyal and then met with some support at odds fresh at different stages of betting when beaten 6L behind Solar Chant. That form has already proven fruitful with Jolson Al and Guarantor running the quinella in a Northam maiden and many punters likely to be lining up to back Solar Chant later in the program here at York. GREYT RUBY ran well on debut behind Aitch Montana at Pinjarra and then was immediately spelled after a disappointing second-up performance. FLICKN RUBIES was less than 2L off Jimmy Angel in a 1400m maiden at Ascot last start after being a late scratching at Lark Hill. SO I THOUGHT was kept safe in betting on debut but looked completely lost from start to finish. Numbers: 5 – 7 – 10 – 3 Suggested Bet – FOREVER ELITE WIN RACE 5 SOLAR CHANT led and won first-up at Ascot by a 2L margin and stopped the clock 4L faster than average. We’ve seen the second and third horses Jolson Al and Guarantor go head to head at Northam in an 1100m maiden and they dominated running the quinella. She was scratched from a very deep 3 year old Saturday to save for this and expect that she’ll be allowed to stride by Joey Azzopardi in an attempt to run them into the ground again. Great placement. RODNEY OH RODNEY put two wins together in a C1 and 46+ and then the saddle slipped last start in a complete forgive. Jim Enright has him flying. SESH is a bit of a tease but he’ll get a really soft run along the fence in a fast run race. CAWARRA is E2 in the maiden so forced to start here. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – SOLAR CHANT WIN RACE 6 GRANDADS ADDICTION is getting very close now. Second to Shamister (beating home subsequent Lark Hill Cup winner Wayne The Pain) in a 52+ 1720, second to Lien Hypen in back to back outings in a 52+ 1900 and 54+ 2200 and now drops right back into a 44+ 1920 at York. Going really well and deserves to break through and win one. OPAL TANGO will find this lengths easier than the 60+ Graduation and C3 company she comes through. Only 4.5L off Saxon Jewel last start at Ascot and third-up last prep she ran a placing in a C3 which more than measures up here. Right placement. MAXIMUM IMACT should roll to the top and Joe Azzopardi is a very good front running hoop. TOSEN IMPACT won a 52+ 1500 here at York three back and now has blinkers on first time. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – GRANDADS ADDICTION WIN RACE 7 DIAMONDSNRUBIES should be in front for a long way here. First-up last campaign without a barrier trial she led until the last hundred in a C1 1300 that contained Lanfranco and Auto Cruise. That run saw her go around favourite in a Westspeed Platinum second-up before the wheels really fell off. This is good placement into a 52+ at York and she should be hard to run down. LIPSTICK JUNGLE has only won 1 from 14, but she’s run some ripper races across the years in far better races than this. Third to Yorga Pride and Snow God, second to Art Session, 2L to Pingers and Excess Baggage first-up this prep, 2.3L to Urquharts Bluff and So Si God. Gets every chance here. GOOD VIBES just races exclusively at York and Narrogin these days. Perfect 52+ horse, perfect apprentice’s horse. SPEED BUBBLE is well proven at this level. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – DIAMONDSNRUBIES WIN RACE 8 SPACE ACADEMY backs up off 4 days from another fast finishing effort on Sunday at Kalgoorlie. Since arriving in WA he has only put in one below par performance and that was at Albany over 1900m (may not stay?), otherwise he’s put in eight extremely honest and consistent efforts. Has actually backed up off 4 days previously at Corowa on 28/12/2024 and was beaten a head at 30-1. A lot to like. OCTOBER ROX is racing like the step up in trip will suit and this is easier than running into progressive types Herault and Belaura Star. SIDE SHOW has dropped a stack of points over the last 18 months and is now back in a position to start winning again. VANCOUVER STORM can sprint well fresh as a staying type resuming. Numbers: 3 – 10 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – SPACE ACADEMY WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,3 1,2,3,10 3,4,8 3,10 Market Market
