Scott Embry’s Thursday York Preview Posted on October 8, 2024October 8, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MAI ALOHA went around $1.60 first-up behind First Beach in an all age maiden at Bunbury. Considering she’s now dropping into a maiden handicap at York on a Thursday afternoon expect that she’ll go around ridiculously short in betting. Has upside, has a barrier and takes on moderate opposition. ROMMEL’S GODDESS trialled well from the back of the field at Belmont (ridden by Luke Campbell not Laqdar Ramoly as published) and has good race form from when last in work. WHAT’S THE POINT is a grey (near white actually) who looks very raw but showed speed at Belmont. FLINDER’S LANE is going well. Numbers: 9 – 4 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – MAI ALOHA WIN RACE 2 FLAGSHIP comes through a winner producing 3 year old Plate behind Keep Ita Mystery, Queen of Hawks and London’s Image into a maiden handicap at York. Looks like excellent placement by Neville Parnham and few ride the track as well as Laqdar Ramoly so expecting he’ll be popular with punters and he should go very well. THE MIGHTY BELL ran well on debut behind Our Mate Archie and Boussac and then never got into the contest second-up. Forgive. SURROUND ME and WEAPONS HOT come through the God’s Gate race which was run 7L faster than maiden average. Forget the beaten margins. Numbers: 3 – 6 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – FLAGSHIP WIN RACE 3 MANHATTAN JEWEL lead them up last start and had Universal Hotness for company before they were all swamped by highly impressive debutante Olympic Park late in the piece. Happy to follow that through as the form reference here and with the senior on and gate speed up her sleeve she should go well. DANDY’S GEM underperformed fresh vs SP but should be finding his a few lengths easier. FLYING FOREVER didn’t fire a shot on debut when kept safe in betting. MAXIMUM IMPACT is a 43 start maiden so in all likelihood won’t win, but these races were designed for those types and he’s actually been racing well. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 1 – 10 Suggested Bet – MANHATTAN JEWEL WIN RACE 4 GOLD VANCOUVER kept coming impressively over 1000m to gun down Lord Shiva in a C1 1000 at Northam a fortnight ago. This race looks no tougher and after the Chanel Cooper claim she only rises 2kg on that performance. Provided she gets across without burning too much fuel early then she’s the one to beat. THE REPUBLICAN ran 2.3L off Vampi At Play in a C3 at Ascot first-up last campaign and prior to that trialled behind Too Dardy. Don’t dismiss the old boy from running a race fresh. GREAT HEIST had no luck at Narrogin fresh last campaign. SEDUCE ME an improver coming right back in grade after finding a new home. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – GOLD VANCOUVER WIN RACE 5 MIRRORSCHINO finished third behind Missile Storm and Decoration last start at Belmont and beat home key rival PRINCE I THINK by nearly 1.5L in the process. Drawn wide makes things tougher but he looks a one paced type who will be suited being put into the race down the hill at the 600. PRINCE I THINK sneaks back nicely into a 46+ and rattled home last time he raced on the unique York circuit. BEANIE has been well supported in betting a few times recently and won’t find a better race than this any time soon. ZENIQUE needs to improve. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – MIRRORSCHINO WIN RACE 6 NUNES will get every conceivable hope here dropping from a C3 into a 46+ from an ideal barrier with William Pike to ride. Looks like Boy Hill is throwing the kitchen sink at this to try and get her across the line and with plenty of speed engaged she’ll park just behind them and present on straightening. Now or never for her. BILL SELECTS only won a Toodyay maiden but smashed the clock. CHARLIE JANE nearly pinched a C1 1300 two back when nabbed on the post by Champeze. KINGS SICARIO ran well behind Stormageddon and Snippy Sean at Bunbury. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – NUNES WIN RACE 7 CANNY CONI is a natural risk considering her last race day appearance was 446 days ago in July 2023 but Sue Olive’s horses go well fresh, she’s given the mare two trials and they’ve both been really good both with and without blinkers. Has ability but you’ll need an eachway price to entertain backing her. DON’T TELL NAN won back to back races as a jump and run type when last in work. Very respectful of Nan. COSMIC ECLIPSE is better than what she produced last start at Belmont even after being caught wide. CHER went on a hit and run mission to Toodyay and was lifted over the line by Holly Watson. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet – CANNY CONI EACHWAY RACE 8 KRATESIS broke her maiden at Kalgoorlie with a bit of style and the horses who ran second and third both won over the round (Science Degree Hannans Day and Please Mizter Cup Day). Always given the impression she would get ground and this is a nice stepping stone for her. CANGGU is 2 from 2 undefeated at the York 1500, is a 2 time winner in 52+ grade already and on speed and tough. Logical danger and hard to beat at that. AIYZA let loose at Toodyay with a big turn of foot to swamp Ensign Pulver in the shadows. WOZZECK is not an easy horse to catch but Troy Turner rides the track well. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – KRATESIS WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 2,5,7 2,3,6,7 6,7,8,9,10 1,7 Market Market
