Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on October 17, 2023October 17, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ETOMORP was able to get the job done last start under 60kg over 2200m at Northam and in a C3. It’s literally identical conditions here, same track, same distance, same grade, same weight and hopefully for his patient connections it’s same result. Shaun McGruddy sticks with him and he looks to have found another very winnable race #mightyE. INTERVENTION has a much sharper turn of foot than Etomorp so no doubt this race won’t be turned into a sit and sprint to suit her. Clear danger. MISS INTENTION gives the indication she’s ready for the staying trips. LUKE’S PIERRO is finally building. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – ETOMORP WIN RACE 2 DENTED ROMANCE is a long time maiden but Mollie Clark has him going well. Between Etomorp/Apache Blue/Mystical Man the Mollie Clark/Steele Casey yard is going really well and the maidens don’t get much weaker than this. Right place, right time. WHAT SHOUT lead and kicked in a 2200m maiden two starts ago when finishing second behind Melwood Coast, beating home Fey King in the process. Went to a 54+ last start and was beaten out of sight. FEY KING gets the services of Brad Parnham and that’s worth lengths in these staying maidens. STRIKING FELLA is looking like a bit of a one paced stayer. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – DENTED ROMANCE WIN RACE 3 STARATING was excellent on debut behind talented maiden The Boss Lady. She’ll take plenty of benefit from that race day experience, gains the services of William Pike who rode her at the trials and gets out over an extra 200m to suit. She won’t be a maiden long at all. GUARDING HEAVEN comes back into a maiden for the first time in her life. She’s shown more than enough in 2 year old and 3 year old Saturday events to suggest she’ll be hard to beat. STYLISH LORD tested subsequent winner Linden’s Gold on debut and is drawn to get a gun run. DUO MUSO gets a soft run along the fence and is going along okay. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – STARATING WIN RACE 4 IDYLLIC RULER finished third behind Field of Battle and Northeast Eagle which on face value isn’t the most exciting form reference but when you review the meeting at Northam that day it was off fence and down the centre and then when you see they’ve gone 7L faster than average to the 800 he was entitled to fade. Jason Brown returns to the saddle and he’s got enough ability to cover most of these on class alone. LIEN HYPHEN has run two honest races in her career to date. Looks like she’ll improve with racing. PLAY WITH DESIRE should have no excuses from the inside draw but has been plain since his encouraging trial. ROCKIN’ THE SILKS can’t buy a barrier. Numbers: 6 – 11 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – IDYLLIC RULER WIN RACE 5 TANGLED TALK has only been seen once at the races and was well supported in betting. Never really got into the race and never really looked a threat at any stage and was tipped out afterwards. Recent trial win was strong. Interesting to note Jordan Turner jumping off to ride WICKED VENOM. Clearly not much between them. WICKED VENOM has had a number of trials across multiple preparations and has been speedy and consistent in all of them. STOLEN VALOUR comes through the Tycoon Harry / Maxine’s Wish / Champagne Street race which is expected to hold up as a form reference. IMA SINGLE GAL follows the fence. Numbers: 5 – 11 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – TANGLED TALK WIN RACE 6 BARNEY’S WORLD is only coming off a Kalgoorlie maiden win and rises 2kg into what is clearly a tougher race, however, he’s lightly raced, he’s improving with race experience and he showed last start that he doesn’t need to be on speed to win. His prior 3 year old form is more than good enough to win this. UNDER INFLUENCE is a handy galloper resuming. 1000m might be on the short side for him but he’s got a barrier and he’s got Pike. SOARING SOLO hasn’t raced for 40 days which is an unknown. She’s jump and run. RED FLORA was simply too quick for them at Kalgoorlie. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – BARNEY’S WORLD WIN RACE 7 BELGRANO BELLE returned a winner without a trial in a C3 1300 beating Jedi Mind and Sabino. There’s nothing much to write home about in terms of a form reference but she was really strong through the line off the back of a muddling tempo. Looks in for a good campaign. STARRING KNIGHT is drawn wide but is a very good chaser and the outside fence at Northam has been the place to be in recent meetings. Solid return in a tougher race than this. NUNES is first-up and joins Simon Miller’s team. She’s a sharp mare on her day. VALSASSINA can improve quickly. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – BELGRANO BELLE WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 6 5,6,7,9,11 4 1,2,4,6,7,8 Market Market
