Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on November 24, 2021November 24, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 GLENAUREEN is a 24 start maiden. Can Thursday be the day? Yes. Can’t exactly say ‘he won’t get a better chance than this’ because every now and then the staying maidens fall away to a four or five horse field but if he can’t pinch this then he’ll never go on top again. First-up loomed the winner (running straight past Sembello and Jafetica). Last start had a few minor traffic issues and that’s enough to get these one paced types beaten. With clear air Thursday should be win number one. JAFETICA is mixing her form a big. Drops 3kg in weight coming out of a maiden handicap and should get every mortal hope from the draw. SEMBELLO has blinkers put straight back on after they were removed last start. PRAIRIE ANGEL has no weight. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – GLENAUREEN WIN RACE 2 GYPSY GEE resumes from a spell in a pretty even looking little maiden. On debut finished 2L off Astrape and Mountain Ash, then finished third down the straight at Pinjarra before probably putting in a career best in a 3 year old SWP on a Saturday behind He’s A Sizzler, Trix Of The Trade and The Front Bar. They’ve won 8 races between the three of them and Gypsy Gee finds herself in a maiden with only 54.5kg. Should go well. RED ORCA worked to the line nicely at Lark Hill and looks like he’ll win races. BAYZEL has been knocking on the door for a long while. Could potentially be an early double for Brian Kersley with two lifelong maidens? MARINSKY BALLET showed enough at trials. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – GYPSY GEE WIN RACE 3 STAR SOPRANO has blinkers added to gear, drops from a 3 year old 0MWLY back into a maiden and has a senior rider aboard. Bit to like and has shown above average ability at trials. Met with a stack of betting support on Melbourne Cup day and ended up further back than most expected. Found traffic in the homes straight and still finished off alright. DANCE SESSION is all or nothing. Think she’s gradually building stamina bit by bit and will eventually pinch one of these sprinting maidens when able to skip away on the corner. PRIMATIVE didn’t get much luck on debut and that’s a hot form reference race. LADY TORNADO looked to have ability in the most recent trial when cruising round against the fence. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – STAR SOPRANO WIN RACE 4 ACTING GOD gets one more chance. Hit the line really well first-up and then fell into him second-up. At the top of the straight he looked like he would pull to the outside and get the job done but he was no match for Let’s Galahvant and Midnight Mystery. The pair of them might be better than your average maidens and so willing to give him another crack. From the draw will need a decent steer. HOT BLOODED ran well first-up and didn’t get a whole lot of room between runners. Should be in the finished again second-up. EXPELLIARMUS shouldn’t have to burn any fuel here from an ideal draw. Building towards a win. SURVEILLANCE teams up with Holly Watson which guarantees two things: 1) Lochie will strap; and 2) the horse will roll forward to a prominent position. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 9 – 1 Suggested Bet – ACTING GOD WIN RACE 5 I’M EUGENE ran well enough first-up over an unsuitable trip to suggest that second-up out to 1300m he is a big chance. When last in work as a 3 year old he finished only a neck off The Spruiker and beat home Jedi Mind, She’s God To You, Ghost Who Walks and Son Son in a 3 year old 62+. Didn’t mind his effort fresh from a long way off them and from the inside draw he should get a more economical run here. YANGTZE RAPIDS descended upon them first-up in WA. Could prove himself to be a fresh horse and worked to the line in his recent trial. SHOOTING SHIROCCO was in first gear in her recent trial and looked good. Has won both her races off 59 & 53 days so looks another fresh horse. WINSLOT has run second to both Temptacion and Special View. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 5 – 8 Suggested Bet – I’M EUGENE WIN RACE 6 GALACTIC STORM had to pick up with no momentum and sprint up the cutaway to victory at Ascot last start. The horses he beat are a big form query and the overall time of the race was shockingly slow, however, he was also completely unsuited by the way the race was run and still got himself out of trouble. Has a future. I’MA SLY FOX and BRAVE CALL both come from the same race behind My Squeeze Louise and both gallopers were reasonably impressive for separate reasons. Both can play a part in the finish at eachway quotes. ARNO THE FOX does his best on the fresh side. Placed off 38 & 35 days respectively. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – GALACTIC STORM WIN RACE 7 NATIVE CHIMES is hard to fault. She can over race at times but she can still do it at both ends. Paige Kenney’s yard is perennially underestimated, for a small yard she has a long-term strike rate (last 2 years) of 16.4% which is seriously good going. Uses apprentices more often than seniors and they deliver her results. Native Chimes can roll to the top in a race without much tempo and from there she’s the one they’ll need to run down. CHICLETT is the perfect W.Pike horse. Can sit three back the fence and the Wizard is worth lengths to a sit sprint type. HIGH MIST is flying. Will need the race to unfold in his favour but he’s going super. ACERMETRIC can improve quickly and is likely to settle 5L closer to the speed in this race compared to first-up. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – NATIVE CHIMES WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,6 2,4,5,8 1,3,4,6 1,4 Market Market
