Scott Embry’s Thursday Northam Preview Posted on September 4, 2019September 4, 2019 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 WARFISH, DRINKWHATYOULIKE, WILCHINO and OBSTINATION all trialed like horses who would be winning first-up as 3 year olds. No doubt all were nominated for Northam in search for an ‘easy kill’ and that’s the opposite of what they’ve struck. This could be the strongest 1000m 3 year old race of the season to date. Siding cautiously with WILCHINO who absolutely romped in a recent trial. DRINKWHATYOULIKE showed ability and changes yard to a premier juvenile stable. WARFISH draws awkwardly. OBSTINATION looked good in the 400m jump out. Ripping viewing on a Thursday arvo. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – WILCHINO WIN Race 2 ONCE WERE LOST was on debut over 1600m and specked at a price. Is amazingly nominated for the Melbourne Cup by all reports and the way he finished off over the mile suggests he’ll eat up the ground. XAARMERIT showed staying ability two starts ago in his first crack at the trip and backs up from Saturday. Like that combination. FIRST BLACK improved for Justin Warwick. QUEEN KARNILLA gets back and makes a sustained run. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 8 – 7 Suggested Bet – ONCE WERE LOST WIN Race 3 POINT OF HONOUR was the target of incredible levels of support at his WA debut over 2000m. Backed from ~25-1 into under $5. She was fresh as a daisy and ran them along beaten on the home corner. Back to a mile here, keep safe. AMILLIONITE continues to run good races without winning. Her last two have been a bit disappointing but this is a weak race. AHYOKA FROST didn’t go a yard at Kalgoorlie, previous form was better. THANKYOU VERY MUCH has put in two encouraging runs this prep. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – POINT OF HONOUR WIN Race 4 SHOWZALI returns to the races as a 3 year old after a spell. Had 3 runs as a 2 year old and looked to have enough natural ability. The trial was impressive and she draws to box seat. ORACHINO has run third at all three runs back from a spell. This is a nice assignment for her too. GREY DANCER was backed on debut and went close. Never got into the race second career start. DRAGONFLIES comes from 1000m straight races where he looked good. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – SHOWZALI WIN Race 5 FLOWER OF SCOTLAND is a hard horse to ride and is her own worst enemy but she loves the Northam surface and should cross these to lead. From there she’ll look the winner at some stage. MCEDITH was absolutely bolting in behind runners at his WA debut when held up the entire length of the straight. VELGAO is an even harder horse to ride and is even more quirky. Some of his wins have been enormous. From gate 9 he could end up anywhere in the run. ATACAMA SKY comes down from Broome where he was consistent throughout. He is capable of testing these. Numbers: 1 – 8 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – FLOWER OF SCOTLAND WIN Race 6 FLYING TARGET is bursting to win a race and from the draw will get another perfect opportunity to do so. Every time she draws soft she runs a big race. Last start she split Black Ducati and Speedy Miss. That form is far superior to rivals. CARESS YOUR SOUL is going really well for the boutique stable of Rebecca Shanks. Azzopardi should be able to cross to the fence and any of her last three efforts would see her in the mix here at a price. HIGHFRIAR caught the eye two starts ago. SHE’S A GALAH is a nice ride for newly fledged apprentice Tyla Conway. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – FLYING TARGET WIN Race 7 SIR MAMBO was tipped by a lot to finally break through for another deserved win last start when unable to reel in Zephyr Queen. Zephyr Queen has been sneaking under the radar for months and is proving herself a Saturday horse. He gets another even better opportunity here. MOET DE VEGA blew like the wind late in betting fresh and didn’t fire a shot. He is far better than that. PEARL GIRL can sprint sharply off a soft run. FINGERMARK needs luck early but is capable in this grade. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – SIR MAMBO WIN Quad (Race 4 – 7) 8,9 1,2,3,8 5 1,2 Market Market
