Scott Embry’s Thursday Belmont Preview Posted on December 21, 2022March 10, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CAVALLO RED was scratched from Wednesday to save for this lowly Thursday Bunbury at Belmont maiden. He looks like being the shortest priced favourite on the program (for the week?) and he looks like being far too classy for moderate opposition. Ran second to talented mare Uninook in a maiden two starts ago and then finished under a length third behind Rock My Way in a 3 year old Plate last start. AMERICAN AGENT copped a complete KO at Geraldton last start. Prior form was solid. ENCHANTING SOUND trialled better than leading into last preparation. LONESOME DOVE wasn’t too bad down the straight course at Pinjarra. She’s actually Awesome Rock’s half-sister. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – CAVALLO RED WIN RACE 2 FRENCH CHILL ran well first-up behind Solid Gold in an all age maiden. She’s drawn to get a similar run in transit and don’t think there’s any stars or standouts in this race. From the draw she’ll get every opportunity, Takahide Ikenushi’s yard is flying and William Pike is back to his lethal best in the saddle. Hard to fault her. WEST COAST WARRIOR caught the eye at his return and backs up 7 days later. Has tactical speed to use up the more favourable draw as well. CHANGING GUARD finished seventh last start but was only 1.8L off Uninook and Cavallo Red. Should read up even better after Race 1. FELLAFROMDOWNUNDER was wayward in his trial and on race day. Senior rider on a plus. Numbers: 8 – 4 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – FRENCH CHILL WIN RACE 3 THE BIG ONE is double accepted for Wednesday and Thursday. Going to preview on the basis he scratches from here. BIGSPIDER has been one that many trial watchers have been keen to follow to the races in his short career. Has only had two race day appearances and has gone to the paddock after each of them. He’s clearly got some ability but still has plenty to learn. The longer, more forgiving Belmont straight should be to his liking and if The Big One does come out it’s winnable for him. FRIES WITH THAT will have plenty of admirers. Big book for W.Pike and he’s been bursting to win a race. Looks one of his better chances so far. SISTER KATE was better than it reads on paper last start. Numbers: (1) – 3 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – BIGSPIDER WIN RACE 4 WORK IN PROGRESS has always gone to the races with an expectation on her. Went around on the second line of betting on debut behind Rumour Says, ran second to Fairetha Stakes winner and WA Guineas runner-up Bustler at start two and then went round as favourite in a 3 year old 0MWLY at her last start of her previous preparation. Trial was soft and she’s shown versatility to overcome a tricky draw. JUST FOR MARCUS trialled up alongside of Boots Like Bruce. He races on Wednesday at Ascot and gives a good insight into the depth and quality of that as a trail form reference. SHETHARA has had three starts in NSW and now heads to Simon Miller in Perth. Keep safe. RENATO trialled far better this time in. Numbers: 6 – 2 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – WORK IN PROGRESS WIN RACE 5 BELLE JOURNEE went around 100-1 on debut behind Fruit Loops and Gold Keeper at Pinjarra when settling a long way off them and hitting the line well. Met with support at odds last start and ran well when second behind Call Me Violet. Steps up another 200m, has blinkers added for the first time, draws a gate and strikes an open and even mile maiden. DUN WITH THE BLUES went around $1.40 last start at Geraldton on the back of a sharp L600 at Barker when pulling late ground off subsequent winner Lucrative Lucy. Was nearly impossible to make ground that day – forgive. NOTHEAST EAGLE ran well at his first start for Anne King. MUSQUEAM ran third to Rock My Way and Feels Playful two starts ago. Numbers: 12 – 13 – 3 – 11 Suggested Bet – BELLE JOURNEE EACHWAY RACE 6 NIGHT SHIFT gets the State’s best sit and sprint rider aboard and has flashed real ability this preparation. The C1 (maiden) win was unreal from a long way off them in an extremely fast run race and then two starts later she finished second to Karalee Rocks before working to the line over 1400 behind Rockstar Status. Back to 1200 suits, ideal draw and perfect riding engagement. NO PEER is well placed by Darren McAuliffe. 3 year old Plate back to C1 is about as big a class drop as you’ll see and she had to do a fair bit of work early to get around them and it told late. WAR HYMN gets a little weight relief. She’ll pinch another soon. GINGER LOCKS finishes off late. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – NIGHT SHIFT WIN RACE 7 GALAXY AFFAIR is honest and consistent. Second to Legacy of Tara C3 1400, second to Vitalize (two-time subsequent winner) C3 1400, winner of a 58+ 1400 at Geraldton and then second to Rock My Way in a 3 year old Plate when unable to get out and moving at the 600 when caught behind a tiring runner. Always there abouts this grade and distance. RULELEE has blinkers and a senior on as well as coming back into a C3. She’s an improver. SISU WARRIOR put in his best run of the preparation to date behind Emerald Trader and gets the right run here. SATURN BLACK continues to race well. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 10 – 9 Suggested Bet – GALAXY AFFAIR WIN RACE 8 FEELS DANISH is going better than numerical form suggests. Finished third behind Truly Inspired in a 66+ 2200 two starts ago and then was knocked around at the 800 last start when looking to make a move into the race. Actually, thought she worked to the line well all things considered and now drops back into a 60+ 0MWLY. She’s only 5.4L off Coolth, Queen Alina, Mystery Island, Roch Legacy, Acting God & Truly Inspired last start. Worth consideration at likely double figures. TELL NOTHIN’ is starting to work out what racing is about and it’s paying dividends. Emerging staying type. GROUND BRAKER couldn’t go with him last start when the sprint went on but he never gave it away. TRULY RELIABLE tries hard and is far better suited in this grade. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 7 – 4 Suggested Bet – FEELS DANISH EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 3,4,11,12,13 8,9 1,2,3,4,5,9,10 2,4,6,7,8,9 Market Market
