Scott Embry’s Thursday Albany Preview Posted on January 27, 2026January 27, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 MY TEA made an encouraging return to racing over 1200m from the rear of the field in a leader dominated event behind Bannered before heading to the Great Southern where he has finished second to Nailed’em and then was held up at crucial stages when beaten narrowly by Tidwell. See no issues with a mile and typically these races get easier over ground. TANGO RHYTHM is the obvious danger with minors at her last two and a barrier to work with. She’s trying hard and gets every chance. SEA OF GALILEE has been a bit of a tease since arriving in WA. He’s an awkward moving horse who seems to loom but can’t quite finish off. BRAGGING RIGHTS showed something (small) behind God’s Cross three trials back. Numbers: 6 – 14 – 2 – 12 Suggested Bet – MY TEA WIN RACE 2 BEYOND MEASURE should be in Perth. Has had three trials and each of them were good enough to be winning a midweek maiden (or even a 3 year old 0MWLY) and should prove too classy for rivals here on debut. Always wary that these trial stars can go around unders on debut but there looks enough depth in the oppositition that hopefully he isn’t too short in betting. Time will tell but he looks good. COSMIC WALTZ went close in the Tidwell / My Tea race which is every chance of holding up as a form reference in the Opening Event. Just where does he get to from the draw? CASSENITE finished second to Great Promise fresh after sustaining a big run from the back and has been solid in two runs since. Another horror gate and not much tactical speed. RAY’S SAUCE finished third behind Lovin’ On Me and Dancing Spirit first-up over 1100m and considering he was first-up no trial he should only improve here. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – BEYOND MEASURE WIN RACE 3 FLICK THE SWITCH finished second to him last start 48 days ago and only gets a 1kg weight swing for a 1.8L margin. He’ll again stalk and importantly should get cover this time around. Think she can turn the tables now. OXBRIDGE cops 68kg but after the Giaan O’Donnell claim will carry 64 and it’s worth remembering that he led and won (by 1.8L) under 63kg on 12 December this track/distance/grade and since then has gone to a Summer Scorcher and a Mt Barker Sprint. Don’t ignore him just because of the weight impost. STORM COMMANDER has had a mid-prep trial and went super last start behind Charino and Prospector’s Pick. CATALPA has had a few homes across his career but this is the easiest race he has seen in a long while and his recent trial was handy. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – FLICK THE SWITCH WIN RACE 4 BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE put in an uncharacteristic shocker second-up when beaten 24L but that was a race where they went stupidly quick in the early and middle stages and it brought a fair few undone (all bar Deadly and Fast & Mr Popcorn). This looks a nice race for her to park midfield cover and win another one. LET’SDEAL showed something last start behind Bold Hero. He attacked the line for the first time in a while and his 66+ metro form is lengths superior to his c58+ rivals. The sticking point is 62.5kg on his back. BRAVE CONTENDER was a big improver last start at Ascot when stepping out to a more suitable trip. He is now out to the full 1900 and after the claim for Holly Nottle (already down to 1.5kg in the country) he does look well placed and well suited. PECOS is a last start winner down to 52.5kg. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 11 Suggested Bet – BEAUTIFUL BAROQUE WIN RACE 5 LADY COCO was really well found in betting at Barker and duly saluted. She looks to have turned a corner this prep and the way she’s going (and the entirety of the Indi Weinert team) you’d be brave to suggest she can’t win again. DIABLO LAD was a bit of a frustrating horse at the end of his Meryl Hayley career. He finished third in a 60+ Graduation behind Split The Gee at Belmont and then only two starts later finished out of the money at Geraldton at $1.55 in a 58+ (complete forgive albeit). Back into a C2 and a great use of the 4kg claimer. OUTLAW MUSIC led and won for trainer/rider/owner Casey E Hunter and should safely find the top again here. PURO sneaks back into a C2. She’s 58+ placed and could get under the radar a bit. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 7 – 11 Suggested Bet – LADY COCO WIN RACE 6 WHERE’S MY LUNCH was first-up, no trial over 1300 at Barker and attacked the line well behind in form galloper Secret Stones. There’s no doubt that he’ll be better here at 1500m and you must admire the versatility that he has shown over the last 12 months, winning from last, winning when leading, winning on a Good4, winning on a Heavy8. Should come on big time second-up. SIR BEAR A LOT has to take the step from C2 into 58+ grade but there was plenty to like about his win over Lordgivemestrength. CABLE BOY is now at a ratings point where he can stay in this 58+ grade and Shaun McGruddy riding from a good barrier gives him a big sniff. PRAY AGAIN is Pray Again. Trust was lost 750 days ago but he’s going well. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – WHERE’S MY LUNCH WIN RACE 7 FLYING SOUTH now gets the 1.5kg claim and that will hopefully see him go close to winning his first race of the prep. Massive fresh in a headbobbing finish behind Village Girl, solid second-up behind now Mt Barker Sprint winner Wineaclocksumwhere and then was maybe found out by the 61kg last start when parking wide throughout and fading late. Keeping the faith. SKYTALKER went very close at Barker behind a mare who has now won three on the bounce. He’s been hard to catch across his career but he’s more than capable. CHEROKEE MISS is a back-up specialist. Every time she’s on the quick spin she goes super. FIGHT IN FLIGHT won back to back C2 races in Albany before testing the waters at Ascot in a 60+ Graduation. Numbers: 3 – 4 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – FLYING SOUTH WIN RACE 8 POLYVANOVA continues to go well at Albany / Barker without pinching one. With her racing pattern it’s only a matter of time until she does. She’s rock hard fit, she’s 1850 back to 1500 and regardless of her wide gate she should be able to slide across and park up in a prominent position throughout. Deserves one and so does Giaan. TIDWELL is a 3 year old taking on the older horses and looks like the kind of SJ Wolfe galloper that will appreciate a bit of ground and will only get better and better with racing. Just may end up a fair way off them. LORDGIVEMESTRENGTH ran second to Sir Bear A Lot and then third to Pecos, who both race earlier in the day and will give a good form sighter. CAPRICIOUS RULER led and won last start but this has far more depth to it. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet – POLYVANOVA WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,2,5,11 1,2,3,6,7,11 3,4,9 3,4,7 Market Market
