Scott Embry’s Sunday Port Hedland Preview Posted on July 31, 2026July 31, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry Race 1 TAKE THE FIELD has been a bit below expectation across this preparation ability vs results wise. He finished second to My Tea and then second to Watershed Wisdom before heading to Roebourne and never really travelling at any stage when beaten 8L by Blatant Violation. Barrier 1 – never ideal, senior rider on – huge. If he can kick through to leader’s back and possibly get off the fence and travelling then he’ll can go close. DARK OPAL is stretched at the end of 1200m but she certainly has the speed to get across into a prominent spot. MINOZZA has been consistent the entire way through and can slide forward in the middle stages. HALF TIME SIREN has now put together back to back encouraging runs. Numbers: 1 – 7 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – TAKE THE FIELD WIN Race 2 IMPERIALIZE comes back to 1200m, gets a senior rider on and only needs to cross La Signora Dane and If I Din Havadime in the first 100m to find the front. He’ll be hard to run down from there and looks another good ride for a travelling Troy Turner. DENVER AFFAIR has bounced between Carnarvon, Port Hedland and Roebourne throughout the season and think this is a nice race for her on paper, especially with Tash Faithfull sticking. She’ll whip forward in the middle stages of the race and look to sustain a run and there’s a few of these who look to be struggling in the dirt still. Can bounce back. CALATHINITE jumps out and lands in a spot close handy. FAMEUX has looked a bit tired his last two? Numbers: 2 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – IMPERIALIZE WIN Race 3 PLAYING QUEST has now had two runs on the dirt for returning trainer Peter Dellar. The first-up run behind Swexan at Carnarvon was at a distance short of his best and then nothing was beating the highly promising Immortal Shield in the Harding Cup. That’s the beat form reference race in this event and he beat home Wing It by a 5L margin so happy to suggest that third start on the dirt he can break through. WING IT was beaten 13L in the Harding Cup but worth remembering SP wise he jumped shorter than Playing Quest and meets him 4kg better at the weights. Can turn the tables without surprising. PERCUSSION PRINCE beat both of them home and can roll his way to the top. Makes him a legitimate danger. LEADING TADDY is yet to reproduce his first-up run. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – PLAYING QUEST WIN Race 4 ANOTHER NEPHEW won the Marbel Bar Cup over 1600m and then finished third to Zadar Rock and Dynamic One in a 68+ 2050 before going around a $4 chance last weekend in the Roebourne Cup. Not convinced he stays and so coming back to 1600m in my eyes is a big plus and obvious being back to 56+ grade is also a luxury. He’s the proven horse, the class runner and he’s hard to beat in this. HUNDRED YARDS nearly toppled Only Us at Carnarvon but then didn’t fire a shot at Roebourne as beaten favourite. MY DE GRECE nearly beat Mystical Man at 70-1 three back and ran another ripper at odds last week. BIG KARRI found the top in a C1 last weekend and never looked like stopping. Simply must jump. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – ANOTHER NEPHEW WIN Race 5 ROYALZEL looks to be timing his run really well into the Richardson Sprint. He gets a 1kg weight swing to try and turn the tables on Galaxy Affair from last start and think from the draw he’ll get a lovely run tracking into the race just off a decent tempo. Looks like the right map for him to take out the sprinting feature. BORDER CONTROL lost his way early in the season but Timo Pike has him back to somewhere near his best. Confidence boosting win at Roebourne last week and is a 5x winner at this track. He is also one of the rare horses who can draw 1, sit midfield, cop kickback and still sprint home late. GALAXY AFFAIR has been a great acquisition and addition to the NW racing scene. 64.5kg didn’t stop him three back so why can’t he win with 63.5? HIT THE JACKPOT can give cheek in front. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – ROYALZEL WIN Race 6 MANAVENDRA and ZADAR ROCK went head to head in the home straight last weekend in the Roebourne Cup and Zadar Rock came away to win by nearly 3L on the line. 8 days later they clash in the Port Hedland Cup and with a 1.5kg weight swing and another run of dirt experience under this belt, thinking that MANAVENDRA can turn the tables. He can slide into the race from the 600 and hopefully pinch a winning lead on the turn. ZADAR ROCK will need to lump 63kg from last to win but he’s more than capable of doing so. He’s returned in outstanding order and is just a dirt freak. What a horse. DYNAMIC ONE can roll to the top but whether he runs out a strong 2200 is possibly a query? GAMBLERS GOLD brings the Broome form and looks ready to win one of these Cups. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – MANAVENDRA WIN Race 7 TASSORT WE WANT won a C3 1400 only three starts ago beating Another Nephew. That run would see him winning this. Since then he has settled rearwards and been unable to get into the race at any stage. Hopefully Jess Gray can get him to step so he can settle up a bit closer? Wide open race to finish and one of many chances. RAY’S SAUCE won well at Marble Bar, was a solid effort under a 4kg claimer in a C1 at Port Hedland and then bolted in a C3 at Roebourne against a similar level of opposition extending away from key rival Esquel late in the race. Wide draw and 61kg are certainly hurdles. MISSILE GIRL ran third in this grade three back, ran second in a 56+ at Marble Bar and then ran into a flying Immortal Shield last start. Going well enough to win this. ESQUEL leads but tends to get a bit vulnerable late in her races. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – TASSORT WE WANT WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,4,7 1,2,4 1,3 1,3,4,5,6,7 Market Market
