Race 1

NEARCO FROD is an improving import beating up moderate opposition in the midweek metro meets, he’s done so off tricky maps and draws well. The lack of speed only concern. BLACK RUN will take up the lead and get it soft, back in trip may help, needs it wet. OUR CHIEF had favours on speed at Caulfield winning and finds a similar type of set-up, easy to like in this. BLUESTONE, SHULTZY and STOP THE ROCK all have claims.

Race 2

Even contest for the recently turned 3YO’s which has been a theme for this crop. They should go quick early with debut winner COVERT ACTION, SUPERBEC and THE TROUBLESHOOTER. Straight track experience is important and the wayward EUROCANTO will have fans, ordinary last campaign, gelded, needed to see more at the jumpouts to say he can recapture early season form. RUBARE for the hot Nick Ryan stable won a weak C1 at Morph, the straight line experience helps.

Race 3

Tough race. Key chances were beaten by Saint George at Flemington last start. Speed is ok, CHIEF LITTLE ROCK and GLORY HAZE look the two to take it up early. SMOKIN ROMANS chased gamely when no match for the winner in that key form reference and draws a great marble to go one better. He’s top pick for the hot Johnstone/Maher combo. Respect the stablemate GLORY DAZE if left alone, another with an important 2kg claim. SEE THAT STORM third-up ready to fire, another to map in the right spot.

Race 4

Keen on KAHHOF repeating his Sandown win, had the market support and found the gun run under Emily Pozman and looks to find something similar in this race with a partial class drop. FEAR NO EVIL couldn’t lead in a pressure race behind Kahhof, expecting a softer run on-speed using the inside draw. EL TERCERO had to win with the blessed run he enjoyed at Mildura, concede he’s going well but this is much stronger. DARKBONNEE loves it at Flem, class animal, bad draw.

Race 5

Genuine speed. TAKEKO and BRILLIANT HORIZON go forward, PROVEN SOUL may come across and landing in behind them with a perfect run is STEALTH OF NIGHT. She was poorly-placed fresh and had a tough run finding them too slick at 1100m. Looks a big improver second-up with all favours in the run from the draw. CHERISH ME and SALIZOU are the obvious threats following each other home last start, the latter defied a big SP to score and make it two in a row, she’s hard to fault, the draw is a shocker.

Race 6

TOUCHDOWN was enormous fresh at Sandown and Blake Shinn can have him closer to the speed from a wide gate second-up. Clear horse to beat and best of the day. If the pattern is on-speed KALEO can give a big sight rolling out in front, been up a while but holding form. Wary of stablemate SHOCKLETZ. CASTLE ON HIGH loves the big tracks and handles soft ground, ordinary draw makes his task even harder.

Race 7

The leader is STAR PATROL. On it’s back is FANCIFY and they jumped out together at Cranbourne, the latter looked to go just as well and has a fitness edge after disappointing last start in the Leilani final 1400m, think she finish over the top at a price. WAR MACHINE has been ok at the jumpouts, his best wins the race and loves the straight, need to see him do it. Stablemate ARKANSAW KID also in winning contention.

Race 8

Going with the hard fit DUCHESS ZOU with a perfect draw deep into her prep to beat the star filly SASS APPEAL who is well-weighted and another with a soft draw to run out a strong 1400m, jumpouts have been ok but needed to see more for a deep race. RISE AT DAWN looks an improving horse second-up and either leads or sits outside. Back on the inside is RUN HARRY RUN, saved for late and should be hitting the line hard.

Race 9

JUST LIKE GABY is a good fresh horse and may have found her preferred good track in the middle of winter to resume on a winning note, handled the heavy ok leading up a strong heat at Cranbourne and should be ready to go against some battle weary oppo. Stablemate NAVAL ACADEMY is fitter and appreciates firmer footing, yet to win up the straight but likely drawn the right spot late in the day. CHARMED RUN getting blinkers on creates interest, a form turnaround is possible. And the enigma MOBY DICK can win if he’s on his game.
