Scott Embry’s Sunday Kalgoorlie Preview

RACE 1

QUIET GODDESS resumed at Ascot over 1110m when getting too far out of her ground beaten 4L behind Melody Fair (Desert Ora fourth, now a maiden and C2 winner in Albany) before stepping into a 1300m when breezing and beaten 3L by Land of Nod. They ran along throughout in that event and thought all things considered she battled on okay. This is clearly easier and this is a very evenly contested maiden. ROYAL GUARDIAN has blinker added and has attacked the line well at her last two. She’s drawn to land a pair closer than last start and that can be the difference in these lowly maidens. I’M COOL TWO went around a $3.60 chance on debut. Shades straight on. MAD SPITFIRE has been solid in back to back minors and is getting closer.

Numbers: 6 – 7 – 4 – 1

Suggested Bet – QUIET GODDESS EACHWAY

RACE 2

JOYHOUSE ROCK went out 25-1 on debut off the back of an 1100m barrier trial where she finished just under 1.5L off 70+ stablemate Pearly Nugget and went down by the narrowest of margins. On that occasion she drew 1, settled box seat and nearly won. At her second start she’s again drawn 1, should again box seat and hopefully this time around can break through early in her career. MOJO MIO headed to the races off only a 400m jump out and was vulnerable late. Considering he jumped $2.10 there’s no doubt he was disappointing but he should improve big time fitness wise. MAHLER’S MELODY can show a bit of speed and looked good in her first public appearance for new trainer Mack Hall.

DEEPLY ROOTED has been kept safe in betting all season but is yet to really justify the support?

Numbers: 9 – 6 – 8 – 4

Suggested Bet – JOYHOUSE ROCK WIN

RACE 3

SPANGLEDSTAR is loving life on the Goldfields. She sat parked wide throughout to break her maiden at 1200m and then backed it up with a fast finishing second to Military Action beating home rivals Buon Amici, Whatyoutalkinbout and Bondi Star in the process. Seems to run for Jefferson Tsang who is starting to really emerge as a country apprentice to follow with his 2kg claim. JAYASHREE was a test of patience for punters last season when she threatened to win races but loomed without finishing off. Fresh run was excellent behind Stylin’ and draws much better second-up. COULDABEENAHANDBAG has finished in the money at three of her last four and is knocking on the door. BUON AMICI is drawn the outside but should get across to at least breeze.

Numbers: 5 – 3 – 7 – 2

Suggested Bet – SPANGLEDSTAR WIN

RACE 4

STYLIN’ has displayed a really big turn of acceleration at her last two wins and thinking with a 6.5kg pull in the weights over her stablemate and main danger Lavish Charm that she can make a race of this coming up in grade. Will concede him a headstart but she’s getting better and better with every run. LAVISH CHARM is the class. He has won his last four in a line spanning across two preparations since arriving at Cambana Lodge. Wasn’t exactly convincing first-up at $1.20 when Lucy had to pull the stick and does rise to 60.5kg so he might be vulnerable late? DREAMERS NEVER DIE is 3/4 at the Kalgoorlie 1200 and goes well fresh. GIBRALTAR GOLD gives Peter Fernie a genuine sniff at a quartet in this Heat and is savaging the line.

Numbers: 7 – 1 – 2 – 3

Suggested Bet – STYLIN’ WIN

RACE 5

I’M GENEVIEVE just needs to be forgiven for one outlier run behind Nature’s Reckoning 77 days ago to be the one to beat here. After breaking her maiden at Kalgoorlie on debut by 3L she has contested a 3 year old 0MWLY (second to WA Guineas Placed Rock Fest), a 3 year old Saturday behind Our Naughty Secret and WA Breeders/Challenge Stakes winner Playin’ It Sweet and a C1 behind Pinjarra Magic Millions placed Hubble’s Dragon. Great form for a Kalgoorlie C2. IDEALLY should be a nice mare for the region and is well placed back into a C2, however, likely needs further than the 1200. SLIPPERY FISH may look for the lead in shades. FIERY PANZ reads up like D.Hinchliffe’s bowling for the Two Blues: 1/55 (off three) – but is actually going quite well.

Numbers: 6 – 1 – 5 – 9

Suggested Bet – I’M GENEVIEVE WIN

RACE 6

JUST FAMOUS has now won three on the bounce across two preps and his fresh run was dominant. From the draw he’ll get every chance to step up into 70+ grade and the way that Holly Nottle is going you’d be brave to suggest he isn’t the one to beat. Attacks this 28 days between runs to keep the freshness in his legs. PRAWNS ELEVEN is a great horse for these c70+ races. Realistically, on ability, he belongs in town at Ascot/Belmont in 66+ races, but using the claims Brock Lewthwaite is keeping him in the country area. Barrier 8/11, now up to 61.5kg after the claim – he’ll need to be at his best to beat the likes of Just Famous, Sure Thing and Close at Hand. SURE THING is always hard to run down, especially fresh. CLOSE AT HAND went to a new level for Peter Fernie last prep.

Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 2

Suggested Bet – JUST FAMOUS WIN

RACE 7

SPACE ACADEMY was a good thing beat at Lark Hill. Still hard to believe that after being completely stopped in his tracks and aggressively skipped across heels at right angles to get clear galloping room that he somehow got within a short head of victory. Always wary of the ‘luckless horse’ being over-bet but Mack Hall has him going undeniably well. MONTY ZOOMER is the perfect 4kg claimer type horse. He jumps, he runs and allows them to use the claim to full advantage. Jason Li has only had a handful of rides but looks good in the saddle very early in his career and if he can cross them early then he’ll be in front for a long way again. MILITARY ACTION bolted in last start and for a horse who arrived a 20 start maiden he’s done a great job since coming to Kal. HIGH PRECISION continues to really attack the line and is finally drawn a gate.

Numbers: 6 – 3 – 5 – 9

Suggested Bet – SPACE ACADEMY WIN
