RACE 1

NEW HYMN SHEET has now had two runs in Kalgoorlie and clearly improved last start when pulling late ground off well supported winner Ellovaman. Blinkers go on, Tash Faithfull sticks and she’s drawn to get every chance in a typically thin maiden. Going to end up very short in the market considering the depth (lack thereof) of opposition. PRINCE OF BONDI is 4 weeks between runs and back in trip and yet still probably looms the biggest threat? THROW ME A KISS can show some speed and that helps her chances. NEK MINNIT was very wide and wayward at Northam.

RACE 2

RIPPER RUPERT was thrown in the deep end last start into a 3 year old Saturday when beaten 6.5L by Country God. That’s the Hasani form line from Wednesday at Belmont and the punters were spot on backing him successfully. This is lengths weaker and he was scratched Thursday to save for this. MISS COURAGEOUS trialled really well behind now C1 winner Star Supreme at Belmont and then led at 1300m on debut when beaten 3L by Swift Talker. Into a country maiden and looks a main player. AMIRA GIRL really caught the eye last start. KING OF FRANCE finds another new home as he searches for that illusive first career win at start number 31.

RACE 3

JUST FAMOUS hasn’t been seen for 59 days since charging over the top of rivals in a C3 at Northam. Looks yet another really nice ex-Peters Investments type for Peter Fernie and Andrew Inglis and he now drops back in grade into a Country C2. Excellent placement, excellent form and we’ve seen this set up previously with great success. CHIPILLY has kicked for home and looked the winner at her last two before hitting a big brick wall with 75m to go. Back to 1200 may be perfect? BLITZEM BABE is the way that Tash Faithfull goes and that’s normally a good indicator. CALL TIME found the line really well last start.

THE JESTER’S SON has had a consistent start to his WA career and think this is a nice opportunity for him to come out positive underneath of likely pacemaker Please Mizter and land into a really handy spot. Even race and looks one of many chances. PLEASE MIZTER just never stopped last start. Again expecting that Holly Nottle will look for the front and allow him to free stride out in front. CANGGU brings alternate form through the dirt at Broome but was a handy provincial type on the grass for Dylan Bairstow 12 months ago. ABBOU seems to go better at Kalgoorlie than anywhere else.

GIBRALTAR ROCK was super last start. Yes, the leader was stopping very quickly so there was some level of relativity to the visually impressive nature of the win, but still – that was the win of a horse who could clear C2 grade and work through 58+ areas. Expecting she’ll be very hard to beat again. DATE WITHTHE DEVIL is nearly out of chances. Only reason he’s not already in the bin is because Lucy Fiore jumps aboard this time around. Becoming very hard to trust/follow. HAND ME DOWN finished only 3L off Decoration two back in a 64+ and now has blinkers on back in trip/grade. RELIABLE IMAGE hasn’t fired since her maiden win.

SECRET ATTRACTION had a wonderful season in 2023/24 when joining Peter Fernie and is now likely being aimed up at a tilt at the Hannans Handicap. First-up, no trial, 61kg over a distance well short of her best but really do think the form lines that she brings are still good enough to win this. 1.4L off Generosity in a Sheila Gwynne at 1400m is super? SURE THING will need to burn the candle at both ends up that’s how he does his racing and he was winning The Goldrush from a long way out. INFLUENCING is looking to do the Kambalda Cup – Coolgardie Sprint double. SNOW PRINCE looks well weighted after the 4kg claim.

RACE 7

GINGER BAKER is the class horse. At the end of last campaign, having gone through the winter WFA series, he won the SW Autumn Cup over 2200m – remarkable for a then 7 year old who had previously only won to a mile. First-up this preparation he finished third to Phanta and Fluro Neuro (favourite in the Farnley Stakes at Belmont Saturday) at WFA and now only rises 1kg going into a Coolgardie Cup. Has to be hard to beat? SENTIMENTAL HERO carried 60kg first-up in the Blue Spec and didn’t trial leading into it. Local who will be very popular and very hard to beat in all the Cups over the Traditional Annual. BE OPTIMISTIC will be getting warm late. DECORATION is a Kalgoorlie specialist, 3/3.

RACE 8

THE LIONS’ GATE has now won two of his last four and both have been really strong. The first of them he was no better than three deep the trip and last start he made ground on a day where the leaders dominated the meeting. Can lead, can sit, like the way he’s going and with an abundance of speed expect that he’ll take the trail. BOAB’S BOY drops out of The Goldrush when only 1.3L adrift of Sure Thing and Secret Style, with that form on show in the Coolgardie Sprint. TWIST OF GOLD has certainly come back stronger as a 5 year old. She was once a bit weak late, now she’s finding under pressure. SUNSHINE TAFE sits back and has one last crack at them.
