Scott Embry’s Sunday Geraldton Preview Posted on October 13, 2023October 13, 2023 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SPEED BUBBLE returned to Geraldton at the opening meeting and was a massive improver first-up to second-up finishing third behind Patchwork in a 56+. Now drops into a C2 and after the ZJP claim only carries 59kg which against this opposition looks a very winnable weight. Has options from barrier 1 and if he sees daylight expect him to prove very hard to beat. GEORGE GENTLY worked hard in the early and middle stages but also put up the white flag big time and was beaten 13L. CAPE PRIDE is trying hard but his form is all on the dirt. VIVAROK was a sound return to racing. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – SPEED BUBBLE WIN RACE 2 KIMBERLEY CURRENCY was extremely popular with punters in at the opening meeting but was only fair when running fourth beaten 1.8L. Considering that jump and run against the fence was the pattern and play of the meeting he was an under performer but where there’s smoke, there’s fire and we’ll follow that money trail into this outing out of respect for the volume that came his way. RUN RUPI RUN won a Lark Hill trial over 950 and is lightly raced. Went around even money in a maiden back in December 2022 at Stony Creek. THE SLAP has his first run in WA and brings intrigue, especially without a trial. MOONIEMIA showed a glimpse in the trial. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – KIMBLERLEY CURRENCY WIN RACE 3 STAY ASTERN was huge at his return to racing and Julia Martin debut. He was posted deep throughout from the wide gate and just kept coming down the centre of the track. In review he was one of the only horses at the meeting to make a sweeping run like that and so from the more favourable draw he looks the one to beat. ROMANTIC RULER and DENZOE were both beaten fair and square by a mare who went around 50-1 and had been racing at Mt Magnet and Carnarvon. Big query on that form. EXALTED ROCKSTAR an improver onto the grass. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – STAY ASTERN WIN RACE 4 PATCHWORK and SPECIAL SORT were both impressive winners at the opening meeting at the GTC and look likely to fight out the finish of this 1400m event. Given that Patchwork won a 56+ and Special Sort won a C1 and they meet at the exact same weights here it’s hard not to side up with PATCHWORK from a ratings and handicapping perspective. SPECIAL SORT is the lightly raced 4 year old on the rise and it would be no surprise to see him sail down the centre to victory. Looks progressive for the region. DELAGO DEHERO can give cheek. MYSTERY MAN is normally around the place. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – PATCHWORK WIN RACE 5 LUCKLEE FLORAN was held tight for the majority of the home straight first-up with 60.5kg and was unable to really build momentum at any stage in the home straight. Second-up he drops 1kg and this race looks thinner considering the fact that Special Sort heads straight to a C5 and could well frank the form in Race 4. Keen to follow up on him. RUSSIAN SNIPER has the ability to win this but he seems to mix his form. COPPING POINTS is always going close but doesn’t win out of turn. Good trial before the opening meeting. BOLD PROPHET has a much needed 2kg claim considering the barrier he’s drawn. Numbers: 3 – 9 – 11 – 1 Suggested Bet – LUCKEE FLORAN WIN RACE 6 SIGNIFICANT HERO is a horse who has historically done his best first-up. He’s drawn barrier 1 and likely ends up three back the fence but with a split at the right time he can give this a shake without surprising and he usually goes round eachway. Won this track/distance/grade back in March impressively. MOCHA DREAM is drawn a lemon and will need the right run into the race from the wide draw. If it’s on speed and on fence like it was at the opening meeting then he’ll be up against it. The form out of his trial win at Lark Hill is electric but the map is a real concern. ALBERT comes back in distance and up in grade. Tough combo. AGENT JAY is well suited to these c58+ races. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 8 – 2 Suggested Bet – SIGNIFICANT HERO EACHWAY RACE 7 PASSPORT was the one the punters wanted first-up in the 70+ 1113 won by Arabian Riches. He needs to turn the tables on the winner, the runner-up and the third horse who he meets again here but now he’s drawn barrier 2 rather than barrier 10 and he was forced to do plenty of work and never gave it away in that key form reference race. BOMBAY STYLE lumped the full 62.5kg and went down fighting. Claim should help a lot. LONG WEEKEND is better than what he’s currently producing. ARABIAN RICHES was excellent fresh but now has more weight and a wide draw. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – PASSPORT WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,4 3,9,11 2,5,6,8,10 1,3,5,6,8,10 Market Market
