Scott Embry’s Sunday Albany Preview

RACE 1

FLYING FLYNN didn’t fire a solitary shot in three runs for his previous trainer, however, 66 days later he has lobbed in Albany with Sam Faithfull who has a knack of improving these tried types out of nowhere and that’s again on show with the 1L barrier trial win over key rival Close Call. Looking deeper this may have been Sam’s horse the whole time, just bouncing around different trainers in the metro area? Going to trust the process and suggest that he can bounce into this event and run a race. SPARTAN LASS has a Yarra Valley placing after leading. Speedy, fresh and drawn well. Market best guide. CLOSE CALL And CRASHED AND BURNED both trialled up well enough and both have the necessary speed to overcome tricky gates in a race that doesn’t contain anything that jumps off the page.

Numbers: 1 – 9 – 4 – 3

Suggested Bet – FLYING FLYNN WIN

RACE 2

LONG REIGN makes her WA debut as a locally bred mare who started her career in Victoria. In her recent barrier trial she ran a solid second to Perfectly Proper (Magic Millions Placed filly) and the Brandon-Lucy Fiore combination have been enjoying their road trips down to Albany all season. Big watch at her WA debut. GOD’LL GETYA looked home for all money last start until the odds on favourite started to weave a passage through traffic and ultimately zapped him in the final strides. He drew barrier 1 last time out, kicked up, led and nearly won. The interesting part here from barrier 10 is just how far across Natika can get early? Especially with a speedy type like Starchaser drawn underneath. GINGER CAT beat Special Counsel (races Monday at Pinjarra) in a trial and had no luck on debut. STARCHASER should be right up on speed for a long way.

Numbers: 7 – 2 – 8 – 6

Suggested Bet – LONG REIGN WIN

RACE 3

ETERNALLY YOURS should be breaking through here. First-up finished 5.5L off Brave Dragon in a 1200m maiden at Albany and then second-up was thrown into a C2 and finished a narrow second to Gingers Sister. Back into maiden company he actually drops 2kg and should be getting the job done. Looks like he’ll be odds on? GILDED REIGN ran well at Pinjarra on the Scarpside behind Effortlessly and she’ll be well respected herself that filly in a C1 1500 at Pinjarra on Monday. Logical danger heading down to the country. BELLE OF BONDI was kept safe in betting on debut and had to do it far too tough. SEA OF GALILEE has run out of chances.

Numbers: 2 – 3 – 9 – 1

Suggested Bet – ETERNALLY YOURS WIN

RACE 4

AURORA QUEEN is a last start C1 1600m winner at Pinjarra on the Scarpside and this looks an ideal C2 country 1600 for her to go back to back. That race had more depth than this and with only 2.5kg more weight on her back expect that she’ll pack far too many punches late for her Great Southern opposition. Has to be ridden cold so may settle 6th or 7th in running but she’s got a decent turn of foot for this grade. BIT TIRED ACTUALLY broke her maiden over 1500m and then was never in the contested over 1900. Like her back in distance. DIABLO LAD put in his best run of his Sam Faithfull career behind Gingers Sister and beat home key rival WIN TO RETIRE in the process. WIN TO RETIRE has visors removed and worth remembering was backed into favouritism last start in the Gingers Sister race.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 1 – 5

Suggested Bet – AURORA QUEEN WIN

RACE 5

WILUNA LASS is dropping from a 3 year old Saturday into a C2 at Albany. Snitzalatte, Swingman, Slip The Jab – they’re 10L better horses than these rivals and hopefully here Lucy Fiore is able to find the front without working as hard as she did last start when going toe to toe with Swingman for the first 400m. Lucy Fiore is the only person to have won on her previously and that makes her hard to run down. REGGIO CALABRIA just keeps turning up. Beside that one bizarre performance behind Time Connection he has been right amongst the action for what feels like an eternity. Deep into a campaign but continuing to run big races. ORDER ONLINE is part of the travelling Webster Team and this is far easier than the Westspeed Platinum he comes through. AUTOFOCUS was solid last start behind Perfect Sister in a high rating C2.

Numbers: 4 – 1 – 3 – 7

Suggested Bet – WILUNA LASS WIN

RACE 6

MASAMUNE bounced back to form last start in a Heat of the Provincial Series at York when incredibly well placed by trainer Darren McAuliffe and this is no different. He’s raced in 72+, 66+, 60+ Graduation and 0MWLY races at Ascot/Belmont for the vast majority of his career and these country ratings races are ideal for him. He was ridden for speed that day and really appreciated it so expect that CJP will bounce him out and put him into the contest nice and early here. HEAD’EM was on trial at 1500m and ran well into second behind Uni Queen (Races at Ascot on Saturday) and the way he’s going he’ll handle being back to 1100m no worries. STORM COMMANDER has been a model of consistency his entire career. PRINCE was taken up to Perth last weekend and wasn’t disgraced either beaten 3.5L by Kings Court.

Numbers: 5 – 3 – 2 – 7

Suggested Bet – MASAMUNE WIN

RACE 7

FLYING SOUTH has been a staple of this preview over the last 2 years and this looks a really nice race for him on paper. They’ll turn the speed on so hopefully that will allow an in form Rocky Cheung room to move in the middle stages and if he runs to the level that saw him win the Mt Barker version of this Series or the 1L defeat behind Play Dice then he’ll be hard to hold out late. BRAVE APACHE was too quick for them last start at 1240, and that was in a race that had plenty of early speed and pressure too, including NICCY’S AFFAIR who he meets again here. They can again control the race as a pairing. MISTER RAFFLES has always had huge X-Factor about him. A set of shades could be interesting.

Numbers: 2 – 7 – 8 – 9

Suggested Bet – FLYING SOUTH EACHWAY

RACE 8

DEADLY AND FAST has run in two Jericho Cup Qualifiers and has finished in the money on both occasions, including winning this race in 2025 by 3.4L. Going into the race last year he was coming off a 7L defeat in the Albany Cup and this time around he’s coming off a 7L defeat at Ascot (after running 4th only 3L off them in the Albany Cup). You’d have to say he’s going just as well, if not better this time around and he’ll be eachway. AUDIO BOY is a perennial placegetter, now having finished in the money at his last 10 without winning. You know what you’ll get – he’ll be right place, right time! CHEYNE BAY is the full brother to a horse who won at Group One Level over 2400m. No doubt this has been a target race for him.  SAVORSKI looks like a 3100m horse. He’ll sit back, be ridden patiently and be winding up late.

Numbers: 3 – 4 – 5 – 12

Suggested Bet – DEADLY AND FAST EACHWAY

RACE 9

MAKIN PROPHETS is all of a sudden quite trustworthy. He won three on the bounce before Alan Smith took him up to Perth where he finished only 2.2L behind Fifth Essence in a slowly run 1600m race dominated from the front of the field. He was out the back and ran home really impressively into sixth and now returns to his home track where he’s a 3x winner in this grade against very similar opposition. WHERE’S MY LUNCH can kick through to lead and if they leave him alone for too long he’ll be kicking hard into the corner. LOOKS is ready now. He gets a 1.5kg weight swing on Makin Prophets for a 2.2L defeat and has had another fitness building run since. PRAY AGAIN has been up and down in distance across the preparation and while he just doesn’t win races, he runs a lot of minors.

Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 2

Suggested Bet – MAKIN PROPHETS WIN
