Scott Embry’s Sunday Albany Preview Posted on January 3, 2025January 3, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 G’DAY BLOKE won a ‘no race’ at Narrogin first-up, ran second to Pingers when doing plenty wrong second-up and then last start finished fourth behind subsequent winner Cosmic Sprit, Point of Conflict and subsequent winner Foxmania. Does a lot wrong but is knocking on the door. BUSY FINGERS settled a long way off them on debut at Bunbury and that’s not a winnable position most of the time. His trials suggested he was above average so he should be running well here. SAILORALONG ran good races in his initial preparation. BOX A LOT improved nicely at her most recent trial. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – G’DAY BLOKE WIN RACE 2 SETAGAYA really caught the eye late on debut. She was a long way off the leaders on straightening in a race dominated on speed by subsequent C1 winner Chino La Diva and she was one of very few to make any noticeable ground. We’ve even seen the third place getter in Alabama Elegance run well since to make the form look even better. I LOVE LUCY A LOT went around a well supported favourite last start but was no match for Foxmania. CHEST OUT SWAGGED is yet to reproduce his 2 year old form. GREAT DEAL next best. Numbers: 10 – 7 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – SETAGAYA WIN RACE 3 BEST OF THE GODS ran third behind Song Cycle and Stormy’s Show first-up and that form should be holding up. Song Cycle is in career best form for new trainer Bec Bayliss, Stormy’s Show has only been to the races twice and looks well above average. Shaun McGruddy on and drawn to get all the favours. FOXMANIA has had two starts in WA for new trainer Indianna Weinert and they’ve both been excellent. The maiden win was dominant and this is the ideal stepping stone. SIRIUS STORM promised a lot at trials but hasn’t really lived up to it. SONG STORY a watch fresh. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 3 Suggested Bet – BEST OF THE GODS WIN RACE 4 CHEYNE BAY should be ready third-up. Resumed in a 3 year old Plate before heading to a 58+ at Geraldton second-up and now third-up drops into a C2 mile. Back in grade, Lucy Fiore back on, 3 year old against the older horses – there’s quite a lot to like about him. SIR BEAR A LOT bullied his way into the clear before straightening last start so he could be put into the race. Peaked late. SECRET STONES got the job done in a head bobber last start. FIGHT IN FLIGHT was the mare flying at him in that photo. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – CHEYNE BAY WIN RACE 5 STATE OF FURY looks well placed by the travelling Darren McAuliffe. After winning at York four back she has finished second in a C3 1600 and second in a C5 1600, both formlines which would see her hard to beat in a 58+ at Albany. She broke her maiden at this track, she’s got the in form rider of the State aboard and looks hard to beat. MAGNABURMA finished a narrow second to Antique Queen last start and she went around under $5 in a 60+ Graduation at her next outing. STRIKING FELLA scratched Thursday to save for this. SHOULDER PATCH can sprint well fresh. Numbers: 5 – 4 – 6 – 8 Suggested Bet – STATE OF FURY WIN RACE 6 FLYING SOUTH is a nice horse. He’s had 6 starts and finished in the money at 5 of 6 and there looks like there’s plenty of improvement to come with him. This looks the campaign where he is going to work his way right through the grades in Albany and he might even find himself in Perth at some stage. Worth following. MOCHA DREAM is a nice benchmark animal for him, because he’s proven himself to be a handy enough 60+ Grad type over the years. SONG CYCLE is going super this prep. AUDREY GRACE is not an easy mare to follow. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 12 – 7 Suggested Bet – FLYING SOUTH WIN RACE 7 COOL MEMORY has clearly had a set back and that’s a definite concern / red flag, the bars go on the fronts and he hasn’t raced since 30 November, however, we’re going to get eachway about a horse who has finished a luckless third to Generosity and Joker’s Grin fresh and is a Listed 3 year old winner. Risk vs Reward. BAYEZID went on a hit and run mission to Geraldton to take out the Batavia Sprint and trainer Tiarnna Noske has been treading water with him ever since just waiting to get thim to Albany for the Fitzpatrick. LONSDALEITE grew wings last start at Ascot and won brilliantly. AVOIDANCE can bounce on the bunny and lead them for a long way. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 11 – 8 Suggested Bet – COOL MEMORY EACHWAY RACE 8 CATCH THESE HANDS is the class runner and while he has 61.5kg on his back this looks a very similar set up to the race at Bunbury two back where he drew barrier 1, settled leader’s back and had a late dip at the leader in Idyllic Ruler. This is a really even race and with the right run his quality can see him through. KING’S PARADE can bounce back in this grade. QUEEN NARDI is better than her Walkaway Cup run. ODDONEOUT loves running a place, she’s just not big on winning races. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – CATCH THESE HANDS WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 4,5 1,5 2,3,5,8,11,14 1,4,6,7,9,14 Market Market
