Scott Embry’s Sunday Albany Preview Posted on April 1, 2021April 1, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BRAZEN ARROW ran third first-up after being the target of a strong betting move. William Pike takes over riding duties from a claiming apprentice and from the ideal draw should be afforded every mortal hope. If he’s any good he should break through. DANTORIO gets weight relief with Holly Watson going on. Had her fair share of chances but going well. ROCK OF KAHA should roll to the top and from there is hard to run down. ODDONEOUT has shown glimpses at trials (when she has loaded). Fingers crossed they can iron out her issues. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – BRAZEN ARROW WIN RACE 2 MATERIAL WITNESS was fairly stiff on debut when finishing fifth behind Shock Result and Heels A Plenty. Start number two ran second behind Miss Aligned and beat home subsequent winners Nobellity and Olden. Recent trial was as good as Image Keeper who got the job done at Bunbury on Wednesday and the 1000m Pinjarra trial was effortless. Short and sweet. BABURIZZA has the speed to hold a prominent position in running from the inside draw and run a race fresh. TSAHEYLU has gone alright at trials recently in the Great Southern. WE WONDER WHY was crunched at Esperance first-up but is yet to fire at the races. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 9 – 7 Suggested Bet – MATERIAL WITNESS WIN RACE 3 FREQUENT FRIAR, CLASSIC ROGUE and CATCHYA CATCHYA amazingly all come from separate races which were all run ~5L faster than class average. Should set up for a great contest and a hot form reference to follow into the later stages of the Albany season. Siding with FREQUENT FRIAR who looks to have turned a corner since joining Justin Warwick. Beaten a nose two starts ago and last time out was dragged back behind tiring runners before getting out late and catching the eye. CLASSIC ROGUE has always promised to deliver what he did two starts ago and then was doing his best late in a race in town. CATCHYA CATCHYA won impressively last start and should get a near identical run in transit. CREZEE will be winding up a fair way from home. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – FREQUENT FRIAR WIN RACE 4 TAMPERING FALLS looks perfectly placed by the in form Bredon Fitz-Gerald yard. Second in a 58+ at Albany behind Dynamite Bay, winner by 4L at Geraldton over Bitovemu and Midnight Rocket and then got back on a day where it was impossible to make ground at Bunbury and was one of the few to make notable inroads. Strikes a race where the majority are either out of form or on their mark. Keen. LOKI almost pinched it last start when attempting to lead throughout. If they allow him to cross it’s game on. AMELIE ARGOT is super consistent and should go well from the draw. SHESAPOCKET ROCKET needs to be saved for one last crack at them. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 9 Suggested Bet – TAMPERING FALLS WIN RACE 5 ROGUES POINT has been a source of frustration since arriving in WA. Has had 9 runs in WA (1x 66+, 2x 60+ Graduations, 2x C5, 2x C3 and 2x C1) with this far and away his easiest assignment to date. Seems like Justin Warwick is still trying to figure him out and decide whether he is a sprinter or a stayer. Once a m67 rater who should be finally breaking his WA duck in this Great Southern 1230. CAPTAIN SHARMANE took the step from maiden company well at her most recent and Lucy Warwick has either abandoned ship on Rogues Point or elected to ride for Roy Rogers. AYASHA is never far from the action and is well weighted after the claim. BLONDE WARRIOR comes from a stable who can produce them first-up no trial. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 11 – 5 Suggested Bet – ROGUES POINT WIN RACE 6 POTENT SECRET is awfully hard to knock. He still lumps 60.5kg after the 3kg claim for Holly Watson but with the way he is going and the barrier draw advantage he holds over numerous rivals he looks very hard to beat. 13th run of the preparation, rising 11 year old, but racing in tremendous form. Trust the old boy and #Roy. APOLLO drops 6kg coming back into this grade. With the right run he’s the testing material. TRANSGRESSOR is well placed into 70+ company in the country. Super consistent type. SWEET ANGELINE didn’t have anything go her way at her WA debut. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 2 – 10 Suggested Bet – POTENT SECRET WIN RACE 7 MAROCCHINO looks the winner on paper in the 2021 Wellington & Reeves Albany Cup. Willie Pike heads down to the Great Southern and teams up with an in form Lou Luciani and in form stayer. In a race without real tempo Pike can roll to the top and control the race with Marocchino. On the 8 day back up from a dominant display in a 72+ in town this is tremendous placement by the yard. Whatever beats him wins the Cup. PUSH TO PASS is always a danger in these country cups. Will need a big ride from a trick draw but Ryan Hill is a natural at getting himself into and out of sticky situations. TOUCH OF SILVER is kept fresh and comes off a fitness trial mid-prep. Ticking over well and can make a race of it. HE’S A PARKER turned back the clock in the SW Cup when finishing off like his old self. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – MAROCCHINO WIN RACE 8 FEELS HOT will be all the rage in the last. 8 runs in his life he has never finished outside the first 4. Since breaking his maiden in style five starts ago he has finished in the money and within three quarters of a length of the winner every time. Never had a senior rider in his life and now has the States premier hoop W.Pike aboard. Looks a huge day for the Wiz. AWESOME AS was a little below her consistent best last start. She should bounce back from the ideal draw. WAR CLASS is drawn soft and talented enough to win this and better. LONG KNIFE BROTHER is near impossible to catch. Quaddie inclusion. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 9 – 11 Suggested Bet – FEELS HOT WIN Quaddie (R5 – R8) 2,5,6,111,2,3,5,1047,8,9,11Market Market
