RACE 1

FRIAR THE GUN won a C2 1600 at Esperance three back and since then has run second in a C2 2000 to Red With Ted and then ran into subsequent winners Uncompromised and Floppy. Looks the best form in the race and she looks hard to beat in the opener. FLOAT OUR BOAT is 6 weeks between runs fresh over a mile. He would be hard to run down if they allow him to cross and lead cheaply. SAFFIANO is accepted on Thursday at Narrogin and might be on the quick back-up. URBAN WARRIOR next best.

RACE 2

DYNAMITE BAY was rattling home at Albany last Sunday behind Russian Sniper. This time last year he went to a 56+ 1000 at Pingrup and won by 3L when well supported late in betting. Looking to repeat the dose a 12 months later. CRYSTAL VAIN is first-up and no doubt Aaron Pateman would have targeted this meeting as the start point for a number of his gallopers. Looks the logical danger. GRECE LIGHTNING is first-up and gets a soft run from the inside. PURE GEM next best.

RACE 3

MAKE MINE SUPER ran third three back in a maiden handicap at Narrogin behind One Punch. Beaten big margins since but that’s not the worst form. He did run second to Ruler Rocket in a maiden down the straight at Pinjarra one day. Keep safe. PERT REMARKS has raced through the entire Esperance season and now Josh Brown has another throw at the stumps in a Pingrup Maiden. He’s a jump and run type that should be suited to this style of racing. ALTOMEGA had been supported at odds in a few runs last preparation. Every chance from gate 1. DRAGONFLIES is a long time maiden who has had many homes. Deserves to win one.

RACE 4

MASTER BUDDHA would have resumed first-up at Mingenew and was actually supported in betting prior to that meeting being abandoned. Good sign for a horse who can produce first-up and importantly did win at Pingrup in 2023 by 1.2L when backed from $10 into $4 in the last 20 minutes of betting. Big watch. ROCKING THE MERC is part of the high strike rate stable of Kevin Mahoney. Should jump and put himself into a spot. ORTUM KRISP is better than what she produced first-up. MINOR DETAIL put in his best run of the prep last start.

RACE 5

ODDONEOUT won the Kojonup Cup / Pingrup Cup double in 2023 and see no reason why 12 months later she won’t be hard to hold out again. Finished second to Hoolahoops over 1940 before dropping back to a mile and finishing second in a high speed Ladies Bracelet on Bluff Knoll Day at Albany. Right mare, right time. CASTILLO DEL LAGO brings real intrigue. First start for Aaron Pateman, rolls straight to the top and will get them chasing from a long way out. Big respect. ROCKSTAR STATUS has won three from four since joining Kevin Mahoney. She’s another big player. ABBOU tries hard.

RACE 6 

MANTELLI is accepted to race at Narrogin on Thursday and either scratches and saves for this or will be on a very quick back-up. Either way it looks a great race for a horse who has finished third to Eevalina and Budgerigar (Esperance Sprint winner), third to Art of Sabrage and Imperialise and then third to subsequent winners Boots Like Bruce and Ultimate Command (both race Saturday at Ascot). Should be too slick for these. LADY TORNADO joins Gordon Keay and she’s a legitimate threat from barrier 1 if she’s ready to go first-up. SALCHINO went well in the NW last season. FIRE ART an improver.
