Scott Embry’s Saturday Newman Preview Posted on August 21, 2025August 21, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CHOIXWAY won a 58+ 1200 three back and then ran second in the Derby Sprint before heading to the Broome Sprint when beating home stablemate and key rival Bin Shalaa by 3L. Looks a great race for him. BIN SHALAA won a pair of 58+ races at Broome to start her season and then has been battling away in the 70+ open class ever since. She’s stretched at 1300m so wouldn’t read too much into her two. OREGON HIKER bolted in at Carnarvon at his first run on dirt but hasn’t fired since. CLOSE TALKER is yet to find her feet. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – CHOIXWAY WIN RACE 2 SANSANEE finally broke through at Broome on Cup Day in the maiden when parking up on speed and pulling clear for a dominant 1.5L win. The previous run beat home subsequent winner Oscar Winner at Port Hedland and three back ran into a flying Gold Spy at Carnarvon. All form is actually good. PRIVATE SAPLING was $12 into $3 when winning at Broome three starts ago. If money comes – take note. HARD TO TOP has tried hard all season but is still a maiden. PACIFIC LADY could lead with no weight which is a big plus. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 4 – 5 Suggested Bet – SANSANEE WIN RACE 3 PUDDIN N PIE broke maiden status at Port Hedland two starts ago and the horses who ran second and third have both since won. Went to a C2 1400 at Broome and was gone after two strides. They were burning along and she couldn’t keep up. This is far easier. SHOULDER PATCH has raced below his best with bars on his last two. They come off, he drops back sharply in grade and Kyra Yuill sticks even with 62kg – big green flags. RULESQUE has been thereabouts all season in Broome. WHAT SHOUT may retire a maiden (sad face emoji). Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – PUDDIN N PIE WIN RACE 4 SCHNOOTS was a 31 start maiden to begin this campaign and has now won an 1100m maiden, a C2 1435 and a 56+ 1400. Went around an easing favourite last weekend at Broome on Cup Day and was never really in the hunt. On the quick back-up and drawn to nearly kick through and lead? Can bounce back. REQUISITION is an 11 year old but he’s knocking on the door for another win and should get every chance. HEEZA BEAU brings the Port Hedland form to Newman. IMPERIALIZE isn’t loving dirt racing but is classy compared to most of these. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – SCHNOOTS WIN RACE 5 BIG CITIES loves the back-up. He’s won 2 races and placed 6 times when backing up off <10 days and he ran a strong second backing up from Ladies Day into Cup Day and will now back up into Newman Cup Day. Brett Pope has been unstoppable recently and this looks a great race for the old boy. MAGNABURMA ran second to Striking Fella in a Cable Beach Caravan Park Cup. Big beaten margins last two but can lead this. UNI QUEEN can sustain a run and this is about her sweet spot in terms of distance. ALBERT is going along quite well. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – BIG CITIES WIN RACE 6 KING MAHUTA is looking to complete the Broome Cup – Newman Cup double and REGINALD is looking to complete the Port Hedland Cup – Newman Cup double. They look the two but it’s very hard to go past KING MAHUTA after what he produced last week, parking three deep the trip in the Cup and powering away from them late. Rises 6kg to 60 but he was super impressive. REGINALD rolls to the top and has a noted front running rider engaged. Gets 2.5kg to try and beat him like he did at Hedland. ACERMETRIC continues to run big races at 11 years of age. CANDLELIGHT SHERIF drops 10kg on the back-up! Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – KING MAHUTA WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,3 1,2,3 1,3 1,2 Market Market
