Scott Embry’s Saturday Newman Preview Posted on August 29, 2024August 29, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BOUTIQUE SESSION is still a maiden but is trying hard. Beat home Topaz last start and actually meets her 1.5kg better for beating her home. Straight to the top and try to hold on? TOPAZ finished second to Trisuem in a 58+ 1300 and then backed up off 4 days and finished third in a maiden on Cup Day behind Shinboner and Boutique Session. Has to turn the tables. AMINKII is a 4x winner taking on two maidens. Can definitely bounce back. HAWK has shades on and you only need to forgive last start at Broome and he nearly wins. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – BOUTIQUE SESSION WIN RACE 2 CHAVORIO isn’t in the same form as she was in 2023, however, this time last year she went 20 days into the meeting at Newman and won a 56+ 1300m by 2L with 58kg. 12 months on and she’s in the same grade, with less weight and doesn’t need to improve that much to win another. ZEEWIJK beat her home fair and square on 6 July at Marble Bar. He should be nearly crossing here too. AL MAGICO drops right back in grade (and distance) from what he’s been contesting recently. SABINO next best. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – CHAVORIO WIN RACE 3 SHOOTING KONTIKI lead and won a C1 1200 at Port Hedland three starts ago and then has been unable to find the fence since. Last time out he finished third behind Gunnerside (races at Kununurra) and Just For Marcus (winner on Broome Cup Day). Back out in distance and hopefully can work his way to the top. BIN SHALAA continues to whack away into minor money. She’s ready to win one. DE LOVELY LAD is quick early but possibly suspect late at 1300? TORPEDOMAN isn’t handling the dirt. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – SHOOTING KONTIKI WIN RACE 4 VIKING FOREVER won a maiden at Port Hedland back in June and hasn’t raced at the same level since, however, Bob Bell puts the blinkers back on, puts Simone Altieri on and finds a race where he can lead. That combination is all very positive for his winning chances here. COMMANDO MISS is an honest and consistent campaigner who has raced in the best company of any of these recently. GINGER CHARM gave cheek at Port Hedland last start before fading late. SHE HATES ME continues to be quite popular in betting. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 5 – 6 Suggested Bet – VIKING FOREVER WIN RACE 5 WAKAN TANKA has won three races this season in the NW: a 58+ 1300 at Broome, a 70+ 1300 at Broome and a 68+ 1300 at Port Hedland where he beat the subsequent Broome Sprint winner Espirito and subsequent plunge winner Amelia’s Belief. Last seen in the Broome Sprint where he missed away and was never in the race. This is right up his alley. OUR KIWI PRINCESS raced well below her best last start when going under at $1.50. She’s better than that. SIOUX CITY should lead these and from there gives plenty. WAR WARRIOR has tapered off late in the season. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – WAKAN TANKA WIN RACE 6 HEZAZEB ran sixth in the 2023 Broome Cup and then backed up off 7 days to win the Mt Newman Cup with 60kg. It’s rinse and repeat in 2024 as he again heads to the Cup on the quick spin. Forgive, forget and follow the grey. ACERMETRIC ran second the Broome Cup and put in his best run of the season on the dirt. He is surely the reason that Lisa Staples is in town and he’s hard to beat if he can reproduce. BUTTERLEA LAD ran well in the Cable Beach Caravan Park Cup three back at Broome. YANKEE LIMA finds the top early. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – HEZAZEB WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,3 2,3,5 1,4,5 1,2,3 Market Market
