Scott Embry’s Saturday Kununurra Preview Posted on August 29, 2024August 29, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 THROW AT DA STUMPS and KIKUYU both won last week at the opening meeting at Kununurra. There was plenty of money around for THROW AT DA STUMPS when he won that race and in 2023 he backed up off 7 days and won this track/distance/grade with 59.5kg under Paul Denton. Looks a near identical set up in 2024. KIKUYU is a previous 7 day winner and looks the big danger. ROSE OF DENMARK also won but only in a lowly 48+. ROCAPOZZENE next best. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – THROW AT DA STUMPS WIN RACE 2 PRINCESS PANCAKES and THE STIFMEISTER raced each other last Saturday and there was only three quarters of a length between them. 7 days later there’s a 1kg weight pull in favour of PRINCESS PANCAKES and she’s drawn inside her main danger. Thinking she can turn the tables. THE STIFMEISTER was strong over the last 100m to pick up and get the job done. BLACK ZOUS ran second to Kikuyu so keep an eye on him in Race 1 as a form reference. BARANI can lead them. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – PRINCESS PANCAKES WIN RACE 3 IM A DREAMER finished second to Dip Me Lid and beat home rival Playin’ Hardball last week. He was strong in late betting which is a good indicator and Aaron Sweeney sticks with him. The entire field is on the 7 day back-up and not convinced the horses rising sharply in trip will overly appreciate it. Looks a great race for him. PLAYIN’ HARDBALL was 1.5L behind IM A DREAMER last week and actually meets him 2kg worse at the weights. DEMBE is a bit of a query at 1600. HONG KONG FIGHTER next best. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – IM A DREAMER WIN RACE 4 GUNNERSIDE brings the Broome form to Kununurra and is the only horse in the race who didn’t race last weekend. He was too sharp for subsequent Broome winner Just For Marcus and he should have no troubles leading in this line up. This looks an easier race and he should be very hard to run down. ROMERO finished second last week behind Rose Of Denmark and finished off okay. STORY OF STELLA was disappointing after meeting with plenty of support at the shorts in the same race. FLASH FIORENTE next best. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – GUNNERSIDE WIN RACE 5 DISCO DONUT like stablemate Gunnerside in the previous is the only horse in this race who isn’t on the 7 day spin. His last start was luckless at Broome when he was posted wide throughout. Never gave it away and his prior form is easily strong enough to take this out. Just needs to step cleanly. MISS BLACK DIAMOND is through the Throw At Da Stumps race which is on show in Race 1. She looks the danger and can lead them. HELLIVIT gave plenty of cheek behind Kikuyu (race 1) and Black Zous (race 2). PRINCE RAGNAR next best. Numbers: 2 – 4 – 5 – 1 Suggested Bet – DISCO DONUT WIN RACE 6 PUSHOVER continues the Kelvin Moore / Kristo Sardelic theme of the middle part of the program. She’s transferred across from Tom Pike and has won her last two at Broome (C1 1300 & C2 1435). This is no harder than those two races and after the claim she’s only rising 1kg on her last start victory. Can win again. JUST FOR MARCUS is another who raced (and won) on Cup Day at Broome. He’s quick, he’s tough and he’s in form. Big respect. THE GIRLS BOY was a big win last week getting through late. EZELOVE looked home in that same race. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 6 – 3 Suggested Bet – PUSHOVER WIN RACE 7 BOOM BOOM SWEET won the 2023 Kununurra Cup for Paul Denton on the 7 day back-up, carrying 60kg and by over 1L. Don’t see any reason why he won’t be hard to beat in the 2024 edition off the same preparation/set up. MR MT WALKER found the front last week and was too strong for Boom Boom Sweet, Corden and A Big Chance. The time figure out of that race was very poor, they’ve stopped the clock 11L slower than average so he’s been gifted the race in front. Surely more pressure Cup Day. RAFFALI is rising 700m. Big unknown. DIP ME LID ran third in the Cup last year. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – BOOM BOOM SWEET WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1 1,2,3,4,5 1,2 1,3 Market Market
