Scott Embry’s Saturday Kalgoorlie Preview Posted on October 1, 2020October 4, 2020 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 STAADEN and MAGIC WILL REIGN clash on Thursday’s Hannans Handicap meeting and then 48 hours later meet again in a 60+ 1MW Graduation. Throw in Cuban Twist and Street Fair and it makes for an intriguing little race. Clearly monitor the results of Thursday’s clash and the potential re-handicap weight conditions but will side with STAADEN who is progressive, lightly raced and relatively early in the preparation. Can sit right over the speed and take running down. MAGIC WILL REIGN is the way we tipped on Thursday and no reason he can’t win either (or both). CUBAN TWIST is 8 weeks between runs but she was a revelation when last in work. TOM ALMIGHTY has always thrived off a back-up and Peter Hall jumps back on. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – STAADEN WIN RACE 2 FROSTY HEART has always shown staying ability, dating back to the 2018 Aquinita Stakes when he ran third to Come Play With Me. Is starting to show his best as a 6-year-old and while his last two wins have been in lesser company, they have been strong and progressive. He should either lead this race or take up the box seat run and prove hard to run down. BOLLINGER BOY stepped up to a staying trip last start and was simply run off his feet. That race was run 8L faster than average and has already produced Amerissa, Treat Yo Self and Without Reason for a top 3 finish at the midweeks. Strong form. STAIRWAYTOTHEMOON and PINK AND PURPLE have both been desperately waiting for these 2100s to emerge. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 5 – 4 Suggested Bet – FROSTY HEART WIN RACE 3 BOSNIPP has clearly had some issues behind the scenes. Nominated accepted and scratched four times (9/10/19, 22/3/20, 11/4/20 and 12/9/20) but clearly also has a level of ability. Punters will continue to come back to the Lark Hill trial of February 24th when she lead them over 950 and ran Cliffs of Comfort into the ground. Winkers on, first-up, no trial, worth seeing what the market does. ISEERED ISEERED has only had a 400m jump out but it was alongside talented Simon Miller juvenile Nuhad. Another one where the market will tell a tale. Brings back memories of the Ziebell plunge of traditional annual race round 2019. MUDS TOO HARD was well thought of when resuming at Kalgoorlie 7 weeks ago but didn’t get the best of luck. BRAVE DREAM is a big query back in trip. Numbers: 6 – 8 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – BOSNIPP WIN RACE 4 SOME SORT didn’t come up last preparation. Had two runs in 72+ and 66+ company at Ascot and didn’t look comfortable. First-up was an alarming drifter and after kicking through to lead was gone turning for home and then never got warm second-up at 1200m. Immediately tipped out and resumes here off the back of a more characteristic trial. Stalks Mervyn and has 5kg on him. MERVYN is no stranger to weight, loves racing fresh and will be on a jump and run mission. Iconic local twitter tipster Gemma’s Son (Relph) will be front and centre drinking pints and spruiking #Merv. SHERPA LASS gets a good run midfield and flashes late. NIGHT VOYAGE always a chance in this grade. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – SOME SORT WIN RACE 5 BEETHOVEN looked a different horse last start. Was his first outing after a full preparation with MR Peter Fernie and the Cambana Lodge polish was evident. This is a stable who just thrive on acquiring tried horses and turning them into stars: Pym’s Royale (10 wins), Mervyn (8 wins), Moschard (7 wins), Regal Counsel (5 wins) and Manhattan Money (5 wins), just to name a few. They’ve now got themselves a Perth Stakes winner (beating Jericho Missile) and he can really go through the grades now. MR GENOA and INDIAN CHANT are actually other examples of tried horses who are in this race and look live chances to test Beethoven. UNBREAKABLE couldn’t have done any more last start. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – BEETHOVEN WIN RACE 6 BOGART never saw daylight first-up and went to the line under a hold. Steps straight to 1600m and that looks very suitable. Senior rider goes on and he looks to have come back bigger and better as a 4-year-old. Should be able to hold up one out and two back midfield from the draw and be put into the race from the 600. SLICED BREAD could be on the quick back up out of the Hannans Thursday and if he does start in this race it is a nice assignment for him. RECAPITULATE will roll to the top and give them something to run down. PARADISE SQUARE is a query at a mile but going along reasonably well. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – BOGART WIN RACE 7 STARALIGN had to do some work early to get across from a horrible drawn last start in what turned out to be a 12/10 from Kyra Yuill. He looked like he was in trouble at the 150 but really dug deep late to win. When you consider he was a month between runs last start he should be very hard to beat here drawn the inside gate with only 1kg more than he carried to victory. NATIVE CHIMES has the blinkers reattached after a flat performance last start. Prior to that was heavily supported when winning back to back races off a freshen up. FIERY WATER was rated to perfection by McNaught last start and fell in. This is much tougher. LEADING MAN could be on the 2-day back-up and dropping 3kg. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – STARALIGN WIN RACE 8 DIVINE SHADOW ran second to Friar Fox in the Boulder Cup and gets a 2kg weight swing on her for a 1L margin. From the ideal drawn Turner can again have him in a winnable position and he is turning into a quality stayer. Gets in on the minimum and gets a wonderful chance to secure a feature victory. FRIAR FOX was an enormous run in the Coolgardie Cup but lost some trust with her performance in the first 400m. Regained all that lost trust last start with a huge Boulder Cup victory and she’ll take a stack of beating. IHYSHYMN didn’t get the right run last start. He looks much better suited in this map and expect him to put in a big one. GLORYLAND drops 7kg from a herculean effort in the Carnarvon Cup and back in 2018 was beaten on the line after leading them for 2290m. Numbers: 6 – 4 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – DIVINE SHADOW WIN RACE 9 MANHATTAN MONEY had her colours lowered by Beethoven last start but was lumping 61kg in the breeze outside a hot tempo. Drops 2kg here while she again faces a tough ask from the map, she is in career best form and has won from on speed and off speed this season. Versatile mare who can be ridden to conditions. SPECIAL CHOICE ran well when resuming at an unsuitable 1000m and ended up in an unwinnable part of the track. Looks extremely well placed in this. PASTRY resumes and ABSOLUTE on the 2-day back-up can figure, but both look a class behind the top two. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – MANHATTAN MONEY WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,3,7 1,4 1,2,4,6,8,9 1,3 Market Market
