Scott Embry’s Saturday Carnarvon Preview Posted on May 29, 2025May 29, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DIRTY CHAI has turned a corner since heading to Jacquelyn Scott’s yard. The two runs for her new trainer have produced a 7.25L win at Dongara and a 2.5L win at Geraldton and both have been run well above average (12L faster & 3.2L faster respectively). Puts her in a good spot for her Carnarvon debut. MOORUMBINE was huge in defeat at the opening meeting when three deep the trip under 60kg. Always a big threat at this level. HUMAN NATURE was great Carnarvon horse a few years ago. 916 days since he last raced! EBONYS ACE went well at Geraldton last start. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – DIRTY CHAI WIN RACE 2 DEVILS I held up close handy over 1200m at his first start on the dirt at Carnarvon when beaten by Diamond Tipped. The step to 1400m suits him, the dirt experience will improve him and the fact that Kate Pateman sticks with him is key. Looks a really nice race for him. IMAGE OF PRO has the necessary speed to lead if he’s fit and ready to go. In theory he should be a really nice Dirt Horse and he’s come back down a long way in the ratings system over the last 12 months. SPANISH KAT wants a bit further than 1400 but if he jumps is a chance. WESTERN IMPACT doesn’t love the dirt unfortunately. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – DEVILS I WIN RACE 3 MONTY ZOOMER was out on his feet over the last 100m at the opening meeting and breaking down the sections, understandably so: first 800m run 4.5L faster than average. That’s the way he’ll win races – getting opponents uncomfortable and chasing from a long way out. Rise and repeat. WISE WORDS was fresh without a trial and fought on well over 1000m. She’s a Roebourne winner with 60.5kg at the 1400m so no concerns from me. IRONCLAD BOY didn’t step and then was never a hope in the Southern Scandal race. WHOS YOUR MAMA met with some support before being a late scratching first-up. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – MONTY ZOOMER WIN RACE 4 MYSTERY MINUTE had his first start for new trainer Zach Tyler at the opening meeting and was only gobbled up late by Dream Illusion. He beat home a good number of these in that assignment and they always improve at their second start on the dirt. Makes him the logical selection. CROWN RULER was beaten nearly 15L in that event, however, there was some merit to the run. Blinkers on, 1200m better than 1000m, don’t discount. BOLTCO JACK has his first start for new trainer Kevin Mahoney who can produce them fresh. REWOOD RANSOM needs to lead to be a chance. Numbers: 8 – 6 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – MYSTERY MINUTE WIN RACE 5 SOUTHERN SCANDAL will get crunched in betting. Fingers crossed there’s half a price on opening because from what he produced at his first start on the dirt – he’ll be very hard to catch. He stopped the clock 12L faster than 56+ average. That’s the kind of figure that sees dirt horses win 4/5 in a row. DRAGONFLIES won back to back races at Carnarvon last season and won the trial on Opening Day. He might be a 10 year old but he hasn’t done that much racing and the runs he’s put in on the dirt have been career best. DREAM ILLUSION broke his maiden impressively. FIRST CONTACT next best. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – SOUTHERN SCANDAL WIN RACE 6 AND THEN WHAT didn’t really look a winning chance until the last 100m when really knuckling down and extending powerfully late. He has to concede 3kg to key rival General Knowledge and he’ll sit midfield and wide on the track but his two runs at Carnarvon have produced two impressive victories. GENERAL KNOWLEDGE not only gets 3kg but has the dirt run under his belt. TALKING HEADS can burrow through underneath and hold a spot. THE COOLAKIN KING was well below his best at the opening meeting. Drops weight and can bounce back. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – AND THEN WHAT WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,3,4,6 3,6,8 2 1,4 Market Market
