Scott Embry’s Saturday Broome Preview Posted on May 21, 2026May 21, 2026 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 FINADO would be a fitting first winner for the Broome season: leader, Sean & Jake Casey, Bonnie Palise – we’ve seen this movie before. First-up this preparation was returning off a 629-day layoff when third to Cinque Stelle and Oscars No Grouch before finishing second to Dancewithme (now a C2 winner at Kal) before sitting parked wide throughout behind Joyoh and subsequent winners Free To fly and Jolson Al. Was sharp in the recent 930m trial (which contained Muzzas Gift, Beyond The Wall and Sempre) and is drawn inside the other speedsters to find the fence. BEYOND THE WALL wasn’t ridden for pure speed in that trial but did drop out noticeably late in the race. Interesting to see whether they try to pull the trigger on race day. MUZZAS GIFT trialled better than him and is drawn to get the right run. OLE GRANDE may want a touch further but should be a nice Broome horse. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 11 – 6 Suggested Bet – FINADO WIN RACE 2 LOST GRAVITY should measure up here. He’s a 66+ winner on the grass at Belmont Park and he has far more gate speed than most realise. When you go to the dirt you use all the tactical speed you have and this is a winnable assignment at his first start in Broome. BORDER FORCE is on the lower end of his distance range but has trialled up well for his return and just needs to stay out of trouble early to be a big player. GIFT OF THE HEART should be a nice Broome horse anywhere from 1100 through to 1800m with his natural front running prowess. Loves to get out in front and stride and that will mean he’s in position A from start to finish. CAPRICORN MAN simply must jump. He had two runs in Broome last year and didn’t step and then didn’t handle the kickback. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – LOST GRAVITY WIN RACE 3 THE TOP BAR had three runs in Broome last season and was awkwardly away and over-raced in all of them. Same story in his recent trial, ended up three deep the trip and was eased out late, but looked to travel alright. Tongue tie on, very open and evenly graded C2 and if they could work their way to the top early (led a 1200 at Belmont as a 3 year old and breezed in a 1000 at Northam) then he could pinch this. RULESQUE is the proven dirt commodity winning a maiden here last year and a 48+ at Newman. Returns without the trial which is interesting. ACES TO WIN would prefer if this was 1400 so he could be ridden forward. POWER TO RULE was ridden for speed at York and it proved a success. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – THE TOP BAR WIN RACE 4 SPICE IS RIGHT should be in for another nice season. Led and won a C2 1300, led and won a C2 1435 and then 4 days later was beaten in the sprint as a $2.90 favourite after he was bumped early and forced to cover additional ground. He’ll lead these on his ear and from there he’s the one to beat. Great use of the 3kg claim. BIG SHOTS resumed first-up at 1100m in a 58+ at Broome last year and split Universal Playboy and Close Talker. Runs to that level and he’s the danger. LOVA SESSION was less than 3.5L off Cheryls Shout, Rainline and Ton of Grunt at Northam last start and that trio all race at Belmont Park on the same day. Yet to be proven on the dirt but drawn wide can help. KINGS CALL was great early in the Broome season last year. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 7 Suggested Bet – SPICE IS RIGHT WIN RACE 5 SEEYOUATTHESESSION hasn’t won a race since February 2024 – and that’s a big concern – but in the period since he has finished third in 2x C3, and 3x 0MWLY races. His recent trial was excellent, he can hold a position close handy just behind the leaders and the Sean & Jake Casey team are always hard to beat, especially on Opening Day. SCENIC WINGS was simply too quick for them at Narrogin last start. If they ride her in the exact same manner on the dirt at Broome she’ll be in front for a long way. MAKE YOUR POINT ran second to Border Control in the Open Sprint last year on Ladies Day. Must jump from gate 1 but classy for this grade. COONDLE is a watch at his first start for new trainer Sue Olive. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – SEEYOUATTHESESSION WIN RACE 6 NOW YOU SEE ME should be the perfect Broome sprinter. He led and won his maiden at Northam by over 4.5L and now heading to Broome he drops half a kilo into a 58+ 1000 where he should be able to lead them up and that’s where the vast majority of winners come from. Straight to the front and for many a punter this will be the anchor for the day. MAJESTUOSO PHOENIX has his first start in WA for Darryn Pateman and fresh last campaign he was less than 2L off the winner in a 64+ 1100 at Hawksbury. More than measure up for this. CITY OF SIN won back to back 1100m races at Broome last season and handles the surface. BIN SHALAA is the class mare but 62.5kg first-up is an ask. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 6 – 1 Suggested Bet – NOW YOU SEE ME WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 2,3,6,7 1,3,5,7 2,3,4,7 7 Market Market
