Scott Embry’s Saturday Broome Preview Posted on June 12, 2025June 12, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 CAMPFIRE JACK won first-up over 1600m in a C1 at Pinjarra. Didn’t fire a shot second-up or third-up but is now on the fresh side, back in distance, with fitness and lobbing into a very thin C2 1600. Makes the most sense? MR HOLLYWOOD is a 36 start maiden who has now had 9 starts at Broome for 5 minors but was the only horse to make any ground last week behind Kings Call and so (wildy) that makes him a danger. CANDLELIGHT SHERIF is first-up, no trial, first time on dirt, 61kg and likely settles last. Few negatives! CHEDDAR BOB can lead and thus improves. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – CAMPFIRE JACK WIN RACE 2 FAST JOHN has now had two runs for Peter Bamford on the dirt at Broome and has finished second to Kia Ora Koe (since won a C1) and to Schnoots in a race last weekend where they stopped the clock 5L faster than maiden average. The field is no deeper than last week so he really looks to get his chance. RULESQUE was scratched from that maiden last week and now comes into it 3 weeks between runs. Just needs to reproduce any of his trials. WHAT SHOUT has been here before and must jump to be any chance. HARD TO TOP found the line well last week. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 8 Suggested Bet – FAST JOHN WIN RACE 3 CRYSTAL VAIN won by over 1L at the opening meeting and then last weekend couldn’t sustain the run out wide under a 4kg claimer. Kate Pateman goes back on and considering his weight carrying efforts in Carnarvon last season the 61.5kg doesn’t worry. Can bounce back. ROGUES POINT is 5 from 9 at Broome and the ghostly grey has a cult following who will no doubt be out in force to see the champ return. Can definitely win. RED REBEL is getting closer and closer and gets a 1kg weight swing on last Saturday’s winner ROEY CLAM to try and turn the tables. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – CRYSTAL VAIN WIN RACE 4 UNIVERSAL PLAYBOY is first-up, no trial on the dirt. Big unknown, however, Anthony Barton has one of the best strike rates in the State and he has the speed to lead them here. If Simone Altieri finds the top and stays out of trouble he should be hard to beat in a Broome C2. ON THE CHARGE is ready to win. Second behind Plato Or Plomo, second to Kia Ora Koe and now finds a race where he can come out running and look to get across. COMMISSIONS will be improved for last weekend’s outing. LADY CABERNET a watch for the new yard. Numbers: 2 – 9 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – UNIVERSAL PLAYBOY WIN RACE 5 KIA ORA KOE finds another race where he should lead. He won his maiden leading and winning, he won his 50+ (C1) leading and winning and now on the 7 day spin he drops 3.5kg and should cross them again. GUNNERSIDE is the fly in the ointment from a speed perspective. He’s raced once at Broome, led and won before leading them at Kununurra. Interesting to who finds the fence in the first 200m. Likely determines the result. PLATO OR PLOMO was a huge win from last at the opening meeting. Just hard to follow those types. BIN SHALAA won in this grade first-up but 62kg is a massive task. Numbers: 4 – 7 – 3 – 1 Suggested Bet – KIA ORA KOE WIN RACE 6 KINGS CALL has only 53kg after the Bailey Webster claim. Like the move from Jody McLaughlin and think that he can turn the tables on Deal Obtained and Magnaburma from their Opening Meeting encounter. MAGNABURMA held the front last week and that race was over within the first 200m. Like any horse in the region he’ll continue to get better and better with each dirt run but given the barrier draw, it’s a lot harder this weekend. DEAL OBTAINED couldn’t find the front last weekend and that was his chances out the window. Expect he’ll be kicked out hard. SHOULDER PATCH just needed further than 1200 last week. Numbers: 7 – 6 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – KINGS CALL WIN Quaddie (Race 3 – 6) 1,2,4,7 2,9 3,4,7 5,6,7,9 Market Market
