Scott Embry’s Saturday Broome Preview Posted on August 8, 2024August 8, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 LET IT GO RUPERT had his first start in Broome for Cooper Casey when finsihing second behind Rose Of Denmark in a C2 1200 after sitting wide throughout. Brave effort to hold on and now carries the same weight in a maiden. Looks the winner. TOPAZ is quick and expect that Michael Heagney will use that to his advantage and be positive early. BOUTIQUE SESSION held her own at Derby and finished just behind Topaz. CALICO’S GIRL has been battling away all NW season. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 5 – 3 Suggested Bet – LET IT GO RUPERT WIN RACE 2 DARK CITY is the Country Horse of the Year and is undefeated this campaign. No doubt this will be him at his most vulnerable considering he has not raced beyond 1200m since April 2022 when beating beaten almost 8L at Geraldton over 1400, however, Jess Gray will bounce straight on the top and then they’ll all be chasing him from a long way out. APPLE SCHNAPPS is more than capable of sitting midfield and winding up powerfully late. GINGER JONES has put it all together at his last two. FIND YOUR MAN has had a really good season for new trainer Michael Ball. Numbers: 3 – 2 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – DARK CITY WIN RACE 3 RED REBEL has been a popular horse with punters all season. He has had four runs at Broome and finished in the top 2 at each and every one of them. His most recent win was 28 days ago when leading and winning this track/distance/grade. He rises up to 60kg but importantly Jess Gray sticks with him. Another great chance to lead and win. BIN SHALAA finished third behind Disco Donut last start and made a lot of ground which is rare at Broome. ALBERT has shades reattached and has been thereabouts since joining Jim Enright’s team. SIOUX CITY a query at the trip. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – RED REBEL WIN RACE 4 STREET MASCHINO just needs to safely navigate barrier 1 (not easy) to be hard to beat in this. Ran into Hide The Oreos on two separate occasions when finishing in the minor money and then powered away from them late last start and is arguably even better suited over 1600. If he drew wide he’d be a special. Just always cautious about barrier 1. DEAL OBTAINED is through the same race and has shown a few encouraging signs since arriving in WA. MR HOLLYWOOD continues to get back and charge late. CHEDDAR BOB could well roll his way to the top. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – STREET MASCHINO WIN RACE 5 PRIVATE SAPLING had the brilliant Hide The Oreos form and found what looked to be a very winnable race last start. He loomed large on straightening but faded out late to finish third behind Street Maschino and Deal Obtained. They should frank the form in Race 4 and we’ll give him another chance here. KALGAN has had a great season but now is lumped with 61kg coming back in distance. THERMOSPHERE LAD tends to do it tough but will keep grinding. DEMERITS PRIDE has been targeted in betting on occasion. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 8 Suggested Bet – PRIVATE SAPLING WIN RACE 6 HIDE THE OREOS is working his way through the grades brilliantly at the minute. In his last three outings has gone from a C1 1300 to a C2 1600 and then safely into a 58+ 1600 when winning by almost 6L. He steps out to 1800m here but he’s getting better and better into the campaign and the further he races over the further he’s winning by! ROEY CLAM finished 5.9L off him last start in second and yet is probably the danger? YANKEE LIMA is the kind of horse who can kick through to lead and give some cheek. MONEY FOR OLD ROPE is having his 33rd run of the prep. What a ripper. Numbers: 2 – 7 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – HIDE THE OREOS WIN RACE 7 ROGUES POINT was 1200 to 1800 going into the Cable Beach Caravan Park Cup which no doubt scared a few punters off and he went around a remarkable $8.50 in betting for a horse who was unstoppable at stages in Broome in 2023. Rises 1.5kg and draws wide but he’ll march across and is always hard to beat. VEVINSKY will need to jump cleanly but if he does he’s capable of firing across into the firing line too. LET’S SEA was favourite last start and all things considered wasn’t a bad effort at all. BIG BADA BOOM not without a flukers hope. Numbers: 2 – 6 – 8 – 1 Suggested Bet – ROGUES POINT WIN Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 1,3 1,2,3,8 2 2,6,8 Market Market
