Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on July 18, 2019July 22, 2019 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 CRYPTIC WONDER will be all the rage but thinking that KELVIN can make him work for it. KELVIN should find the front from an outside gate and from there on the fresh side he should give cheek. CRYPTIC WONDER is obviously the one to beat an expecting Pike to put on another riding clinic on Saturday. Finished off well and looked to have something more to give but $1.50 for a 2-year-old is playing with fire. THAT’S FUNNY AZ has put together three good runs. NO APOLOGY is another one who is yet to put a hoof wrong. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – KELVIN-CRYPTIC WONDER QUINELLA Race 2 BATTLE STORM steps beyond 1000m for the first time in his career and it always good practice to err on the side of caution when it comes to 1000m horses stepping out over further. He should sit back, wind-up and run over the top of them but this is his hardest test to date. BELTER is a high cruising speed beast who will be in front for a long way. Fresh form is great and he takes catching. IN LOVE WITH PARIS could be forgotten in early markets after running two nice races this preparation. Off 7 days, no weight, keep safe. BEAT THE DEVIL is far better suited at 1200m. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – BATTLE STORM-BELTER QUINELLA Race 3 NIGHT VOYAGE looks perfectly placed to finally break through for another win after a long and sustained string of minor placings. Has had an apprentice engaged on all runs over the last 12 months and now Pike jumps into the saddle on a noted sit and sprint type. Has to be very hard to beat. DON’T FUSS comes from the same race and maps to get a suitable run for a horse who likes doing it tough. JINGTANG was a better run than it reads on paper last start and gets big weight relief. DANNY GEORGE is low flying but not sure he is suited on the fence. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 6 – 7 Suggested Bet – NIGHT VOYAGE WIN Race 4 MYSTERY MISS looks set to make it a string of 3 feature victories. Super impressive in the Belmont Guineas, ran straight past moderate opposition in the Belmont Oaks and now has the Belmont Classic at her mercy. SON OF BACCHUS is the X-Factor runner stepping out over a staying trip for the first time. Love the way he settles in the run when left alone in front and he’ll give cheek. RIVALRY GALORE comes from the Aquinita which was run almost 2 seconds faster than the Belmont Oaks. He will stay all day. DELTA BELLE bolted in a weak maiden but relished the trip. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 3 – 6 Suggested Bet – MYSTERY MISS – SON OF BACCHUS QUINELLA Race 5 ZARATITE could give Pike the first 5 winners on the card. He is a progressive 3 year old who simply needed the extra trip first-up and second-up. Last start he could have won by 5 lengths if he got clear running at the right time. Pike’s favourite spot in staying races is three back the fence and that’s exactly where Zaratite will be. Gets clear running he should win. SPIRITUAL WARRIOR won well in a tougher race last start. Copped 12 points for racing outside his grade but this race is an easier assignment. If it is a true staying test he could be last man standing. DEALING sits on the speed and is honest. SUGAR CAIN is in form but will sorely miss W.Pike. Numbers: 13 – 1 – 8 – 12 Suggested Bet – ZARATITE WIN Race 6 MOET DE VEGA hasn’t been seen in the last month since an impressive trial victory. This race has a deal of top end speed and he should be smoking the pipe leader’s back. Gets the run of the race and looks nicely placed. PEARL TRADE is a very hard (near impossible) horse to catch. But the faster they go the better for her. Saved for one run through traffic she can win this. DAISHIO is knee high to a grasshopper but drawing a gate with no weight is how she will win her races. MAKIND has done nothing wrong this preparation but needs luck from a sticky gate. Numbers: 7 – 8 – 11 – 6 Suggested Bet – MOET DE VEGA EACHWAY Race 7 NEUROLOGICAL looks the winner on paper. First-up effort was big when getting stopped in his tracks at the top of the straight and finishing off hard in a hot form race. He maps to sit one out and one back and Pike jumps aboard who has ridden him to 5 victories. WAR GOD leads and is in form. Looks the testing material. TAXAGANO was a big run last week over 1200m and is better suited at 1400m. Expecting Newman to sit him in the breeze and start attacking at the 600. MIRACLE MAN draws poorly but went well fresh. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 7 – 6 Suggested Bet – NEUROLOGICAL WIN Race 8 Went searching for something at a price in the last on a day where Pike and favourites look like dominating. Came up with RESISTANCE who has been running consistently good races all preparation. This race has a number of clashing form references but she has recorded strong enough figures at her last four runs to be right in the finish here. No weight, three deep with cover. Should go well. NELSON’S FLIGHT is flying but simply can’t draw a gate or find a suitable race speed wise. SPIRIT AND FIRE gets a gun run and won impressively last start albeit in slow time. ASTRONOMITE was nibbled at fresh in a far tougher race than this. Numbers: 13 – 6 – 1 – 2 Suggested Bet – RESISTANCE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,13 3,6,7,8,11 4 1,2,6,8,13 Market Market
