Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on July 4, 2019July 8, 2019 | Posted by Scott Embry Scott Embry’s Preview Race 1 CRYPTIC WONDER trialed like a very nice animal. Little bit green and wayward but the way he accelerated late in the trial suggests he’ll take a stack of beating on debut, on a card where Pike could easily ride 5 or 6. LAVERROD worked hard early on debut to find a position in running. The race was run 3 lengths above benchmark which is great going for juveniles. THAT’S FUNNY AZ ran the fastest final 400 and final 200 splits in that race. NO APOLOGY will need luck from the draw. Numbers: 8 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – CRYPTIC WONDER WIN Race 2 BATTLE STORM faces his acid test, but the small field should suit him. Interesting to see if Pike tries to weave a passage or simply eases out and circles them. Expecting a cracking tempo and he will need to produce a career best figure to win but it’s hard to argue with his progression to date. BELTER and CATAIN STIRLING look like setting the track on fire early in a speed battle. Both are hard to run down on their day. SARACINO has won all three career races with the sting out of the ground and trialed like a star twice in WA. Fresh here, keep an eye on him. Numbers: 5 – 1 – 3 – 2 Suggested Bet – BATTLE STORM WIN Race 3 JINGTANG never got going first-up in an unsuitable race. Can be hard to catch and it has been a while since he showed his best but there is no speed in this 1000m event and Noske can fire him across to sit in the breeze. Worth a roll of the dice. DON’T FUSS has wonderful race form alongside his name and pretty much every race he has contested over the last two months has produced two or more subsequent winners. The biggest concern is a new comer 3kg apprentice drawn inside. NIGHT VOYAGE is a soft track specialist, 1000m specialist, loves Belmont and loves racing fresh. Definite danger. BLACK SABBATH is only a 2-year-old winner but gets his chance here. No speed, could lead. Numbers: 4 – 2 – 1 – 7 Suggested Bet – JINGTANG EACHWAY Race 4 TRUE ATTRACTION is a somewhere between 6 and 7 length superior animal to any rival in this field. He can sit midfield, muscle away from the fence and make them look second rate. Expecting the market to reflect this fact. He’ll be Winx odds. PLAY HARD gave cheek in a strong rating 64+ race last start when leading. RIVALRY GALORE is a maiden who looks like he will stay all day. PAGAN IMAGE is racing well below his early 3-year-old form but if anyone can improve them in a fortnight it’s A. Durrant. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 7 – 2 Suggested Bet – GRAB AN EMU CAN Race 5 MYSTERY MISS had the shades added for the Belmont Guineas which seemed to switch her on and she put in clearly her best performance since winning the Belgravia. The Peters runners only get better with more ground and she should continue the Cerise and White dominance. FORGOTTEN STAR is a very nice filly who continues to run into simply more talented opposition. She’ll likely run another brave placing. PING ME ANOTHER was reported to not handle the soft conditions last start which is a huge concern but should bounce straight to the front and control the race. ONE POINT LADY has hit form at the right time. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – ENJOY THE PIKE SHOW Race 6 FRIAR FOX found trouble at crucial stages last start over a mile and was able to pick herself up and record some of the strongest closing sections on the entire card to win in the shadows. From the gate looks likely to land 1 out and 1 back and from there it is her race to lose. SALON DU CHEVAL has raced below expectations this preparation but drawn the inside should bounce straight to the front. NOIR DE RUE is consistent as they come and can race forward, midfield or rearward depending on how the race plays out. BEG TO DIFFER runs strong late sections and the more residual damp in the track the better for him. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – FRIAR FOX WIN Race 7 STATE ATTORNEY jumped too well for his own good last start in a muddling run race. He got left in the breeze from the 600 and the inside part of the track was absolute quick sand on that day. He positions up one out and one back here and travels like Rock Magic in the run. If he hits the front at the right time he should hold them out. FATHER KNICK put in a ripper first-up when almost nailing Festival Miss on the post. Should get a nice midfield run for the traveling apprentice. ON THE TURPS was good enough fresh to figure here. ROUTE EIGHTY EIGHT is a 1000m horse stepping out to 1200m. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 7 – 9 Suggested Bet – STATE ATTORNEY WIN Race 8 GREAT AGAIN was a strong winner in the wet first-up on a track which retrospectively looks like a Heavy8 on times. Last start took a sit for a visiting apprentice and was unable to reel in War God. Aggressive senior rider engaged here, expect him to lead and kick away. NIKITAS steps up in grade but backs up off 7 days from a particularly strong 70+ event and Pike replaces a claiming apprentice. MIRACLE MAN trialed really well and is suited to sitting leader’s back or three back the fence. WAR GOD is a five time winner for Paul Harvey. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 13 – 2 Suggested Bet – GREAT AGAIN WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1 2,3,4,5 1,8 1,6 Market Market
