Scott Embry’s Saturday Belmont Preview Posted on July 4, 2024July 4, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 NICCIMOTA and WIND AND THE LION both trialled over 1000m at Belmont on 24 June and were equally as impressive, both visually and on the clock. They both look like ready made juveniles who will hit the ground running and it makes for an exciting clash to open the program. JP Taylor Racing call on the services of William Pike in a rare and attention-grabbing booking on Niccimota while Chris Parnham takes jumps aboard Wind And The Lion. Think they’ll dominate this race and going to side up narrowly with NICCIMOTA who is drawn inside and looks to have more early gate speed. DAYTONA PETE and NICKELPLAY can park in behind along the fence in a quality winter 2 year old event. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 4 – 9 Suggested Bet – NICCIMOTA WIN RACE 2 RUSSIAN SNIPER is having his 19th run a preparation dating back to 26 August 2023 – remarkable campaign and he continues to go well. Stepped out to 1400m for the first time in his life last start and was only 1L off Californication late in the piece. Drops back in distance, drawn to get a gun run close handy and is thriving under William Pike. PEARLY NUGGET was a strong last start C3 winner who maps to get a similar run in a race with plenty of speed (Capricorn Man/The Great Hoya/Ima Single Gal). Can go on with it now. SNAZZLER was eye catching in the same race from a mile off them. PROBITY is a wet tracker but should still run well in this grade. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – RUSSIAN SNIPER WIN RACE 3 ANTIQUE MISS and KISSES FROM KELLY were both really impressive last week in their respective races. ANTIQUE MISS was three deep the trip without any cover at any stage and now gets Pike on the quick back-up, while KISSES FROM KELLY successfully took the step from a C3 into a 60+ Graduation to record back to back victories. With a genuine tempo to follow behind Filthy Habits and Falcon Trader thinking that KISSES FROM KELLY will get another gun run and prove hard to hold out. ANTIQUE MISS gives the indication she’ll stay and has a turn of foot. STRIKE NOW is acing with great consistency. FALCON TRADER is an unknown at the distance but parks up outside Filthy Habits. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 4 – 2 Suggested Bet – KISSES FROM KELLY WIN RACE 4 DEAMBER is a really honest and consistent mare. Always question the Westspeed Platinum form but she returned in a 66+ when finishing second to Fleuro Neuro and now drops back into a 60+ Graduation and is drawn to get a lovely run forward of midfield with cover. This race has some depth to it but she knows how to find the line and she maps to get the run she needs. SIBERIAN SIREN is only a 3 year old 0MWLY victor but she’s trialled like she’ll be going through the grades this preparation. Looks a versatile filly with plenty of upside. MOCHA DREAM continues to attack the line with gusto. Big effort last start in the wrong part of the track at Northam. STARRING KNIGHT was scratched last weekend and actually finds a more suitable race as a result. Numbers: 3 – 7 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – DEAMBER WIN RACE 5 LUVNWAR and PETROUCHKA ran the Quinella in the Belmont Guineas and most will expect they finish 1 – 2 in the Belmont Oaks a fortnight later. They meet at level weights and there was a 1.4L margin between them last start, however, it’s hard to ignore the way that Petrouchka attacked the line from a mile off them. Her L200 split was brilliant and she looks like she’ll eat up the extra ground. Going to go with her to turn the tables at 2000m. LUVNWAR is the proven commodity and at Set Weights she’ll be awfully hard to beat. There’s no speed in this whatsoever and early she might find herself in front by default. Interesting to see how they ride her. ANTIQUE QUEEN ran into a progressive Kisses From Kelly last start. CRUISE TO RIO next best. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 6 – 4 Suggested Bet – PETROUCHKA WIN Same Race Multi – Luvnwar (Top 2) + Petrouchka (Top 2) Using the Same Race Multi feature to turn this into a fixed odds Quinella bet with Luvnwar and Petrouchka likely to dominate the market and the expectations of punters in this year’s Belmont Oaks. They finished first and second in the Belmont Guineas and none of the additions to this race have anywhere near the same form as them. Banking on Same Race Multi to pay more than Quinella on the Tote. RACE 6 STYLISH LORD had a set of blinkers added in place of visors last start by Russell Stewart and it certainly made a difference. They rolled along in that race and he was strong to the line under 60kg giving the impression that he would get over further. Can park midfield with cover here and has always looked like a horse who would measure up at this level in time. This is his chance. COOL MEMORY is a deserving favourite off what he’s done so far. Third behind Luvnwar and Petrouchka will likely look even better after the Belmont Oaks and he’ll stay out of trouble at the front of the field. WEERAECHOUX got to the line well in the Belmont Guineas from a long way off. MANZOR MAGIC was gifted the race at Northam (first 1000m run 9L slower than C1 average). Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – STYLISH LORD WIN RACE 7 BEST MOOD beat Generosity in a 60+ Graduation over 1300m before dropping back in distance and striking a wet track last start when finishing last (albeit only beaten 2.2L) behind undefeated filly Twain’s Angel, and more importantly finished only a head behind Fluro Neuro who he now meets 1.5kg better at the weights. Think he’s better suited back out to 1400m and in a race without much speed he can roll forward into a position. FLURO NEURO is not an easy horse to catch but as he showed last start he’s more than capable on his day. WAR GEM covered plenty of additional ground in that same race and was entitled to fade out late. TOP OF THE POPS has raced in higher grade than this for the last 18 months and wasn’t disgraced behind Triple Jay/Yonga Lass/Too Dardy/Duchess Of Gossip last start. Numbers: 10 – 1 – 6 – 5 Suggested Bet – BEST MOOD WIN RACE 8 GINNIVAN and KING’S HONOUR both clashed over 1000m on 1 June and KING’S HONOUR came out victorious. He meets Ginnivan 1.5kg better for beating him home that day and is drawn inside him. They’re both jump and run types and both look to have legitimate claims against the older horses. CITY ANGEL had excuses last start (1200m, wrong part of track, lameness) and now finds a race with a tonne of speed where she can track up in behind with only 54kg and a senior rider. Don’t discount. STORMCHASER was incredible first-up at 1000m last preparation at Bunbury. He’ll need to be sharp from three back the fence to win this but he’s got a big L600. Numbers: 13 – 12 – 10 – 6 Suggested Bet – KING’S HONOUR EACHWAY RACE 9 OUR ROCKY BAY has returned in great order and looks to have found a very winnable race off the 7-day spin. At his last two outings he has had to breeze and has finished second to Objectify and then fourth behind Romming Danger, Prospector’s Pick and Sky Talker beating home Objectify. Finally finds a race where he can lead and goes around eachway. Great set up for him. WONDER WEAPON had blinkers attached last start and powered through the line. She’s been promising to do that all campaign and with a confidence boost she can win again. PRO LATTE is enjoying life with Donna Riordan and will go round a big price for a mare who is 2/3 this time in. SENSESSIONAL looks to be every bit as good as the stablemate yet will go round triple the price. Numbers: 5 – 8 – 3 – 12 Suggested Bet – OUR ROCKY BAY EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,2 1,10 5,6,10,11,12,13 3,5,8,11,12 Market Market
