Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on April 29, 2021May 3, 2021 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 ACROMANTULA and VADETTE DE STAR go head to head again in another intriguing 1000m scamper. ACROMANTULA must concede her 2kg for just under a length’s victory but he should also roll to the top while she will drop out to settle at the rear. Siding with ACROMANTULA as you know that he’ll be afforded every chance and takes luck of out the equation with his on speed racing pattern. VADETTE DE STAR was charging home last start. Again likely to settle rearward as there’s no position for her in the map. QUEEN BROWN split Clairvoyance and Gemma’s Son at 1000m last preparation. Has a big weight but is classy. MISS LIVINIA blew them to pieces down the straight fresh. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – ACROMANTULA WIN RACE 2 FATALE FEMME drops out of the Autumn juvenile features and most recently from a hot Karrakatta Plate. The trifecta from the Sires Produce all came from the Karrakatta Plate and the most recent Saturday 2 year old victor Flying Missile also came from that race. Clearly the best race form and finally drawn a gate. RUTHELESS TYCOON looks the part. Scratched from Wednesday to save for this and there is no reason why he won’t be crossing to the lead and takes real running down. GORGEOUS GOSSIP is drawn underneath him and hasn’t drawn a gate this prep. QUEEN’S GIFT has hit the line well at two runs in. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – FATALE FEMME WIN RACE 3 SASSY TRADER is stiff to still be a C1. Four starts ago was held up until the race was over in a 60+ Graduation, first-up did all the work when attacked for the lead before popping to the breeze and going down fighting in the final stride. Looks well placed against the older horses in a very evenly graded affair. Not a huge amount of exposed speed in this event, Jordan Turner is a sniff of finding the top, if not breezing. HOME IN FIVE showed an abundance of natural ability when last in work. Gets the gun run from the draw. HOLY GHOST is bursting to win a race. Eye catching at every single run this campaign. BILLY RAY does a lot wrong, over races, won’t go straight. Thin quote for a maiden who has gone under three times at odds on. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – SASSY TRADER WIN RACE 4 BLACK SHADOW has really hit form in the last month. Surprise winner at odds two starts ago when out gunning Big Bada Boom in a fast run 1800m event and then showed it was no fluke last start when landing in a prominent position, looming the winner and only nosed out late. Historically once he finds form he holds it really well and from the draw, in a race with no speed, Jason Brown can have him stalking likely leader Treat Yo Self. MOSSERATTI gets a pull in the weights from their recent encounter and there was only a length or so between them. Doesn’t win out of turn but this looks a lovely race for him. TREAT YO SELF is the kind of mare who can go through the grades heading into winter. Starting to settle better. VINTAGE STOCK always a winning chance in this grade. Numbers: 4 – 5 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – BLACK SHADOW WIN RACE 5 OFF WEGO is a progressive three year old who looks extremely well placed here. Comes through the Autumn 3 year old features: Challenge Stakes (1500), Lex Piper Stakes (1600), JC Roberts (1800) and Melvista Stakes (2200) before most recently running a solid third behind Ya Dreamin’ and Black Shadow in a 66+. Drops in grade, only rises half a kilo and is drawn to get a lovely midfield run. UNCLE LINO is no slouch when he can find the front. Expecting Shelby Bowtell to cross them and allow him to stride from the 800. BERET gets back in her races and will concede the pair a head start. Going super but will be chasing a fair way from home. KORANIS maps to get a sweet run. Numbers: 8 – 1 – 2 – 6 Suggested Bet – OFF WEGO WIN RACE 6 WATCH ME DANCE looks to have found the most suitable race of the preparation. From the draw Shaun McGruddy will have her close handy to the speed and may even find himself stalking the leaders (Majinika & Scoreline). From there she controls the race and will have all rivals behind her. Backs up off 7 days from a solid effort in the Sheila Gwynne when finishing third to Cryptic Love and Tycoon Storm. Looks a great set up for her. NOT TO BE MIST is the weight horse on the quick back-up. Drawn to sit three back the fence and is capable of flashing late. FRIARESQUE is also particularly well weighted after the claim for Laqdar Ramoly, just a hard horse to catch. MAJINIKA was back to his best last start. Numbers: 3 – 8 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – WATCH ME DANCE WIN RACE 7 RIVER BEAU and MISS CONTEKI clash horns again as two of the most in form sprinters in WA at the minute. Both going through the grades rapidly and both look destined for Black Type racing in the near future. RIVER BEAU should land in the box seat tracking the speed of This’ll Testya, Gemma’s Son and Glasgow Girl. He’ll likely have Miss Conteki on his back and she did beat him in the shadows two starts ago but at the price differential it’s hard to knock him. MISS CONTEKI has won six races from only seven starts. Repeatedly reeling off the fastest sections of the meeting and again looks like only traffic and bad luck will hold her out. GEMMA’S SON was enormous last start sitting three deep the trip no cover. CAPTAIN KINK is the weight horse but where on earth does he get from the draw? Numbers: 2 – 5 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – RIVER BEAU WIN RACE 8 CITY CIRCLE seems to grow a leg off the 7 day back-up. Her most recent quick back up runs have produced a 66+ fourth placing behind River Beau and Mood Swings, as well as a strong victory in this grade. She is a versatile mare who can race on speed and off speed. Trusting in Chris Parnham to make the right decisions from the draw and her to produce another peak off the back-up. IMAGE KEEPER is three wins from four starts and his only defeat was in a train wreck at Mt Barker on debut. Highly progressive and looks like getting a smother from the draw. FIERY WATER gets a weight swing on City Circle and still has improvement in him. LACEVINSKY hasn’t put a foot wrong for the new stable and gets the gun run. Numbers: 6 – 3 – 9 – 10 Suggested Bet – CITY CIRCLE EACHWAY RACE 9 DIABLERIE has remarkably been up for over 12 months but it is hard to argue with his recent form. Sectionally run of the race behind Glasgow Girl in a blistering 1200m two starts ago and then again from an impossible draw raced wide throughout when pulling late ground off Miss Conteki, Moschard and Nerodio when the race was all over in a 72+ most recently. Drawn a gate, goes round eachway and is absolutely flying. KELVIN carried 59kg in this grade first-up last preparation when running third to Em Tee Aye and Dom to Shoot. If he reproduces that rating, he’ll take serious catching. STATE ATTORNEY needs a soft draw and a genuine tempo. Gets at least one of those conditions. WILD FUSION is never far away from them. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 2 – 8 Suggested Bet – DIABLERIE EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 3 1,2,5 3,4,6,9,10 2,5,6,8,12 Market Market The Black Hearts are WA’s team in The Racing League – the world’s first horse racing league.
