Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on April 17, 2025April 18, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 BLACK ORA will need to take another step forward and she’ll need to overcome being 1200m back to 1000m second-up, however, she looks a well and truly above average filly with a bright future. The biggest test for her could be staying in touch early as the speedy Niccimota burns along in front. If she’s within 3 – 4L watch for her to steam home late. FLAGSHIP travels boldly in his races and in theory the faster they go the better it will be for him. DAYTONA PETE is a nice horse but trialled only fair? KEEP ITA MYSTERY beat the older horses last start but has weight and a poor map. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 2 – 1 Suggested Bet – BLACK ORA WIN RACE 2 DELTASON has been eye-catching at his two runs to date and was really well supported last week in the Perth Stakes before being an unfortunate late scratching behind the barriers. It’s an all or nothing scenario for him: must finish Top 2 to be able to back-up into the $500,000 feature next Saturday. STATEWIDE was scratched from Wednesday at Pinjarra to save for this. His task is easier than Deltason as a Top 4 finish here will sneak him into #15/16 in the Karrakatta Plate pecking order. PERFECT SISTER look capable from her trial. BLOW ME KISSES is quick. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 8 – 5 Suggested Bet – DELTASON WIN RACE 3 PROSPECTOR’S PICK has always had a huge spruik around him but ultimately to this point he has only been able to win a Pinjarra maiden and a Belmont C3, and on both occasions he has led and, on both occasions, it has been 1200m. Won’t lead Tawkin’ Jibberish so will have to show some level of versatility to win this. SIX SHOOTER trialled like a horse who was in for a big preparation. FIRST BEACH similarly impressed at trials and is lightly raced and drawn soft. TAWKIN’ JIBBERISH is really quick and is a great opportunity for Elisa Whittington. Numbers: 5 – 6 – 7 – 3 Suggested Bet – PROSPECTOR’S PICK WIN RACE 4 LET’S TALK was backed as if unbeatable at his return to racing and duly saluted. There’s been plenty of options for him on the programming in recent weeks so reading between the lines it looks like Team Taylor have saved him for this First Heat of the Autumn Series. Will he corner at Ascot? Could be the difference between winning and losing. BONDI PLUNGE was solid in the NARS Series and is better with cover (and a senior). HYMNS OF ELADDAIR might just be wanting 1400m but does have shades added. OCEAN GODDESS is a nice mare. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 1 – 9 Suggested Bet – LET’S TALK WIN RACE 5 WESTERN POWER resumed in a 66+ 1400m and was backed from $12 into $5.50 throughout betting. Didn’t get the greatest flow into the race and yet still finished within 1.5L of Angel Undercover and Our Rocky Bay. Far better suited second-up in a 60+ Graduation. SPEAK TO ME won first-up over 1200m last prep and trialled really well recently. SOSO LUCKY has finished second at her last five outings. Can blinkers and Lucy Fiore be the difference? MASTERLY is up sharply in grade but looks mapped to lead and dictate. Numbers: 3 – 1 – 2 – 5 Suggested Bet – WESTERN POWER WIN RACE 6 MACHINE GUN GRACIE has been the dominant force in the fillies ranks over the last month. She won the Natasha Stakes by 3.4L, she won the WA Oaks by 3.2L and she can either roll along at her own leisurely tempo, or as she showed last start, she can let the speed go and then amble up to them. She’s a ripper and she’ll go round $1.60/$1.70 in the WATC Derby as she looks to join a list that includes Tuscan Queen, Delicacy and Dreamaway as fillies to do the Oaks-Derby double. SAIL SESSION has been a level above the boys, but most (all?) agree that the girls are better than the boys. FUNCHAL made a race of the WA Oaks. MAXWHOOSTAPIN ate up the ground in the Melvista. Numbers: 4 – 1 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – MACHINE GUN GRACIE WIN Same Race Multi – Machine Gun Gracie (Win) + Sail Session (Top 3) + Funchal (Top 3) Machine Gun Gracie has won the Natasha Stakes and the WA Oaks in a league of her own. Expect she’ll beat the boys (and the girls again). Sail Session has been the best of the boys through the JC Roberts and the Melvista Stakes and Funchal finished closest to Machine Gun Gracie in the WA Oaks. Locking in that pair to finish (in either order) in second and third behind the star filly. RACE 7 STYLISH LORD finished a narrow third behind Axeman’s Jazz and Memory Parade last time he raced in this grade/distance. He’s been in consistent form throughout the campaign and for the first time in 5 runs he has a senior rider back aboard. Even race with plenty of chances. OUR ROCKY BAY and BLAZING EMERALD can both settle in the first pairing and can control the race between the pair of them. Both tough 4-year-olds to get past. ABOVE THE PEG is a 7-day back-up only commodity. Last 5x he has backed-up: 2 wins, 3 minors. Loves it. Numbers: 5 – 3 – 7 – 1 Suggested Bet – STYLISH LORD EACHWAY RACE 8 ALL PLAY really came of age last preparation and is a sharp 1000m sprinter. There was originally word he was going to go to the Rock Magic Stakes and if that was in their planning it shows how high of an opinion they have of him. He’ll sit close handy behind a really hot tempo and that profile suits him down to the ground. TOROPA won three on the bounce last prep before finishing second to Rope Them In, second to Almighty Class (on two occasions) and then had excuses in the Jungle Mist behind Baby Paris and now Roma Cup winner The Boss Lady. First start for SJ Miller, first-up no trial. Big respect. GINNIVAN crosses from out wide. SINFUL LIVING is now the winner of $558,165. Not bad for a $10,000 yearling! Numbers: 3 – 7 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – ALL PLAY WIN RACE 9 JAZ SESSION is going from strength to strength. Westspeed Platinum races rarely hold up as form references so taking a leap of faith that the mare can step up to 66+ company but it’s hard to argue with how she’s been winning, both visually and to the clock (last start 7L faster than average). Trust. BLUE ROCKET got a confidence boosting win at Geraldton and maps to get a lovely stalking run in a high speed, high pressure race. NOBELLITY again has no weight on her back and will be in front for a long way. CANNY ROCK beat home Nobellity last time they met. Numbers: 7 – 4 – 10 – 5 Suggested Bet – JAZ SESSION WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 4 1,3,4,5,7,8 3,7 1,4,5,7,10 Market Market
