Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on January 23, 2025January 23, 2025 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 DA GENERALS SON caused a stir at the trials. The original time published was ludicrous and had a few punters going DIY on the hand timing (fraught with danger) and a protest was lodged. It has since been amended to a far slower time, but still it was a visually sharp trial (in blinkers) and he wears them on debut from an ideal draw. Looks to wind up rather than a typical jump and run type. GIRLS ON FIRE sat parked three deep the trip on debut and fought on bravely. HOLD MY WINE went huge on debut and then had excuses second-up. Didn’t trial in blinkers. BUNDABERG was sharpened up with a nice 400m jump out after his 950m trial. Numbers: 5 – 9 – 1 – 3 Suggested Bet – DA GENERALS SON EACHWAY RACE 2 ALASKAN should be breaking through here. This race has a really long tail and there doesn’t look to be that many legitimate winning chances outside of the favourite. The issue will be the 60kg he has to carry, but his recent form lines alongside emerging stayer Rocking Society and most recently in a 72+ 1800 simply look levels above. MYSTICAL MAN continues to hit the line from a mile back. Smaller field helps. LONG GENES has been a hit and miss type since arriving in WA. Better last weekend. BIG SWOOP rolls to the top. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 4 – 8 Suggested Bet – ALASKAN WIN RACE 3 SUCCESS PLAY trialled nicely leading into his return and then first-up in a more than handy 66+ 1200 he was held up at crucial stages and not fully tested. Thought the effort had merit and second-up he’s drawn to enjoy a soft, stalking role leader’s back in an open and even Westspeed. RED TORI was definitely better last start with the ear muffs off and this looks very winnable for her. EL PATRON still switches off when he hits the front and waits for them, but a win’s a win. MISS VASARI won well last start but did lob 1×1 and enjoy every favour. Numbers: 6 – 7 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – SUCCESS PLAY EACHWAY RACE 4 HANG GLIDER looks the map horse here. There’s speed on speed (Lexington City, Rocking Gem and Miss Flirtacious – in order of barrier) and that should allow Shaun McGruddy to kick him out and park him right behind that battle for the fence. He’s a great fresh horse and his Joker’s Grin form from last prep is easily good enough to win this. VALSASSINA also fits that profile and has returned in career best form. SILVER EYE is just a ripper – he’s never far from them and trialled super. ROCKING GEM will need to burn to get across. Numbers: 8 – 5 – 2 – 9 Suggested Bet – HANG GLIDER EACHWAY RACE 5 PRECIOUS GOD has only beaten very moderate opposition so far. This is a huge step up in grade for her, but she’s doing everything right and she’s a mare who looks like she’ll measure up against these Saturday quality 3 year olds. HORCRUX was a different with the blinkers. He found the top, he travelled boldly and when Jordy Turner gave him his head he bounded clear to win by an easing 2.3L margin. Rises to 1400m and 59kg. MEAN MACHINE was really good in the same race and is suited by the step up in trip. TIMELESS GEM was a follow fresh. Numbers: 7 – 1 – 3 – 4 Suggested Bet – PRECIOUS GOD EACHWAY RACE 6 PROPHET AND POWER is flying. He won three on the bounce, C3 1650, 60+ 1800, 64+ 1600 and then last start was beaten on the post by Sowar in a 72+ 1800. He absorbed plenty of pressure and kept fighting back bravely in the concluding stages. Provided he isn’t crossed this looks a very winnable race for him. CATCH THESE HANDS loves racing from leader’s back and if he lobs behind Prophet And Power that’s a wonderful map for him. BOLD HERO is lightly raced and quite progressive. OCEANZARA has found form big time. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 7 – 10 Suggested Bet – PROPHET AND POWER WIN RACE 7 SENSESSIONAL put the writing on the wall at his return to racing. He stepped out first-up over 1400m and got a long way back before charging to the line along the fence. Second-up he should be fitter and he should be able to use his barrier this time to have a few behind him in running. Showed he’s not just a winter Belmont horse. YARRALEA won that race and had a bit in hand late. She’s been going super all prep. PROFIT POCKET is electric on her day and may well find herself in front here? SOWAR got a deserving win on the board last start. Numbers: 2 – 5 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – SENSESSIONAL WIN RACE 8 TWAIN’S ANGEL was the ‘be on me next start’ run in the Miss Andretti so happy to follow her into the Scenic Blast Stakes on the minimum. She’s again drawn barrier 1 which probably isn’t exactly ideal for Madi Derrick, but the mare has returned to somewhere near her very best and she’s ready to win one. They’ll roll along and that should allow her some room to move. MAN CRUSH is just a good horse. He gives 110% and loves high speed, high pressure racing. Think he’ll really appreciate Norich being in the race. NORICH can burn his way to the top. PREMIUM CHOICE held his own at his first Black Type outing. Numbers: 9 – 2 – 7 – 5 Suggested Bet – TWAIN’S ANGEL WIN Same Race Multi – Twain’s Angel (Top 3) + Man Crush (Top 3) Twain’s Angel was a bit stiff in the Miss Andretti and then really charged to the line once clear so happy to follow her up and suggest she’s the one to beat in the Scenic Blast while Man Crush just thrives on high pressure racing and should get exactly that here with a few speedy types engaged. Both to finish in the money. RACE 9 MEMORY PARADE finally gets out to 1400m. Trial – super, first-up run over an unsuitable 1000m – excellent, second-up run over 1200m – luckless and now off 7 days she gets out to 1400m. She’s going well, she’s drawn a nice barrier, she’s out to her preferred distance and some of her main dangers are poorly drawn and may have to concede her a head start. Ready. FLYING SOUTH is a really nice type. He’ll measure up in town. SPARKLE CORNER can burn these off and find the fence which would be a huge plus for him. OUR MATE ARCHIE takes time to wind up. Numbers: 11 – 7 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – MEMORY PARADE WIN Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 1,4,7 2,5,8 2,7,9 2,3,5,7,9,11 Market Market
