Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on April 11, 2024April 11, 2024 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SHOW THE WAY gets a 2kg weight swing on BATTLE COMMANDER to try and turn the tables from their last start encounter over 1200m. From a better barrier, with the weight swing and the added fitness benefit from the first-up outing thinking that he’s a big chance here of running down Battle Commander late and recording his first career win. BATTLE COMMANDER is rock hard fit and a lovely jump and run 2 year old. Hard to knock. GOLD FLAKES backs up out of the Gimcrack and wasn’t disgraced behind Karrakatta chances Siren Assault, Golden Kathleen and Earthstorm. AUBREY’S STAR has shown zip in her two 400m jump out wins. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 9 – 5 Suggested Bet – SHOW THE WAY WIN RACE 2 NORICH was forced out three deep last start when Ultimate Command pushed out from leader’s back once crossed by Just So Sassy. Gave Holly Watson a tough time in the concluding stages when laying inwards noticeably but didn’t give it away after doing it tough. Back out to 1200m here and can either lead or breeze and continues to run honest races at eachway prices. DEETEA is the class runner. First time into a Westspeed Platinum and held her own in a 66+ behind Harmika, Stormy Tawny and Duchess Of Gossip last prep. TENACIOUS REWARD was a big winner at Pinjarra and the second horse came out to win impressively on Wednesday. DIAMOND ROCKS is racing well. Numbers: 6 – 1 – 3 – 10 Suggested Bet – NORICH EACHWAY RACE 3 BABY PARIS looks to have found a brilliant starting point for her preparation. She won the Joey this time last year (WFA 1200) and towards the end of last preparation she won the Jungle Dawn (Listed Fillies & Mares SWP) with 58.5kg. Blinkers are added for the first time in her career and from barrier 1 she should bounce out and put herself right over the speed. Class mare and flies fresh. REAL DANGER has had a long preparation but if she can reproduce her runs in the Scenic Blast or Cyril Flower when winning she’ll be hard to hold out. REAR ADMIRAL gets a soft run and is the third winning chance. MISS ESPRIT next. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 4 – 6 Suggested Bet – BABY PARIS WIN RACE 4 FLOWER IN THE WIND is going from strength to strength this campaign. She’s looking to win her third straight race after two equally impressive recent wins. Last weekend she carried 60kg, sustained a run after the leader pulled the trigger at the 800 and was strong through the line. She’s on the 7-day back-up, she drops 2kg and she maps to get another gun run. Hard to beat. LET’SDEAL hasn’t had much go his way since the Perth Cup. This is a nice bit of placement by Steve Wolfe and he’s more than capable of sustaining a run in a race of this nature. SAVORSKI is on the 3 day back-up from Wednesday and drops down perfectly to the minimum. SHE’S PERFECTION was unlucky in the WA Oaks but was 100-1 and the others around her were stopping. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 8 – 9 Suggested Bet – FLOWER IN THE WIND WIN RACE 5 INFLUENCING and STYLISH LORD settled 1-2 in a 3 year old 1400 on 23 March in a sit and sprint and INFLUENCING got away from them to win his fourth straight race this preparation. He only rises half a kilo on that and looks to strike a similar set-up. There could be a bit more speed in this with Solar System and Cool Memory but he’ll go around eachway and he’s had a brilliant preparation. STYLISH LOD meets him at level weights from that encounter because he’s since dropped back to the mid-weekers and put on a clinic. He can turn the tables without surprising. ON PATROL and SAPPHIRE STREET will get back and be making their runs together. Both are capable types. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 9 – 2 Suggested Bet – INFLUENCING EACHWAY RACE 6 ICE PICK NICK has had three runs in WA for a 72+ victory, a 66+ minor placing (beaten a head in a three-way photo) and a 72+ fourth (beaten a head in a four-way photo). That last start form refence looks excellent – Laced Up Heels, Saloon Bar, Almighty Class, Rear Admiral. That’s as good as you get in a 72+ and he looks ready to tackle 1400m. Can either lead or sit on Gift Of The Heart. Nice race for him. DESENNEA returned with his customary top 3 finish. He’s a genuine animal with plenty of upside and improvement still to come. Maps a treat and looms as a big danger. OLY’S CHOICE has had no luck all prep – enter Pike. GIFT OF THE HEART next best. Numbers: 2 – 3 – 9 – 8 Suggested Bet – ICE PICK NICK WIN RACE 7 BUCKETS RIDGE winning the Melvista Stakes was just another example of how good Grant & Alana Williams’ training operation is. Blinkers went on, Pike went on and he went to a whole new level winning by over 1.5L in a brilliant WATC Derby trial. Maps to get a very similar run three deep with cover and was strong late. If he reproduces, he’s hard to beat. A LOT OF GOOD MEN dismissed any queries on his staying prowess in the Melvista when recording the fastest overall L1200, 1000, 800, 600, 400 & 200 of the race. ALASKAN tried to push out underneath Buckets Ridge and had to ride a bump losing a bit of balance. OWN THE QUEEN has been the standout filly all campaign. She’s a gun. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 6 – 14 Suggested Bet – BUCKET’S RIDGE WIN Same Race Multi – Bucket’s Ridge (Top 4) + Own The Queen (Top 4) Buckets Ridge jumped out of the ground in the Melvista Stakes (2200) when blinkers and Pike went on. He won by over 1.5L and was still full of running late powering to and through the line. Looks like the 2400m will suit and gets a similar run to last start. Own The Queen has been the standout filly all preparation and is 6 starts for 5 wins. Both to finish Top 4 in a wide open WATC Derby. RACE 8 FAST FLICKER was heavily supported last start in an identical race (Grad 1400) when held up for the entire length of the home straight. She looked to be bolting underneath Paul Harvey and if you judge her off her previous run you’d have to think if she got a crack at them she would have made her presence felt rather than finishing 14th beaten 4.2L. Forgive and forget. We go again. PLAYING RIO was also badly blocked in that same event. He’s drawn to get a better run here and is improving with racing. HEMLOCK STONE was brilliant once he got clear. He’s going to work his way through the grades. PRINCESS IN RED another who never saw daylight last start but from barrier 1 will need luck. Numbers: 4 – 9 – 7 – 13 Suggested Bet – FAST FLICKER WIN RACE 9 SONOFTHEBOSS and ULTIMATE COMMAND are likely to be the first two horses round the corner here and both look hard to get past. SONOFTHEBOSS is just a different animal when he leads against the fence so expect they’ll be looking to cross which means that Ultimate Command can sit just off him and take the trail into the home straight. If they can control the race between them then they can kick hard into the corner and look to pinch it. TRIPLE JAY was a good return to racing. Nothing took him into the race and he finished off as well as any of them. KARALEE ROCKS has the bar plates going on which is a red flag. Numbers: 7 – 10 – 1 – 4 Suggested Bet – ULTIMATE COMMAND EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 4 – 7) 2,3,9 2,5,6,14 4,7,9,10,13 1,4,7,10 Market Market
