Scott Embry’s Saturday Ascot Preview Posted on January 6, 2022January 6, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 SNIPPENOVA showed brilliant gate speed in a recent 950m trial with blinkers on. In the home straight was a real handful for Kyra Yuill when under pressure and laid in noticeably back to the fence. Think the stablemate who beat her home Devine Belief is a very nice animal and while there are no blinkers here expecting that she can come across and take up a forward position. Looks green and raw but at double figures going to roll the dice. PIERRA ART and FRANTIC WAR both trialled alongside eachother and there was nothing between them. Both had a bit in reserve and both travelled well throughout. CIAO LUNA comes from one of the stronger 2 year old form reference races so far. Numbers: 10 – 8 – 1 – 6 Suggested Bet – SNIPPENOVA EACHWAY RACE 2 BLAZING AWAY gets the conditions he requires. David Harrison mentioned in a post race interview one day that the was best suited to racing in the breeze because he’s scared of other horses and with Sea Waif drawn barrier 1 and Blazing Away drawn in 4 it allows Paul Harvey to come across and dictate from the breeze. Should loom the winner at the top of the straight and be there for a long way. Game effort chasing a hot tempo last start and Trade War franked the form in 60+ Graduation company last weekend. SNIPPY MISS is Snippy Miss. She’ll always be running home strongly late. Her second to Cheval De Vaga reads up well but from the draw she’s unlikely to get the run she needs. SEA WAIF is a consistent and honest mare. 1400 is probably about on her limit. WINSALOT will be tucked away given every possible. Numbers: 1 – 6 – 9 – 4 Suggested Bet – BLAZING AWAY WIN RACE 3 THE VELVET QUEEN was crunched in betting in the $125,000 Westspeed Platinum 3 year old race. Opened $5 and jumped $2.30. Got back in a muddlingly run race and never really looked comfortable. Thought she got to the line particularly well considering the way the race unfolded and she looks ready for 1400m. Always going to need an ounce of luck with her race pattern but she’s capable of winding up into it. UNI QUEEN was no match for her first-up when they met in a maiden. She’s improved at every outing since and should enjoy a lovely run. EXTRA SECRET is a progressive filly and her two runs to date have both been very encouraging. Think she’ll measure up. AWESOME CHATTER was flat last start. Those 4 horse races can be a trick. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 10 – 4 Suggested Bet – THE VELVET QUEEN WIN RACE 4 RIVER BEAU is coming from the Feature Sprint races over the Masters back into a ratings race. He is a 2x 78+ winner in a 72+ which contains a lot of horses racing outside the handicap. He is proven with weight (winner with 60kg and placed with 60kg, as well as finishing 1.5L off Miss Conteki, Nerodio and Gemma’s Son with 61kg) and he finds a race without a great deal of tempo for a 1000m sprint. If Jason Whiting gets him across to park up outside of Agent Jay it looks a great race for him on paper. Eachway forever. ISLAND CHARM is the up and coming mare. Still doing a fair bit wrong and possibly a query coming back to the short course but it’s hard to argue with her last four runs. STRATHMORE ROSE will box seat and only has 52kg of Beaux Edwards to carry. MANTELLI travels but doesn’t have a change of speed. Numbers: 1 – 5 – 8 – 6 Suggested Bet – RIVER BEAU EACHWAY RACE 5 I’M PRETTY put the writing on the wall in the Epona Classic when savaging the line from an impossible position in running. Reunites with William Pike who has ridden her to six of her seven career wins and from the draw she should settle in a far better position in running. If she can reproduce the turn of acceleration from a pair of two closer in a smaller field at 1600 she’ll take real holding out. BRUCE ALMIGHTY is on the 7 day back-up. He has shown as his last two that he’s ready to win. Is versatile and can lead or take a trail. Proven back-up horse too. EM TEE AYE is starting to test the patience of punters. Clint Johnston-Porter is riding better than anyone at the minute and he gets his chance here. Can roll forward to either lead or breeze and his best is good enough. BLINDER didn’t get a crack at them at any stage last week. Numbers: 4 – 3 – 5 – 2 Suggested Bet – I’M PRETTY WIN RACE 6 FAIRY FAST is another horse on the program who has good last start without William Pike and now gets his services again. All four career wins are with the Wizard in the saddle and from the barrier she should enjoy the sweetest of trips. Loomed as the winner last weekend and while there’s always a query on the quality of the form around a horse like Bogart she doesn’t meet anything better here in a weak re-handicapped 58+ Grad. CABLE GUY is in the form of his life and gives Andrew Castle a rare opportunity at kicking home a Saturday metro winner. The way he’s going he’ll be put into the race before the corner and turn it into a test of attrition. ZETORIO is the kind of horse who could settle last and come with a sweeping three deep run in this field. Don’t discount. BENJI’S is doing a fair bit wrong. Lots to learn. Numbers: 5 – 2 – 4 – 7 Suggested Bet – FAIRY FAST WIN RACE 7 COME RIGHT BACK is going to attract a lot of interest in the 66+ Staying race. Only 7 days ago he competed at Group 2 level in the Perth Cup with an apprentice rider and now he backs up, drops sharply in grade to a ratings race and Adam Durrant pulls the trigger with William Pike to ride. From the draw he will likely settle out the back and join the three deep train as it starts to build from the 800. Will be a big effort to win with the weight but he’s got class on his side. BLACK CHIPS is not ‘classy’ but he is seriously tough. Flying at the minute and is a genuine stayer. CASTILLO DEL LAGO is on trial at the trip but the way he gave a kick at 1800m suggests if he can work across into a position, he’ll be a live eachway chance. LADY DUCKWORTH is ready to win. Will need a good steer from the inside but has a turn of foot. Numbers: 1 – 2 – 3 – 11 Suggested Bet – COME RIGHT BACK WIN RACE 8 PROCONSENT and THE SPRUIKER will hold somewhere around 80-85% of this market throughout betting and they’re sure to divide opinion. With The Spruiker drawn somewhat awkwardly in barrier 7 they might be tempted to roll forward and breeze outside Lorentinio. That would leave William Pike and Proconsent sitting midfield waiting for the straight to unleash the powerful turn of foot he is showing at the minute. Drops down to 54.5kg, maps well and could well be on the end of a string of W.Pike winners. Love the way he’s attacking the line. THE SPRUIKER is a winner. He won with authority last start and with Chantorque winning last Saturday it shows just how strong the form around him is. LORENTINIO gets a rare senior rider engagement and should stroll to the top and dictate. LUKE’S GOLD is a marvel. Roy Rogers has him back to his best as a 9 year old. Fresh last preparation he split Kissonallforcheeks and Kaptain Kaos. Numbers: 7 – 5 – 6 – 2 Suggested Bet – PROCONSENT WIN RACE 9 WEDNESDAY is well worth an eachway ticket in the last. She’s likely to go around somewhere near double figures and her last two efforts have been rippers. Finished only 2L off Miss Vasari, Cristal Dane and Mercanto two starts ago (meets Cristal Dane 2kg better at the weights) and then finished less than half a length off Queen of Soul in the Epona Classic (65+). Drops in grade, stays on the minimum and if I’m Pretty happens to get the job done earlier in the program her form will look even stronger. JEDI MIND is well placed by Brett Pope back into a 60+ Graduation. Both runs in this campaign have been full of merit and he is dangerous from leader’s back or three back the fence. MATERIAL WITNESS and BURNYA TO SURVIVE both have big weapons late in their races and both will need them from their awkward gates. Numbers: 10 – 4 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – WEDNESDAY EACHWAY Quaddie (Race 6 – 9) 2,5 1,2,3,6,11 2,7 2,4,7,10 Market Market
