Scott Embry’s Friday Mount Barker Preview Posted on November 23, 2022 | Posted by Scott Embry RACE 1 STAY ASTERN didn’t fire a shot first-up and then was steady to and through the line second-up on Melbourne Cup Day. Darren McAuliffe takes her down to a Mt Barker maiden and Clint Johnston-Porter takes the ride. She showed enough in her barrier trials to suggest that she’d be winning a maiden. Drawn to get the run of the race and gets her opportunity. HIDE THE OREOS has run two great races since the Great Southern season kicked off. Looks the danger drawn the inside gate. BONAMICO can come on quickly from the first-up assignment. Ran really well from a long way back. COMPAK went close behind Boozeroo at Kalgoorlie two starts back. Numbers: 8 – 7 – 1 – 5 Suggested Bet – STAY ASTERN WIN RACE 2 ARID was well supported at odds on debut off the back of a solid trial behind Red Can Man and Knot Secret. Kept coming behind talented stablemate Hang Glider and put the writing on the wall for a second-up maiden victory. Tash Faithfull jumps on and she should prove hard to beat. LIBERTY DAME looms as the danger. Trial last Monday was behind dominant first-up winner Megami and she did go round a $7.50 chance on debut in a 2 year old 0MWLY behind One Cool Gal at Belmont. DUN WITH THE BLUES was continually dictated inwards across heels at trials. Don’t dismiss. RIBBING was honest when last in work. Numbers: 8 – 9 – 10 – 1 Suggested Bet – ARID WIN RACE 3 KELLY’S LI ZA LU won a trial over 930m at Lark Hill back in June and went around single figures in a 2 year old 0MWLY on debut. Pulled up with excuses and was immediately spelled. Trialled up behind Universal Playboy leading into her first-up run and that should be handy enough trial form for a Mt Barker maiden. OUR BONNY GOSSIP is quick and if you find the front at Barker you can be hard to run down. PENNED is still learning what it’s all about but is quickly closing in on a maiden win. MAGNABURMA hasn’t quite lived up to his debut run. Numbers: 9 – 8 – 4 – 3 Suggested Bet – KELLY’S LI ZA LU WIN RACE 4 YANGTZE RAPIDS gets one more go. First-up at Geraldton he didn’t see daylight until the last 50m when the race was all over and flashed at them hard. Then he went to Ascot and got a long way back and never came into the race. From barrier 1 Brandon Louis can settle him closer to the speed and with even luck he looks a live chance in this. SUN CHACEN returned without a trial at Northam when finishing third behind Keytrade and subseuquent winner Fiorucci Mama. Looks like good form for this. COUNT THE SESSIONS rolls along and makes his own luck. ROLLED GOLD might need further. Numbers: 4 – 6 – 2 – 7 Suggested Bet – YANGTZE RAPIDS WIN RACE 5 REBEL KNIGHT has been caught in between grades for a number of seasons but he’s a more than handy type on his day and these c70+ races look tailor made for him. He can carry weight, he can park and ride the speed and the fact that CJP rides him over Garage Days says a lot. Was only run down in his trial by the talented Burnya To Survive a week ago. LACEVINSKY will appreciate a bit of weight relief with Luke Campbell taking 2kg off his back. WILD FUSION returned in excellent order at Albany fresh. ATHLONE CASTLE goes well at Barker. Numbers: 2 – 1 – 3 – 7 Suggested Bet – REBEL KNIGHT WIN RACE 6 SHAKE BABY SHAKE has been a model of consistency all preparation and while she has to lump 61kg Tash Faithfull is the leading country (actually overall) rider in the State on a sheer number of winners basis. Sam Faithfull does a great job with a small team and expect Shake Baby Shake to find the front and take running down. CHARCOAL CHAOS got the job done at Geraldton in a maiden and then finished third in a 46+ at York. With the 6kg weight pull on Shake Baby Shake looks the danger. RED ORCA improved with racing last preparation. Keep safe. LITTLE SILVER is still very green. Numbers: 1 – 3 – 2 – 4 Suggested Bet – SHAKE BABY SHAKE WIN RACE 7 SOWAR is rarely seen in the country area, let alone in a c58+. Only five starts ago he finished 4.4L off Buster Bash in a 72+ 1600 at Belmont Park. Since then he has had four 66+ staying races where he has been far from disgraced in any of them. Luke Campbell brings the impost down to 61kg and he’s the class runner of the field. Nice race for him if he can lump the weight. ALMAHER MAN was an all the way winner of a C1 mile at Northam. Racing like he wants further. THE GREAT ONE is a shade of his former self. The drop in grade helps. LOSING TICKET is a Mt Barker specialist. Numbers: 1 – 4 – 3 – 5 Suggested Bet – SOWAR WIN RACE 8 BLUE LINE was a nice 3 year old for Sam Faithfull. Last time he was in this grade was at Albany over 1100m when beaten narrowly by Classic Magnus when tramping wide throughout. Considering that Classic Magnus has won back to back races to start the Great Southern season that looks a great form reference. Is a 60kg winner previously which helps. BACK IN BLUE is drawn wide but can’t be going any better than how she has returned. Can do it at both ends. DARK CITY is always competitive in these kinds of race. FEARLESS GENERAL is dynamite fresh. Numbers: 1 – 11 – 8 – 4 Suggested Bet – BLUE LINE WIN Quaddie (Race 5 – 8) 1,2,3,7 1,2,3,4 1,3,4 1,2,4,8,11 Market Market
